CAELUM LUMARIA HYRULE
Courage
Heroes of Hyrule
TITLE/NICKNAME: [Former]Prince of Hyrule, Lord Hyrule, Cael, "Maria"(he hates it with a passion)
RACE: Hylian
AGE: 24
GENDER: Male
SEXUALITY: Homosexual
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION:
Kindness: Much like his sisters, Caelum is one who exudes sensitivity and kindness towards others, especially towards those in need. He has always served as a rock for others to lean on for as far as he can remember, especially for his siblings. Whenever the townsfolk were in need of a laboring hand, he would be there to assist in whatever lifting they would need (even of he wasn't terribly strong to begin with). Seeking out shelter for the homeless? He would rally some of the townsfolk and build them a home! Cook them a meal? Well... he actually left that up to his sister Kura, as he wasn't terribly great with cooking. The children wished to play? He would play whatever merry games they desired! After all, he'd grown accustomed to it when he was initially restricted to playing with his sisters when he had the time. Though, he wouldn't exactly count the game of "dress-up" as one... that was more of a necessary torture.
Devotion: Caelum has been described as the "knight" of the royal siblings, which is true to a degree. He tries his best to be noble, dignified, and honorable as anyone born into royalty should be. Among the family, as well as the common folk, he is a gentleman first and foremost, as his Father had raised him to be. To treat every woman as though they were of royal blood and required every ounce of respect and attention that would befit a queen. Couple that in with the loyalty of one raised as a Hylian soldier, and you have a Prince who is not only devoted to his family, but his Kingdom as well. It matters not how small the skirmish, or how grand the invasion. Caelum has already sworn his body and soul to Hyrule, and thus, will gladly fight 'til his very last breath in its name. "A knight lives to serve. To protect. To sacrifice. There is no greater calling." as his Father once said.
Loving: Love is possibly the one thing that stands out the most about Caelum. His kind, and loving heart for one and all. While it is true that he takes special care to go above and beyond for his dear sisters, he has also been known to go the extra mile for all of the townsfolk of the Hyrule Castletown, often treating them as though they were his neighbors, best friends, or even siblings from other parents. Everyone was equal in his eyes, and he made sure that they knew of it.
Reserved: Despite his big heart, Caelum has a tendency to hold quiet reservations about his thoughts or emotions, more often than not being negative things about himself. A perfect example being the day of Zelda's "death", where he had fallen into a state of grieving. On the surface, he appeared normal, save for the noticeable softness in his voice, and a seemingly deliberate act of avoiding contact with others. To say that his once open-hearted self has diminished a touch would be an understatement.
Self-Loathing: The death of his parents, and the event of Zelda's "death" has left a large gap in Caelum's heart. Though he will not admit it, a deep-seated hatred has taken a firm hold upon him, weaving in thoughts of his failure to his family and his Kingdom. "I could have been better. I should have been better. If I were, then none of this ever would have happened." Such hatred has been slowly but surely encroaching upon his mental fortitude, at least in terms of taking care of himself. He struggles to remember a basic fact that his Father once taught him - "Sadness leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering." He knows this all too well... and yet, he feels that all he can do is merely embrace it as he carries the facade of what is now "false pride" in his eyes.
Militant: Being raised as a knight, Caelum has proven on multiple occasions that he has a tendency to become rather hot-headed under certain circumstances, and as such, sometimes takes action over reason more-so than he probably should, so much so that it's as though he is purposely seeking out a fight in hopes that something terrible may happen to him and perhaps then it will help him atone for his previous failings. Couple this with his own self-esteem issues as they are, and you're bound to find him in a rather unhealthy mental state altogether.
Naive: Out of the four royal siblings, Caelum is not exactly the brightest. He tends to say and do stupid things on occasion, which oddly enough, ties in with his sometimes childish behavior (though that was usually one of his brighter points). As such, he tends to be somewhat gullible to a degree, believing just about anything if someone spun their words just right. As such, this could very well result into ill tidings if he is not careful.
