For decades, the Woods of Winter had been quiet. Solemn and somber as tales of fairy's and spooks gave off it's haunted demeanor, and under Rikel's rule, Galatea suffered heavily. With each passing year her power waned more and more, as travelers became less frequent. Now, his son sat in the throne, and even this accomplishment entered the ears of the Empress.
Finally it was necessary to seek out council with the new King. His council would be good to keep if she intended to obtain more power, potentially leading up to her taking the throne of the Fairy Court. Allies were a much needed step in her plan, and rumor's of the half sheikah king entertained the thought that she could hold dominion over him.
Carried by a silver stag, the empress approached the castle gates, her reigns handed over to one of Asthar's many personnel, where she announced her desired business with the young king. Wearing a dress of black, silvery wings followed suit behind the female of five feet. It must have been an odd sight; not only a fairy, but one of a humanoid frame.
The palace was extraordinary, built of foundations and terraces similar in structure to her own, but a completely different material make up. There were so many colors in comparison to the Woods, and the thought of redecorating her own sanctuary came to mind. Perhaps spending time among the mortals would prove to be more beneficial than she had in mind.
Guards throwing open the tall ornate doors, her arrival was announced, "Presenting... --Empress Galatea of the Winter Woods!"
And annoying concept, her brow twitched in retaliation from the pitched voice of the young squire to her left. He needed to grow a few more years and then hopefully his voice would drop a few octaves. Moving forward, her eyes looked upon the horizon, hoping to be greeted by the son of Rikel.
The paper before him began to flail as the blond haired man held it before his face, his posture lazy as he sat upon his throne with his leg propped up by one of the armrests while his check was prompt up by his wrist while his elbow rested on the other armrest. With his index and thumb finger merely pinching the top of the parchment lightly, the king of Holodrum began to waggle it before his face with an immensely dull expression painted upon his face. Being a king was never a fun and games and the paperwork was definitely no joke. The work needed to be done and Asthar couldn’t put it off anymore, but it was just so hard. He was trying his best, but the need to procrastinate was massively strong and the words just seemed like gibberish every time he stared at it. And so, Asthar could only continue to wiggle the piece of parchment before him, hoping his mind would at the very least wake up and manage to decode the damn thing.
Sitting there for almost a good half an hour with no progress, Asthar would eventually hear footsteps rushing over towards him hastily. Asthar was not in the mood for more work and he could only assume that was the reason the guard was rushing over to him and in response a groan escaped from his lips. “Not now, can’t you see I’m hard at work?” Asthar said lazily still staring at the paper in his hand without even looking at the guard. Asthar’s free hand reached over to the nearby table and took hold of his glass of wine and as he listened to the guard going to his knee and bowing, Asthar just sighed as he began to take a sip.
“Milord, a beautiful winged woman claiming to be the great fairy and empress had requested an audience with you...”
The very moment the young king heard those words his eyes widened and the wine that was in his mouth was sprayed out as he rose up and sat properly, lowering the paper from his face. “WAIT WHAT?!” Asthar yelled. What would compel the fairy to leave her domain in the Woods of Winter? Asthar could only close his eyes and cross his arms as his face turned stern. “You jackasses I know what you are planning. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me! It’s not going to work again! Last time you assholes told me there was a beautiful fairy waiting for me I was greeted by a fat hairy middle aged man pretending to be a fairy in green...” Asthar said suddenly shivering in disgust at the recollection of the meeting.
“B-but sire...we are serious this time...and very beautiful”
“hmph! Not buying it!” Asthar said with a scoff as he turned his head away, but then opened one eye and peeked over at the guard and noticed just how serious the guard was and could even see a pinch of fear in the guard’s eyes. “...beautiful, you say...” Asthar said and he then let out a deep sigh brushing away one of the bangs of his long hair away from his face. “bring her in...” Asthar said. If this wasn’t a joke and he refused his meeting with the empress then that would cause serious problems. With the way the guard was acting Asthar began to believe the guards words.
