Blue eyes gazed out over the crystalline surface of grand lake before him, Caelum sitting near the shore of the great Lake Hylia. He was here acting as accompaniment to Zelda - his role to act as her escort, and her shield should the occasion ever arise. Luckily, there was no need for him to take action this day. However, there was also no luck in Zelda's endeavors, as they had left their base of operations in hopes of finding more potential allies to their cause. While the day may not have proven fruitful, it still held a positive note, in that there was no need to take action against anyone. All seemed like it was well... save for the awkward silence that had been with the pair throughout their entire journey so far. The only reason they were here at Lake Hylia was to take a brief reprieve from the travels. Caelum did not mind, as his aimless staring out into the horizon gave him a sense of peace. Some clarity.
The suns' rays overhead glimmered upon the pristine surface of the lake waters, only adding to the beauty of nature which held this single point in the world captive in Caelum's eyes. Closer inspection gave light to some slight, yet noticeable features upon his face - perhaps a tad thinner than Zelda might remember, along with dark circles beneath his eyes. Clear signs of potential malnutrition and a lack of proper sleep. It only made sense, considering that he always volunteered himself to take watch every night, spent so much of his time training himself and those who wished to fight on the front lines. Suffice to say, self-health was one of the last things on Caelum's mind.

It had been a long day for the young heiress. Despite the sun not fading into the horizon just yet, it felt as though too many hours had passed, her dedication and determination falling into error, as it usually did, when it came to finding those who would swear fealty to her cause. Everyone was afraid - and for good reason. While she was not bold enough to venture into the main cities across Hyrule, she had made her way to many small villages within the area, far enough to stay out of the ears of those who may breath a word of her survival to the enemies that had taken siege of the castle. [break] [break] They were all very afraid though, and she couldn't blame them. With all the failures she's endured, why would they want to give an oath to blind hope that everything will be okay? She had spent so much of her time dedicated to this destiny, and yet she had nothing to show for it. She was an heir of failure and the crumble of her own kingdom. And as if she had not already endured enough, she had to swallow the hate that the gossip mongers spread of her hero. The first hero to fail. But, no matter how they went about it, no matter how many times she played the scenarios in her head, even if they had discovered him sooner... they were always set up for failure. The fate in which they were now living was inevitable. [break] [break] Zelda had rested her bare feet in the sand as the shallow tide of water slowly crept upon her toes. Wind grazing her hair lightly, she closed her eyes, smelling the freshwater and pine as it filled her senses. There were not many words spoken between Zelda and her brother. It seemed that he was tired, and she was as well. They hadn't spoken much of anything recently though. Four years passed since the War of Gods, and while he swore to protect her and followed her until the end, she still felt a rift in their relationship, as though she barely knew him as a person anymore. While he was out on the field, supporting her cause and helping with supply runs... what was she doing? Sitting by that damned sword, mourning for her lost hero. For four years.. [break] [break] She was so afraid of failing again, that she refused to leave its side, too afraid to go out into the world to send a message of hope to her people. She was a coward, at best. She wasn't quite sure what had changed. Perhaps she had finally realized that her fear was prolonging the fate of her kingdom. She had only now begun to slowly show her face to the world again. She felt that now was the right time to announce the return of her family. [break] [break]"I'm sure the next village will be more promising," she assured Caelum, trying to not sound as disappointed in their hesitation to aid their cause. "I can understand their apprehension though... a family thought to be dead for years, suddenly returning and asking for able bodies to join them without knowing what their numbers are? I'd be afraid, too."
"I'm sure the next village will be more promising... I can understand their apprehension though... a family thought to be dead for years, suddenly returning and asking for able bodies to join them without knowing what their numbers are? I'd be afraid, too."
The sound of Zelda's voice made Caelum jolt just ever-so-slightly, head turning to face his sister as she stood beside him. It wasn't hard to tell that she was worried about what was coming in the future - about whether or not she could do actually do what she had set out to do. The moment she was born, she immediately had such high expectations thrust upon her. Caelum was the firs born, and thus, already had his life decided for him to be raised to be a proper a king. That was normal in any royal family when an heir was selected. But when it came to being born as a divine being incarnate with mortal flesh? That was beyond any amount of expectation any mortal man could think of coming under. Honestly, if not for that, Caelum would have been happy for Zelda when she was appointed heir to the throne. But the fact was that she was forced into it by forces that she, nor any other had control over.
Caelum slowly turned his head back to look out towards Lake Hylia, drawing in a breath before speaking in kind. "They say that there's no telling what life may bring. Whether it be glad tidings, or ill. Good fortune or bad. It is simply something that we, the many mortals of the Land must simply face. It is what we are best at because we adapt. Although..." he drifted off as he spoke now of the present. "Regardless of such truths... there is naught in this world that I can ever imagine that would have prepared us for what has already come... and what may still await us."