LIKES:
Traveling: Exploration has always been something he had taken a liking to ever since he was but a child. He thanks most of that to his younger sister Zelda, who had made a habit of sneaking out of the Castle multiple times to be among the common folk. In following her lead, he found that he too yearned to see what lay beyond the castle walls, and grew to love discovering the many wonders the realms had to offer.
Fine Arts The arts of song, dance, and playwrights were a normal part of growing up in the castle, and honestly one that he misses. Often time and again, he finds himself humming tunes that he'd learned to play when he was a child, a nice memory of home before everything panned out the way it did. Though, if you were to ask him about it now, you would receive a very shy response, especially on the topic of singing. "Caelum, all of your sisters are such lovely singers! How about you?" "I-I... erm... I couldn't hold a candle to them! Haha..."
Swordplay: The art of combat was a requirement as the sole Prince of Hyrule, for the role of a King was not only to lead his people, but to defend them as well. As such, his training as a royal knight has naturally included the mastery of the art of the sword. Although, this often comes with the mentality that anyone who challenges him to a one-on-one duel, will surely lose. That being said, he has never once one a duel against his sister Zelda...
Archery: The way of the bow was one he had picked up on the rare instance he had been allowed to travel, back when the three kingdoms weren't on such unfamiliar terms with each other when Caelums' parents were still alive. As such, he had taken a trip to the Land of Holodrum in order to undergo training with something that wasn't a sword, unbeknownst to his Father. It was there that he had learned how to use a bow, the in case he would ever need to defend himself from afar. It's also perfect for shooting down apples, or hunting creatures should he be caught out in the wilds on his own.
Kindred Spirits: The people who fall under this category are typically his Sisters, the citizens of Hyrule, and people who he feels he can get along with with relative ease. Anyone who's alright in his sisters' eyes, are alright by him, and typically vice-versa.
DISLIKES:
"Maria": DON'T CALL HIM THAT!! Only his Sisters are allowed to call him that little pet name, and even then, he still doesn't like it! He'll totally bite your head off!
Ignorancee: Caelum is not one to tolerate close-mindedness and ignorance. He feels that those who will not take the time to listen and try to understand things from another perspective are incomprehensible.
Feeling Worthless: Revisiting his self-esteem issues, Caelum vastly prefers feeling as though he has a purpose in life, especially when it comes to his duties to his sisters and the Kingdom of Hyrule. The mentality of a knight instilled within him prevents him from being able to properly sleep at night if he knows that there was something he could have done to prevent any wrongs from occurring.
MOTIVATIONS:
His Family: One of Caelum's driving wishes is to keep his sisters safe, and to lead the family back to their home in the castle, where they can lead their people to peace.
Bettering Himself: Caelum feels that he isn't at his very best, so he seeks to improve himself physically and mentally. However, in order to do that, he must first be able to move past the death of his parents, as well as the event of Zelda's "death". He must re-ignite his faith in his beloved sister's decisions.
Supporting Zelda: As stated previously, Caelum is struggling with his current feelings toward Zelda after she staged her own death before the masses. To him, she is still the reigning Queen of Hyrule. However, it is more-so a personal matter of faith between siblings at this point.
FEARS:
Failure: The pride of a knight is both a great gift, and a grand curse. While he is a proud knight of Hyrule, the idea of failing to serve and protect holds a heavy weight over his heart. As such, the title is a double-edged sword that holds a bit of weight in the pride that comes with it.
Loneliness: It is not the typical concept of merely spending time alone, but more-so the idea of being left alone by all - abandoned if you will. The idea of the citizens of his Kingdom walking away from him, his Sisters turning their backs, only to cast wary gazes from over their shoulders. Nothing would sting more than to be completely and utterly alone in the world.