And so Asthar sat upon his throne calmly awaiting the empress that had personally come to greet him herself. Sure enough Asthar could hear the footsteps growing closer and closer and finally the door were opened and the empress was let in. Before him stood a woman of pure beauty, perhaps the guard was understating just how beautiful she was. This beauty along with the wings upon her back was truly what defined her as the empress of the winter woods and a being called the great fairy. In response, the crimson eyes king rose to his feet and spread out his arms in a welcoming manor. “Ah to see such beauty to roam into this palace is truly a gift beyond compare!” Asthar said as he placed his hand across his chest and closed his eyes with a bow “I welcome you to Horon Castle, to what do I owe the pleasure of having the radiant empress as a guest?” Asthar said as he rose his head up to look at her while still in his bowed state as he smiled. “Would you like a seat? A meal or drink? Do not hesitate to ask milady” Asthar said
Her welcoming is what she expected. Red eyes resting upon her frame as if she was a methodically placed feast. Lips curled into a soft smile, her hands gripping at her gown as her body dipped in a curtsy. By no means would her appearance here be classified as a gift, but the young king was flattering to his guest, and that was a trait he did not share with his late father. Galatea grew more curious about King Asthar and just how much of the whispers would be true.
Stopping meters shy of his throne, her wandering golden orbs took in the sight of the throne room, finding its extravagance to be pleasing to the eye, and once again she was thinking of how to bring life into her own castle. "The honor of being in your court today is all mine, your majesty."
Niceties were always redundant, though a necessary tool of flattery in order to encourage honesty from those you spoke to. Most of the time they would be denied, but Galatea was never intimidated by praise of adulation. "I do find myself famished after the long journey here," she said, raising a hand to rest upon her chest, "Perhaps we could speak our business over dinner?"
"I assure you, that my meeting could be extensive on time, yet worthwhile for the both of us."
This was going to be tough. Despite being warned, he wasn’t really expecting to actually stand before a pretty woman such as this, but his job as a king took priority and that was truly a shame. In response to his greeting she responded back with her own well-mannered greeting. Of course since she was an empress it was to be expected that she would handle herself with grace, but there were always empresses that would rather act more like brutish tyrants...something that Asthar’s ancestors were quite amazing examples.
Mere greetings and words were merely stuff that was unable to fully reveal a person’s true personality in a way and Asthar was quite curious to see just what kind of person this empress really was. Asthar didn’t place much thought into it and the moment that he heard the woman speak about having dinner the young kings face perked up rather cheerfully. “Oh?! Is that a request for a date I hear?!” Asthar said almost sounding rather excited as he closed his eyes and ran his hand through his long hair with a smirk. “Oh truly I am filled with absolute joy!” Asthar said before letting out a small chuckle as he snapped his fingers and began to walk forward, walking past the great fairy before turning his head to look over his shoulders with a childish grin and eyes still closed “I jest I jest! Allow me to serve you as my guest! Please follow me” Asthar said. It was with the snap of his finger that signaled the servants to begin working on forming a meal for the two.
“you say worthwhile...I do find that rather intriguing. Worry not, for a pretty lady such as yourself I shall spare all the time needed” Asthar said as he took a seat by the dining table and spread out his arm for her to choose a seat to sit upon. Grabbing a bottle of wine, the king began to pour the two of them a glass and as they did that the food began to come in to be placed upon the table.
The young king was quite eccentric. His humorous quip brought a soft smile to her lips as she followed behind him. With a simple snap of his fingers he was able to bring life to the table and in seconds was pouring her a goblet of wine. To someone who had lived for thousands of years, such a quick action was exciting to witness. "That is comforting to hear, as the subject of this conversation is nothing other than the dominion of your kingdom," she said her eyes closing as her expression shifted into a convincing grin. Normally such a topic would bring concern to every participant, yet Galatea seemed so calm and peaceful that her comment was unconvincing.
"I have been privy to the information that you have yet to provide an heir to the throne, is that correct?" she asked, the gold plated cup passing between her lips in between her inquiry, "Of course I doubt that I am wrong, so let's move on."
A quick moment passed before she continued, adjusting her frame in the uncomfortable chair so that her wings were not pinched in the motion. "Coming to the understanding that I am aware of the tyrants movements, I would ask just what you plan to do when he sets his eyes upon this land as well. In the reign of your fore bearers, they have neglected much of the land and in retaliation there is little Holodrum has to offer in resistance to an invasion."
Asthar always did his best to be a good host as it wasn’t that often he really did have guests. Unfortunately as his status of king he was rather limited when it came to guests and when these guests managed to come by he always did enjoy these moments even if said guests weren’t the most pleasant. With the food left out, Asthar placed a wine filled goblet before Galatea and then took grasp of his own as he looked over at her as she spoke.