These days, Caelum did his best to fit the part of older brother and role model, so every so often he would say something that even he could say sounded at least somewhat wise. He often surprised himself, since most of the wisdom in the family came from Zelda. Though, it was in times like these when she seemed vulnerable that he put forth the extra effort in order to ease her mind. "In a time like this, my dear sister... I'm afraid we must be steadfast against all obstacles, for it is when the greater moments may finally rear their heads that we will worry the most." Easy for him to say, when he was hiding a lot of things from his sisters the most. But there would be a time and a place for it all. He just didn't feel that now was that time or place. There were plenty of other problems that needed to be resolved first.
"Worry not, dear Zelda. We will overcome the challenges before us. We need only take them one step at a time."

"How long do you think this will last though?" Zelda spoke rather impatiently to Caelum's words of encouragement. She turned to face him, a desperate gleam in her eyes for any validation as to why this fate had fallen upon them. Truthfully, she felt like she was slipping away. She spent the better part of four years bottling up everything and hiding it behind the closed doors of the Temple of Time, not wishing to be disturbed as she mourned in private. There was no one she's really spoken to about her worries, and while she tried her hardest to contain her frustration and keep composure while among others... today didn't seem to be working so well. [break] [break] "I don't know what else we can do, Cael, I'm running thin as it is," her voice wavered. "No one will listen to me--they think I'm a failure. I was ripped from the throne as proof of that! The only way for us to truly win..." she trailed off for a moment. She couldn't even find words to speak without sounding completely desperate for validation of her loss. "If the people were able to see that the hero was alive, perhaps they'd be more willing to step up," she finally finished. [break] [break] It was such an odd loss for her. Despite being lovers, the young heir had grown up putting this "hero" on a pedestal. From the ancient texts she studied, to the stories that were passed on through the generations, the story of the Legendary Hero fascinated her. There was never an era where the world could not be without one to save it. He never faltered and never failed. [break] [break] Until now. [break] [break] It was an unhealthy obsession. Perhaps it was because she projected her own failures onto this idea, one that her own father had buried into her brain long ago. Perhaps it was because she still hasn't heard the voices of the gods since the incident. She had the visions of an omen, and then silence. And then they appeared to Link's aid when he was fatally wounded, and then silence. All the praying, all the ritual, all for nothing. And yet Link was simply handed the title at the ripe age of twenty. Never having a history of knowing he had a role to play in destiny, and yet it was given to him on a silver platter. The Master Sword accepted him with no complication. [break] [break] It was because of this, that she felt she was useless to her own Kingdom, and put such a heavy burden on the hero. He was the only sign of progression throughout this entire chain of events, while she only could hear the whispers of a goddess in a dream. She felt she had nothing to offer, and now the only one who could slay a god with the proper training was left to rot in a prison of another realm. [break] [break] "I just wish there was something I could do to show people that there is hope," she mumbled quietly.
"There is something you can do." he replied almost immediately, those tired blue eyes staring back into his sibling's own as he moved enough to place his hands upon Zelda's shoulders, traces of a determined fire burning deep within his hues. "I know that things look bleak right now, but you mustn't lose hope! I know how you feel, believe me! But we can't lose ourselves in despair here." he proclaimed, turning his head towards the lake, arm stretched out towards it and outward as he gestured for Zelda to look at the scenery before her. "Look at this. This is all here not only because of Ser Link's endeavors, but because of yours as well. The both of you have conquered over trials and hardships that are nigh unimaginable to the common man. And let me be the first to tell you that it is not solely because you are Hylia incarnate."
He paused for a moment as his head bobbed slightly, fighting off the urge to doze off on the spot as he tried to piece his thoughts together. He hadn't suspected that he'd be having this particular discussion so soon. Honestly, he hadn't thought much of it until now. It wasn't exactly a pleasant feeling to relive old memories in his mind right now. "Is it true that you had a vision of an imposing evil when we were still young? Yes. Is it true that you had to seek out the one who would be our Savior during those dark times? Yes. Is it true that you and he had to wage a war against encroaching evil that nearly devoured all? Yes. But you did not do all of those things as the Goddess Hylia. You are Her Majesty, Queen Zelda Hyrule. You accomplished all of those things yourself with Ser Link. If not for you the two of you, I doubtless could say that we would not be here today. I would not be here today if not for the two of you."
Caelum let out a sigh as he was approaching the difficult part of the conversation. Reality. "But... Ser Link is no longer here with us... which means that we must make due on our own 'til we find a solution that will bring him back to the mortal realm. And right now, that means that we have to be strong. Not only for the people, but for ourselves as well." Hands removed themselves from Zelda's shoulders, and took one of her hands in his own, giving a gentle squeeze as he offered a small, but warm smile. "I know that I merely state the obvious... but it is also the truth. You are strong my sister. I dare say stronger than I. You have been gifted, yet also burdened with a fate that is nigh astronomical by the very definition of the word. And yet you persevered through all of it. Times are hard now, and you feel your faith is dwindling... and if you fear that you truly cannot believe in yourself... then believe in me who believes in you."