Dark Influences: Caelum is in a dark place right now, and is struggling to break free from it. He fears that in his current condition, there is a chance he could fall influence to something truly horrendous - something that could lead to severely negative consequences upon himself… or worse.
End of the Royal Bloodline: The dreadful thought of the Hyrule Royal Family ending haunts Caelum in the back of his mind every day. Such a time had almost conquered him and his sisters once, and still seems to be trying even today. The concept of being the very last of his family, or perhaps the end of it entirely brings on an unfathomable pain...
Preferences: Caelum has never found himself attracted to a woman... ever. However, venturing about in the Castle Town and during his training in Holodrum has shown him that he has found attractions within those of the same sex. His preferences lie in other men in a way that he can't help but admit that he finds the male genus very appealing. He has only ever had a woman confess their supposed love to him once, and as close as they might have thought they were... he simply did not feel the same. As a member of Hyrule royal blood, he is afraid to confess such a thing, as a King should have a Queen by their side. It makes him fear for the future should he ever take place upon the throne. What would his people think of him? What would his sisters think of him? Is he deserving of love from someone of the same gender? Perhaps not...
HISTORY: Prince Caelum Lumaria Hyrule - The eldest of the four siblings of the Hyrule Royal Family. Being the only male among them, save for the previous King, Caelum serves as Queen Zelda's last line of defense, should the Hylian Military ever fall to enemy forces. Ever since he was a child, he has always worked hard at training his mind and body so that should he ever rise to the throne, he would be able to do more than merely sit behind his people whenever evil should rise upon Hylian borders. But perhaps this is a bit too far ahead all of a sudden? Let us rewind the clock a decade or so ago...
Caelum was the first of the four children born into the Hyrule Royal Family, and being a boy, he already had his sacred duties lined out for him, for a prince must grow up into a fine and capable leader. One that can not only lead his family and his people, but also able to defend them, for the King is not merely a monarch. A King is a man of strength as much as he is a man of compassion. So were the words of his Father before the time of his passing with his Mother. The few days of lecture and discipline are the only things he can recollect of his Father.
When his parents were unable to, Caelum often did his best to play the part of the role model of the four, directing his sisters so that they may stay out of trouble and grow to become proper princesses. Of course, that didn’t always work, as Kura and Marin more often than not would merely respond with forcing him to play “dress-up” and participate in their “tea parties”. Oh what fun those days were, despite how embarrassing it was. As for Zelda? Well, he could count a few occasions where he’d gone above and beyond to make sure she would stay out of trouble, even though she actively sought it out. When their Father was still alive, he had such worries for the girl whenever she ventured out into the Castle Town on her own. Caelum would have near heart attacks chasing after her late at night when she snuck outside of the castle. But as much as he did fret, he also enjoyed the thrill of the unknown - the adventure that would come with it. That is until, they actually got caught and were scolded for it. Those particular moments were not very fun at all…
Some years passed, and Caelum found himself with two more younger sisters - Kura, and Marin. It was after the third sister was born that despair would befall the Kingdom of Hyrule. The Queen had died due to unforeseen circumstances, bringing a dark cloud to hover of Hyrule Castle. And as if that were not the worst of it, the King would fall ill and pass only days after, soon tearing a giant rift between the siblings with no one but the Nursemaid to look after them. Zelda being the next in line for the throne as the reincarnation of the Goddess Hylia locked herself in her room to mourn, as did the younger sister Kura. Marin was but a babe at the time, so she could not fully grasp the situation. To her, her only parental figure was the Sheikah Nursemaid who was charged with taking care of them all. As for Caelum, it is possible that he took the blow the hardest since he was the oldest, thus was the one to have spent more time with the late King and Queen. He remembers very vividly how he stood over their coffins, staring at their portraits in shock and dismay. However, it would be his Father's which he laid hands upon, trembling before falling to his knees. Why did they have to go? What were they supposed to do? What was he supposed to do? So many thoughts overwhelming him before he finally let out a cry, one that supposedly echoed from within the castle walls and outward. One that seemed to let all of Hyrule know that it was a time of mourning.