The moment she spoke of dominion of his kingdom, he could only smirk almost in response to her own grin as he was quite intrigued. “Hoh? Is that so?” Asthar said as he closed his eyes continuing to listening to her. The tip of his goblet was brought to his lips and as the liquid entered his mouth he suddenly heard her next point. Crimson eyes burst open, yet he refused to spit out the wine just like last time. Instead, Asthar immediately swallowed what was in his mouth with a huge gulp, the sudden liquid running down so fast burning his throat as he then began to cough the moment the wine went down. “wh-what!? Heir!?” Asthar said in between coughs as he slowly began to calm down. All these talks about him needing to get a heir were really starting to catch him off guard and quite frequent to boot. “Y-yeah let us move on from that topic...” Asthar said looking away scratching the side of his cheek a bit meekly. Topics like this only made him think back at Aryll and as much as he loved her he also thought back on how complicated things were with them as well.
Able to compose himself rather easily, Asthar looked back at the empress calmly and smiled. “I’m glad to see you are well informed. As for you question, well, for now me and Eleazar have agreed to neutrality, but for how long that will last I cannot say.” Asthar said as he closed his eyes. “It’s only a matter of time, but when that time comes the people of Holodrum will fight for its freedom” Asthar said as he let out a small light chuckle. “You are quite right though, Holdodrum is quite a mess...no...a mess would be putting it lightly.” Asthar said as his smile faded. “It is broken and torn apart, but I believe should those pieces be brought together then there would a force far stronger than most would believe. Holodrum has remained stagnant for far too long and the decay has been apparent...I desire to change that.” Asthar said.
With a deep sigh the king merely leaned back against his chair, resting his cheek on his knuckle. He certainly had his work cut out for him, but how he was going to deal with it fully was always something he had to tread carefully. “Eleazar is quite formidable, but I worry not when it comes to a puppet. The true worry is the annoyance of a goddess prancing around stopping time and summoning dragons...” Asthar said. This was no longer about merely dealing with mere armies and no more about defeating a single tyrant, but instead they had to deal with the remnants of the realm of divinity that had seeped into the workings of mortals. “Tell me, Galatea, what truly brings you here now out of all times?” Asthar said, his voice calm and cool.
The mention of a goddess perked her curiosity. Though she had heard rumors of Majora's tampering in mortal affairs, to hear it from the mouth of a witness was --satisfying, which was interrupted by Asthar's inquiry of her intentions.
Removing an apple from the decorated table, she brought the fruit to her lips, taking a bite to consume it's sweet flesh.
"We both have something we want my King," she said after swallowing, her eyes tracing over his frame as she examined his body movements, "Though, desire is something new to my existence, and obtaining what I want will be more of a task than I had perceived in the beginning; Simply put, --I believe we can help each other."
Holding the apple close in hand, she took another bite of the delicacy, unknowing why fairies needed to eat, as the nourishment did nothing for maintaining the composition of their bodies. "You wan't unity of your kingdom; a feat that would be best accomplished before it is too late," she started with, "and I have the means of doing so, as well as applying my own capabilities against a foreign invasion. --In return, I seek to collect the remains of the triforce."
The fight against Majora was fresh in his mind...that is if you considered the encounter a fight rather than a mere beat down. Mere armies were not going to be able to take on Eleazar and so long a Majora supported Eleazar then they were in deep trouble. With the queen having secluded herself and her race in the woods of winter, Asthar couldn’t tell just how much she knew about what was going on, but he couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow intrigued by her words about wanting to help each other out.
She had something planned and it made Asthar even more curious about this woman. His father and forefathers never did pay mind to the fairies, but that was perhaps their biggest mistake. From this Asthar could potentially get a good ally or a troublesome enemy. Asthar listened to her speak on about while taking a bite of her apple. She was confident in her part of her proposed alliance, but Asthar wondered just how the very empress would be able to help. It was soon enough that she spoke of the triforce that his eyes widened a tad at her words. He hadn’t expected the conversation to suddenly turn to the topic of the Triforce.
A small and light chuckle escaped the king's lips as he pulled out his own shards of the Triforce of power and held it before his face, closing one eye as he observed the radiance of the shard casually. “Hmm is that so...and if I may ask, why?” Asthar said musing a bit as his eye looked over at Galatea “The goddesses desired the Triforce to be shattered, to be broken apart and its full power lost. I bore witness to action all those years ago...so why do you seek it? Do you wish to go against the goddesses wishes? What do you desire and how will you be of help to me?” Asthar said with a small smile.
