PERSONALITY
Karliah has spent most of her life as the object of scorn, rejection and – at best – pity. Her lifetime of scorn and condescension led her to becoming extremely pragmatic and blunt. However, it has also provided her with nerves of dragon bone, and she is completely unafraid to face off against warriors as powerful or as intimidating as King Galadhion, Marik LeVain, and even the head of the Gerudo Guard.
Karliah is fiercely independent, sarcastic, direct, stubborn, and confrontational. She appears to have a carefree and adventurous personality, in contrast to the delicate doll her mother saw her as. Karliah loves battling and took great pride in her combat skills. She appeared eager to prove that she was as strong as anyone who could see and once claimed that she was "the greatest warrior in the world". Karliah's eagerness to prove that she could be independent led to some initial difficulties growing up in the Gerudo Tribe. Karliah insisted that she could "carry her own weight" and often mistook a simple friendly gesture as an act of pity for her differences.
Karliah is often brutally honest when criticizing others, especially her friends. She was vocal about her opinions on others regardless of status. Her occasional attitude or aloofness is likely related to her special treatment she received from her mother because of her strange hair. Due to her time as a competitor and champion of strength tournaments, she was an expert in verbally taunting and insulting her opponents and, on occasion, her friends. However, despite her many quirks, Karliah showed that she was a quick learner, and her courage and loyalty to The King seemed very stable.
Perhaps because of this background, Karliah is as awkward in personality; some have noticed that she has none of the easy confidence of some other warrior women. She yearns for respect and acceptance from others, and easily gives her love and loyalty to the few people who treat her with any degree of genuine courtesy. The Gerudo King and Zelda Hyrule are among those who have won Karliah's friendship and service in this manner. Karliah, much like Zelda, is motivated by her own sense of honor and duty, thus seeing most dishonorable acts as unacceptable. She often faces situations where her honor is eclipsed and opposed by her heart.
Karliah is very suspicious of the other races, refusing to trust them easily, especially if they are of human or hylian decent. Because of the trouble they have caused her tribe in the past, she feels that she must always keep a watchful eye on the king at all times if one is in their presence. She will become rather stoic, rude, and even hostile toward any other race if they arrive unannounced into the palace or step even an inch too close to her King.
She can be headstrong, sarcastic, cynical and judgmental, but she is also honest, straightforward, loyal, and determined. Although she has received extremely poor treatment from most hylians, Karliah clings to a naively idealized concept of knighthood. Despite – or perhaps because of – the fact that she has no expectation of ever being recognized by society for her accomplishments and strength of character, she nevertheless strives to live up to the ideal of a true knight at all times.
Karliah has proven herself to be one of the strongest fighters in the Gerudo, albeit the most underrated. In combat, she relies on a combination of her strength, and unrelenting brute force to win most fights.
Karliah does not let her strange hair hurt her self-confidence. She had high self-esteem in regard to many of her abilities. However, sometimes this acted as a ruse to hide personal insecurities.

HISTORY
Born into the diminished Gerudo Tribe, Karliah faced the reality of her tribe's dwindling strength from an early age. At the time of her birth, forty-five years of repeated Hylian invasions intended to capture and imprison the tribe's male who was set to be King had left them devoid of many of their child bearers. The tribe's defenses would have crumbled under the might of the Hylian Army; however, because of their relative inaccessibility in the Desert, and the perception that they were no longer a threat, they were mostly left alone.
However, when Karliah was eight, despite the King's treaty of peace that had been set into place shortly after her birth, Hylian mercenaries again raided the village to try and find and dispose of the lone male of their tribe. During the battle, they had once again taken many of the parental figures of the tribe hostage, never to return. Seeking shelter with her mother, Karliah ran back to her home and interrupted an exchange between she and one of the mercenaries. Karliah ran to find their head guard, but by the time they returned, her mother was gone. The disappearance of their mother had a profound impact on her, causing her to be very distrusting of other races, as well as a desire to hone her strength.
Karliah began to take on many of the domestic responsibilities expected of women of the Gerudo Tribe, despite her young age. Living in a tribe consisting almost entirely of women, children, and elderly, Karliah took care of not only her own family, but aided others as well. When the tribe began to slowly bring back life, many of the younger women had gone out to marry and bring back children. Karliah herself did not want the same fate though - to be trapped by the fate of restoring her race and showing no strength.
As she grew older, she began to work very closely with the Tribe Leaders. Now that the King was old enough to rule on his own, a test had been set out by the head of the guard to see who was worthy to protect him with her life. Karliah eagerly signed up for the event, wanting nothing more than to prove herself in battle and to give her life to the King. After successfully winning such a test of might, she was given the crest of the Gerudo as the King's personal guard.