Without warning he released Zelda's hands and bolted up to his feet, striking a strange pose with his arms raised perpendicularly to his chest, the left arm raised highest with its finger pointing up towards the sky, Caelum drawing in a deep breath before bellowing out.
"FOR YOURS IS THE ARROW WHICH WILL PIERCE THE HEAVENS!!!
After that little announcement, it was silent, save for the gentle movement of the lake's waters, Caelum still holding that pose before turning his head slightly to look at Zelda and see how she would react.

Zelda stayed silent as Caelum spoke, going over the view around them, stating that it was because of not only Link's efforts, but hers as well. He spoke of her dedication and courage that she faced, and how none of this would have been there had it not been for them. The rest of the world didn't see it that way though - if Link hadn't called upon the gods, the world as they knew it would have been destroyed, and yet, people would continue to talk of their failure. The triforce may have been shattered, but the world was saved in exchange. [break] [break] It was true, that she may have done all these things, and they sounded so much better in words, but as for her actions - what more could they have done? Perhaps if she had found Link a little sooner, they could have completed his trials before Seith was able to come to full power to attack the kingdom. Or perhaps if she had heeded the goddess's warnings when she had first encountered them, then things would have turned out differently. [break] [break] But here they were now, and there was not much they'd be able to do if they only listed the what if's. As Caelum spoke of Link no longer being among their ranks, she clenched her hand tightly, closing her eyes as she nodded. "I will fin a way to save him," she said. "I promised him I would, and I know there is a way. The sword would not glow if there was no way to bring him back." Determination came over her expression once more as she looked back to the water. [break] [break] As she thought of the words he spoke, she couldn't help but feel that he may have been selling himself short. "You say I'm stronger than you, but you're forgetting who was the one out on the field this entire time. It wasn't me," she said quietly. "You've done more for the heroes than I have thus far. All I've done is shut myself away from the company of others while barking orders of what our failed plans of action were," she admitted. [break] [break] But as he suddenly yelled out into the horizon, striking a pose, which had startled Zelda as she looked up at him in surprise. There was a following silence, to which she wasn't sure how to respond, simply blinking with a blank stare in shock. "Are... you okay..?"
Well... that wasn't quite the reaction that he was hoping for. Then again, Zelda didn't always laugh at his moments of stupidity when he did it on purpose. Then again, thinking on it now... why did he do that just now? Perhaps he wasn't as sane as he would like to say he was. He'd slowly lower himself back to the ground, taking a seat as he let out a tired sigh. "Erm... mayhaps I'm a little more in touch with delirium than I had assumed." he replied, hand coming up to sweep a finger and a thumb over his eyes before pinching the bridge of his nose. If that wasn't a hint that he was heavily sleep deprived, then there was no telling what was.
"Ah... but, enough about me, Sister. Please know that strength is much more than running across a field, swinging a blade around and bellowing like an animal. It also takes strength to stand before people and give them instruction - guidance. To those who would follow our cause, you are a symbol of hope, as much as Ser Link is. In and of itself, our band is built off of hope. You just happen to be the beloved figurehead who's leading it. Er..." Perhaps that last statement wasn't the best choice of words in this case...?
"A-at any rate... you're doing just fine, Zelda. If anything I were to wish change upon, it would be that I should be able to do more. Not only for our people, but for us as well. Things are far from what they used to be when we were growing up back at the castle."

[attr="class","textie"] Zelda could see the bit of embarrassment that had painted over Caelum's face, to which she frowned slightly, feeling bad that she perhaps hadn't reacted in the way that he had hoped. Then again, it seemed that way with most people. She just wasn't the same person she used to be and could hardly find anything she found that brought her much joy. It was the reason she had been so secretive, perhaps knowing that she wasn't the best of company anymore. Too much melancholy for one evening, and she had a hard time shaking it. [break] [break] "Are you tired?" she finally asked. "If you'd like, we can head back to camp so that you can rest. You've been on the move for quite a while now, you deserve to rest." she faced him again, frowning in concern. Quite honestly, they could all use a rest. Every single one of them worked so hard every day just to survive and find numbers. Perhaps they were in need of a vacation, even if only for a day. [break] [break] When Caelum began to speak once more, giving his motivation toward her, she laughed lightly when the words didn't quite come out the way that he had hoped. Rolling her eyes playfully, she shook her head as she took a step toward the lake again, dipping her feet in the water. "Well, it's not easy. But I'm going to get myself back out there myself, instead of sending others to run errands for me," she nodded. [break] [break] He spoke of things being different than how they used to be, and she agreed... and yet, at the same time, it seemed like nothing has changed at all. The way she grew up compared to her siblings was not the same. Sure, Caelum was the only boy and had it a bit differently than their younger sisters... but he was put on a far smaller pedestal than she was. Her childhood was robbed from her at an early age, replacing toys with relics and storybooks with scrolls. Fun was a privilege she was never allowed to enjoy for too long. [break] [break] In the end, she still felt the still shame her father had given her if she had failed to uphold her duties, except now, it was magnified onto the entire kingdom. Before, it was behind the castle walls. Now it was exposed for the world to see. "I can only imagine what father would say if he saw me now," she grumbled.