As the years went by, things did not come and go as easily as they had before. Zelda remained locked in her room, as did Kura, the two only ever emerging in order to eat. When Kura had fallen ill shortly after the tragic events, it only seemed as though the tragedies would continue one after the other. Would he soon lose a sister so soon after the loss of his Mother and Father? Caelum's heart simply could not bear such grief so soon! On top of that, his youngest sister Marin had become quiet and reserved, distancing herself from all save for the Nursemaid. The only thing he could do to distract himself from all of the doom and gloom was to continue to train himself in the way of the sword, the bow, and even asking the Nursemaid to teach him the basics of the mystic arts. But even that was not enough to keep him from eventually collapsing in tears, silently screaming up to the Great Three above why they had placed this hell upon him and his family. Needless to say, all hope seemed lost...
However, that hope still lingered deep, deep down inside of him, then finally began to take flight when Zelda finally emerged from her chambers, news of her vision spreading throughout the castle like wildfire. Everything about her seemed to have changed within that instant. The light in her eyes shining with a dignity and purpose, an aura about her that exuded what Caelum could only describe as a divine strength. Not only did Zelda come out of her state of mourning, but Kura and Marin as well, Caelum to follow soon after. They were all still so young, and yet Zelda had saved them by rising up to the occasion. He couldn't possibly have been happier within that instant, and was forever grateful to his beloved sister - to his Queen. It was from that day forward that he pledged an oath to his dear siblings - "I, Caelum Lumaria Hyrule, hereby pledge my life to serve thee forevermore 'til the end of my days." Little did he know that the deadline would come much sooner than he'd anticipated.
Years seemed to fly by faster than Caelum could truly take account for, the royal siblings training with their Nursemaid in their respective choices of combat. Zelda was taught the elegant arts of the rapier and magicks, Kura training on her own, and Marin taking on magicks in hopes of providing a more supportive role out of the four... or so Caelum thought. As for himself, the Nursemaid advised that perhaps he was taking on too much at once. It was one thing to excel at the art of the blade, and the way of the bow. But to try and throw magicks into the mix could prove much more taxing than he would be willing to admit. Nevertheless, he begged and pleaded for her to teach him what he could. He proved it difficult to say no with such willful fire burning in his eyes. It was during this time in their lives that Zelda had announced that she would be throwing a ball in order to honor the coming of the fabled hero of legends - the Hero that would lead Hyrule to salvation against the encroaching darkness, which also served to bring those from all walks of life together at one point, joined by a common fellowship which sewed the seeds of kinship. It seemed as though all was going to go well, that hope could only shine brighter from this day forward. Oh, how wrong he was.
The day that Zelda was to marry Prince Perseus - son of King Galadhion... tragedy struck. Zelda would fall, marriage not consummated, bonds broken, hearts shattered, and doubt and despair cast upon all. Caelum could do naught but watch in horror as one of his worst fears came to fruition. Silence had rendered his voice captive as anger, sorrow, and suffering overtook him, unable to hold back the tears as he wept for his beloved sister - his Queen. She died right in front of him, and there was nothing he could do to stop it. He hadn't felt this weak and powerless since the day his parents had died - the day where Hyrule Castle had fallen silent in mourning - the day where he thought the Kingdom would come to an end then and there. It was happening all over again, and he simply could not bare it.