APPEARANCE
EYES: Perhaps one of the most notable features of the Gerudo, Karliah's eyes shimmer like two golden orbs, appearing as bright as the sun. Surrounded by thick, long eyelashes, many have compared her eyes to that of amber or gold, accompanied by two thick red painted lines across her cheek bones below her eyes on each side.
They are a standard almond shape, considered to be fierce and intimidating, and are said to stare deeply into your soul if she watches you for too long, often shaking the bones of those who do not know her well.
HAIR: Perhaps the strangest part of Karliah's appearance, rather than the common reds, browns, or blacks that many gerudo have, Karliah possesses multi-colored hair of bright red and pure white. Her hair is quite messy, often kept up in a pony tail.
Wavy and falling to her middle back when down, it is thick and very smooth, considering the dry climate she lives in. She often wears a mask over the top of her head to keep stray strands of hair from falling into her face from her band keeping her hair back.
CLOTHING: Wearing traditional gerudo garb, Karliah sports wrappings around her breast area as well as on her arms, used to protect them from chafing of the red cloth gauntlets she wears to protect her wrists when using a blade. She will accompany this with a pair of gray harem pants that are protected by black braces and a scarlet sash. Below this, she wears black boots.
As for accessories, Karliah wears large, black beads around her neck, which are said to be a symbol of strength and protection toward the king. She wears a golden mask over her head, which was said to be given to her by the Gerudo Witch when she was a child, after losing her mother, however it is unknown if the mask has any special properties, or if Karliah wears it simply for fashion.
PHYSICAL FEATURES: Karliah is considered to be physically fit - more so than the average female. Because the Gerudo pride themselves as warriors of reputation, many have an athletic build and Karliah is no exception. She is quite tall compared to the average human, although is quite normal for the Gerudo race, standing over six feet tall, with sun kissed tan skin.
Because of the rigorous physical training Karliah has pushed herself through, she has a visible six pack on her abdomen, as well as toned muscles throughout her arms and legs.
LEFT DOMINANCE: Perhaps one of her best kept secrets, Karliah is dominantly left handed. She was born being left handed, however, she prefers the use of her right. Karliah is actively trying to master the ability to be ambidextrous. Because she has spent the last four years using her right hand, not many can tell that it is inferior compared to her left. She also uses this as a way to control her full potential while in combat. If she is truly having trouble with an opponent, she merely has to switch the use of her hands, now favoring her left. This can significantly improve her technique and use of her sword, for it is slightly faster and more graceful.
VOCAL DESCRIPTION: Example at 1:10 (WARNING - BOTW SPOILERS) - Karliah is said to have a voice that holds nobility and strength, often boosting the morale of soldiers and kinsmen alike. Her voice is described as sultry and ever so alluring, and yet maintains complete aggression and intimidation when in the presence of those who she does not trust.
Her inflection can go from soft and comforting to gritty with anger and growl in a moments notice, giving off a tension and startling fear to those who do not expect her. She can project her voice into far distances because of her deeper pitch, often able to call across the desert to those who are on the horizon if needed.
MAGIC
+ Super Strength: Because they are tall warrior women, they are very strong and able to fight back at equal or stronger strength of warrior men.
+ Heat Resistance: The Gerudo live in the desert, and have thrived in it for centuries. Because of this, they are able to withstand the scorching heat of the sun - this does not, however, give them resistance to fire.

WEAPONS
MASK OF VIGOR: Wearing this mask will increase Karliah's vitality and strength, giving her that of a superhuman ability to persevere in battle, do devastating damage upon magical enemies, as well as increase her speed of reaction.