The sound of his sister showing him concern was enough to snap his consciousness to full alertness, offering a small, sheepish smile as he nodded in turn. "Ahaha.. perhaps I could do with a short nap." he said, slowly rising to his feet with a slight sigh escaping his lips, a smile curling upon them as he looked to his beloved sister, a hand coming to rest upon her shoulder. "I'm glad that you are eager to shoulder the burden with us all. But do not forget that you too, are but one person. You need not be afraid of help. You merely need ask."
At the mention of their father was when the warmth in Caelum's face seemed to drop in an instant, his eyes averting to the ground in a hint of shame, the hand upon Zelda's shoulder tightening its grip slightly before releasing her shoulder altogether. "Father..." he faltered a little bit, drawing in a slow, deep breath, his hands tightening into fists for only a moment before he looked to his sister with a tired smile on his face. "...He would be proud, Zelda. Proud to see his daughter to have grown into a wise, beautiful young woman... fighting for her Kingdom - for the legacy which was left behind to her. Like the Great Three above, he and Mother are watching over us. Always."

When Caelum had spoke of perhaps needing a nap, she smiled lightly, looking around and thinking carefully. "We're pretty far from home..." she murmured. "Perhaps it'd be best for us to set up camp sometime soon. Or we could start heading back and stay in one of the villages. There are a few stable inns along the route," she pointed out. "If we left to go back to base now, we wouldn't get back until well into tomorrow early morning. It's a long trip." [break] [break] When he spoke of her only being once person, she noddded. "I know. After the events transpired from the war though... so many of my followers - including the people in our very coalition lost their lives. I felt responsible. As such, I felt it may be necessary to do things on my own... at least for now," she admitted. "I don't want anyone to lose their lives on account of my duties to our Kingdom. It's my burden to bear." [break] [break] She could tell that the mention of their father had brought a bit of irritation to Caelum's voice, as she turned to face him again, seeing that he was visibly discomforted by the mention. She wasn't quite sure why - or how their relationship was. She was so involved in her own issues with him, she never quite knew how he treated her other siblings. All she could remember that she herself was held at a higher standard than the rest. Her jealousy for her siblings was enough to make her avoid them for the most part, so she never quite knew what their relationship to father was. [break] [break] "He would be proud, Zelda." His words shook her slightly, almost stinging as they rang in her ears. Would he really? Sure, she took matters into her own hands... but only after she had failed time and time again. The cowardice she displayed thereafter, and her inability to let go would have surely given her a lecture or two if he were still alive. "I would hope so," she said with a sigh. "There's always more I could be doing though. That's something he always made sure to tell me. I could be doing more."
Zelda continued to speak with concern for Caelum's well-being, which brought a little more of a smile to his face. It was true that it would take an entire day for the pair to make it back to base if they were to leave now. More than likely, they wouldn't reach it until the following morning. And with Caelum as fatigued as he was, there was no guarantee that he could protect his sister in an even more haggard condition than he was already in. And while they were both no strangers to camping in the outdoors, he didn't quite trust the elements enough to keep danger from approaching, be it wild or man. That, and he'd much prefer that Zelda remain the healthier between the two, despite everything. The option of stopping at an inn at one of the villages was sounding the most appealing right now.
The mention of how Father was always pushing her with the encouragement that there was always something that could be done made the young man frown a bit. It was somewhat similar to when he had undergone his own training as a knight. There's always something more. That too, was something that had been drilled into his mind while Father was still alive. That there was always something more he could be doing. As if being the offspring of a family of royals wasn't enough pressure, right? He turned and placed both hands upon Zelda's shoulders, offering a warm smile as he spoke. "That could be said for literally anyone and everyone, dear sister. So that said, Father's form of encouragement doesn't quite hold much water in that regard." he said with a chuckle, a hand swiftly moving to cover his mouth to avoid yawning in Zelda's face. "Oof... but back to the topic of rest, I believe one of the village inn's would suffice nicely. I can't guarantee I'd make it 'til the coming morn if we were to trek back to base."