Days passed after Zelda's "death", and he was to take charge of the front line, taking her soldiers to garrison them alongside the Hero, Link. But what good would this truly accomplish? How can you conquer that which is nigh unconquerable? The inner darkness that lives within all men that walk the Realms. Without his sister, it made him next in line for the throne. But he did not know what to do? Without her Wisdom, he felt he lacked the Courage to lead his people for the best. As if it weren't hard enough, Marin had only seemed to grow even more distant, and perhaps cold towards Caelum. Perhaps she blamed him for their sister's death? And in all honesty, he felt inclined to agree. Upon his return to the Castle, he sat himself outside in the garden alone, staring up into the starless night sky, eyes puffy and darkened from a lack of sleep, and a flood of tears. His world had become dark once again, no light to guide his way. He felt like it was consuming him while he suffered through a burning ache in his heart. It was here that he closed his eyes and he prayed to the Great Three above. Prayed that they would give him the strength to continue to drive forward, to forge ahead during these dark and trying times - the strength to protect the only family he had left.
Consciousness slowly faded from him, drifting off to sleep in the garden where he lay. He heard nothing but the breeze blowing by, and the running water flowing in and out of the small trench. Then, he heard a voice - tender, comforting and warm like that of... his Mother. He awoke, or so he thought, to find his eyes meeting a blindingly golden radiance unlike any other he'd ever seen before. He only seemed to be drifting closer and closer to it, whatever space he was in. As he did, he could see a silhouette, divine and radiant, as though from the Heavens themselves. That voice - a woman's voice called out his name tenderly, reaching out towards him with arms outstretched, and he reaching out in kind. As their hands met gently, the light became too much, and soon, he would wake once more, the dawn having long since risen to greet him. That same golden light was now glowing from the Triforce Shard which hung around his neck. It didn't take much for him to realize that he had acquired a new power - one that was warm and gentle, yet strong. This power was meant for protecting. Something about it ignited a spark of hope within him yet again, something driving him to feel as though all was not lost. There was still work to be done, and every day, the royal family's work was being cut out for them.
The next few years, Caelum would act as the serving monarch, taking position on the throne, yet not accepting the crown. He did not feel that he was truly worthy to wear it. Not just yet. There was a nagging feeling in the back of his mind, and within his heart that told him there was more to everything than what meets the eye. And as such, his intuition was serving him well. A miracle occurred that he thought could only be performed by the Great Three themselves - Zelda had returned to Hyrule, alive and well, and as beautiful as ever. The building elation in his chest could not possibly be described, as he wanted nothing more than to run and hug his beloved sister, whom he'd thought he'd lost forever. But there was no time for celebration. Zelda had returned to reclaim her rightful place on the throne, with the crown on her head. And Caelum was more than happy to grant it back to her.
However, that simply would not be, as the people of Hyrule had caught wind of her return... only to greet her with hatred and scorn. Not only her, but all four royal siblings were met with naught but spite, all being labeled as failures to the crown, to the people... to the Kingdom. Unable to tolerate such deformation of his family's character, he dared to step forward and speak back, only to be stopped by Zelda herself. The now former Queen of Hyrule chose to step down as the people demanded, and she and her siblings would be subject to exile. To be ousted from their own home was not something that Caelum could truly come to terms with, and he still struggles with it today. However, he would rather follow his beloved sisters to the ends of the world for all eternity as opposed to being left behind to wander and rot. So said he when he swore his oath to them.
APPEARANCE
HEIGHT: 5 feet and 8 inches
WEIGHT: 127 lbs.
APPEARANCE DESCRIPTION:
Eyes: The Hyrule Royal Family is well known for having piercing blue eyes. In his case, they are a deep blue, like twin ocean pools glimmering with a supernatural light beneath the pale moon above. They are a rather pleasant compliment to his auburn hair, and while holding a certain tenderness within, they are easily as fierce as they are comforting. A trait that is passed down through the generations of the royal family.
Hair: Being that his mother and father had brown and red hair respectively, it only makes sense that he would inherit a combination of the two - a rich auburn brown, like a combination of the earth, or perhaps even chocolate. And yet, there is a glimmer of fire within those brown locks, surely a hint of his mother in there. The word "tousled" comes to mind when describing his hair, as it sits atop his head neat, yet somehow messy, as though he were still a young boy growing up. He never bothers grooming it, as it always winds up exactly the way it was before the following day. Always.