His curiosity of her intentions was pragmatic. It was only natural that Asthar display concerns about her desires for the triforce. As the most powerful relic on the isle, it was a treasured and sacred item that was entrusted safekeeping for nigh a millennia. Galatea ran her thumb over her flesh toned lips, smearing the apple residue from them before answering his question.
"The fragmentation of the triforce aided in the prevention of an immediate evil, but has neglected to protect the realm in the face of future instability," she said, referring to the rise of Eleazar, "If the triforce would be whole again, then balance can be restored, and harmony granted to the realm of light once more."
"You assume that my actions would be unjust in the eyes of the goddesses, however you remain ignorant to the fact that I am an embodiment of Farore's will. Fairies were amongst the first beings that breathed life, and have remained diligent to guide those that have lost their way."
Though she may not have been the eldest fairy, she had lived for centuries, and watched Hylia's reincarnations come and go. This day, was a mere second in the eyes of Galatea who had lived for so long, and would for much longer still.
"However, this will be a feat much easier achieved if I was no longer bound by the laws created from my siblings," she remarked, making note of Finvarra and Aseilia, --and revealing her true intention; that she sought to dethrone the fairy queen herself. "...as for helping you," she started, "I can give you a regiment of, --one thousand. I suppose this shall be suffice enough in driving the scourge from your lands. While small in number, I am sure you will find their lack of worldly inhibitions to be effective. It should take me no longer than a day to procure this army."
Standing from the table, she brushed the front of her black satin gown, "I also possess other abilities that are renown to the great fairies," Placing the apple core on the table, its once yellow flesh turned a dark black as it withered instantly at the hand of the Empress, "My alliance is something you do not want to back away from, and I will not offer it again. In return I ask for your service in tracking down pieces of the triforce.... --I will give you a day to think about it," she ended, dismissing herself from the room, and the castle.
Outside of Horon city, she prepared the elements needed for her promised infantry.
How truly intriguing… The triforce was the ultimate power that held a might that could only be surpassed by the three goddesses themselves. Of course, most would be wary, they would fear such a power while others may seek out such a deadly power. Those who sought this power were nothing but fools and the fairy before him was no exception. Balance would be restored? Harmony because of that golden power? How laughable the notion truly was. All that had happened in this world, the conflict and despair could be traced back to the Triforce. So long as mankind held greed in their hearts and so long as that power existed then only result would be war.
Asthar had to admit he wasn’t quite well versed in the ways of fairies, but he couldn’t necessarily blindly believe that the woman held Faore’s true will. Perhaps she did and perhaps she didn’t, but of course to no surprise she held that haughtiness worthy of somebody from Holodrum. She believed herself to be following the will of the goddesses, but there was one thing he noted. She wanted her siblings to not butt in. There was disagreement, between the fairies, but how severe the discord between them was quite the question. If the fairies all held the will of the goddesses, they why was there disagreement. In the end Asthar could only judge one thing and that was that this woman’s words were not painting the full picture. For one who holds the desire of stability and peace, she is ill fitted if she holds the sense of desire
Asthar didn’t say a single word as he merely sat and listened to her words with a soft smile upon his face. Her speech moved on to the topic of what she would do for him and Asthar took note of what she had to say. A thousand men would be of some use to him and the worry about them turning against him didn’t matter much because if she could summon such a huge amount of soldiers then it didn’t matter whether or not they worked for him or not as she could just send them to attack regardless.
In the end the great fairy of Holodrum ended her speech and in the end before he could even say anything, she suddenly got up and left, warning him that he only had a day to decide. There was nothing but silence in the dining room as he sat there and eventually a loud and deep sigh was released as Asthar closed his eyes and slumped. “Yes, Yes, Welcome to the Kingdom of Holodrum! A land where everybody has a stick up their ass!” Asthar said to nobody exasperated as he rose to his feet and walked off towards the nearby window, looking out at the huge scenery of Horon City. “Nonetheless, you have picked my interests oh great fairy…must you rush yourself? My answer is chosen and I wish to see those true desires of yours reveal itself…” Asthar said as he narrowed his eyes with a smirk.