Clothing: As a member of the royal family should, Caelum possess a variety of clothing suited for nearly every occasion. However, as he is normally on the front lines as a member of Zelda's coalition, he hardly has much time to wear anything casual. Therefore, it comes to no surprise to find him dressed in his war garb - white sleeveless robes that stop no farther than his thighs, arms and legs exposed to the elements, black fatigues clinging to his frame underneath. A pair of leather bracers trimmed with gold rings and emblazoned with the royal family emblem upon the hands serve as light protection against enemy attacks in close combat, matched by a pair of leather caligae for his legs and feet. He does not typically wear any armor because it hinders his movements, thus, he cannot be as swift, or accurate as he would like to otherwise. There are rare instances for when things are calm that he may wear something more casual.
The more common clothing he typically wears is a lavender tunic with a pair of black britches and brown leather boots. Over this, he will sometimes wear a white cloak which surprisingly helps him blend into the scenery fairly well during a particularly sunny day, or during the cold of winter.
Physical Appearance/Features: Far a young man of his age, Caelum's skin is exceptionally fair, without any scarring or blemishes that would mar it otherwise. It is smooth to the touch, with an appearance like ivory when touched by sun or moonlight. He is fairly tall, at least in comparison to his sisters with a small, yet athletic build to him, keeping the posture of that akin to a butler who may have seen more than his fair share of battles. Though despite this, it is debated among many that it's possible he may have inherited some of his mother's genes, due to his feminine face and overall figure. Everyone knows that he is in fact a man, and yet, it has been whispered among common women that he has a figure most "might kill for".
Like most people, there is a uniquely distinct smell about Caelum. For those who would ever get close enough, they would smell an aroma akin to lavender - gentle and comforting, and yet detect something so crisp and clean at the same time. It could be safely described as though it were like lavender petals flowing in the wind. Like his sister Zelda, Caelum is a very cleanly person, often using herbal soaps like she does. Altogether, it is this which gives Caelum a very calming smell that makes one feel as though they can be free of their inhibitions.
Vocal Description: As his looks may suggest, his voice can be described as soft and comforting, perhaps a sort of allure that would make most think of him as a brotherly figure not only to his own siblings, but to all whom he considers a kindred spirit, despite his regal, bold demeanor. While he typically speaks with a sense of intelligence and nobility, as he was raised to do, there are moments where he breaks off from it, often tending to sound like a child still growing into the role of the noble prince he was born into. Many often find it rather adorable, if not funny in its own regard. But unlike his sisters who carry more energy, and are generally more outspoken, Caelum is actually rather quiet and reserved, so his voice is not always heard. As a matter of fact, it sometimes catches people off guard when he does speak.
Like his sisters, Caelum was also brought up with the fine arts, therefore, singing is something he is more than capable of. He simply chooses not to do it... well, at least not with an audience. The last time he sang to a crowd, he overheard someone speaking of how his songs were always so sad and tragic, whereas Zelda, Kura, and Marin were capable of lifting people's spirits. His songs were typically about days long since passed, and how they were effecting the present, or how they may effect the future. Though, it didn't make those rumors any less wrong. Though to be honest, singing is probably the only time he puts any true energy into his voice, save for when he is in the midst of combat.
When he projects, there is an impact of emotion to be heard within his chords, digging deep into people's hearts so that they may feel the emotion behind the lyrics of which he sings. People have rumored at least once or twice that when he sings, music joins him of its own accord, though there are no instruments present. An old woman surmised that perhaps when he is singing, he is freeing a part of his spirit, which then in kind invites the spirits of nature itself to join him in harmony so as to properly reflect the feelings in his song. Some would consider that his voice carries a sense of enchantment to it, though it is also arguable that it can also be haunting. The only other detail to be spoken of would be that he is capable of reaching pitches that most would think a woman only capable of which is either impressive... or strange.
