There once was a poor soul lost in the woods
Looking for home to their last breath
they begged for my help, the twang of the bow
and met the embrace of death
The woods always seemed so quiet when the fog settled in, ancient trees beaded with dew, whetting their thirst. The feel was almost supernatural, and many beasts took this time to emerge to forage or feed. They felt safe from the beasts of the forest.
What they weren't safe from was the two pairs of glowing eyes that appeared only before the arrow took their life. The victim of that today was a doe, plump with spring fat, and without a herd. She fell without a word, and silently, from the mist, emerged Hollow, stalking forward. With a sigh, she clipped her bow to her back, and took the deer by the legs, throwing it over her shoulder.
"Deer again? Well killed, I'm ravenous."
Hollow scoffed as her fairy emerged from the mist behind her, glowing eyes meeting his as he circled her, licking his lips. He was always so eager for their hunts, but she had made him promise to hold back on them. Their meals often ended up too mauled when he was done with them.
"And what makes you think you'll get any? This is my kill, maybe you'll get the scraps when I'm done."
Together, they traversed the mist with ease, walking back to the hollow tree they called home. Their bickering slowly reduced down to nothing, and they walked in silence, careful not to attract any beasts that might be looking for a bigger kill than a rabbit. Soon, the hollow was in sight, and Hollow sighed in relief. Blight rushed forward, circling about, as she took the carcass to the tree where she often hung them, and alongside two others, tied it to a branch. Her knife was taken from her belt, and she cut its throat, to bleed it out. With her work done, she planted the knife in a stump, and stretched, before looking about.
"The forest feels different today. Or maybe not the forest, but... Something. It's drawing me somewhere."
She didn't need his confirmation that he felt the same, but a sound of approval was what she got as he emerged from his den, licking blood off his chops.
"We have been meaning to pay those newcomers a visit. The old temple is their home, and they can be very noisy. Perhaps we could spook them, maybe nibble on their toes. I bet they have very tasty toes."
"No, my dear Blight, they mean us and the forest no harm. Something about them is... Lost. They may not be lost in the woods, but is it not all one and the same? Perhaps they need our help."
"Very well, but if they turn out bad, You can't stop me from my hunt. That's our promise."
"Don't worry, I wouldn't hurt your pride by depriving you your right."
---
The temple had changed in such a short time, at least for the duo. Hollow stood upon the outskirts of the forest around it, hand pressed against a tree as she silently watched the people bustle about, working in the morning fog. Many were armed, and she saw the banner of House Hyrule flying. Of course, she knew who they were, but she had never made an effort to get so close. Still, she wanted answers, as to why she felt so inexplicably drawn in by the encampment all of the sudden. Unconsciously, her hand closed around the gold shard on the end of her necklace, and she sighed.
"Asking myself questions always leads to more questions. Perhaps I should just..."
"Wander in and ask for their leader? They're not your people, dearest Hollow. They'd think you another monster. You have to sneak in, and I know exactly how."
"Your ideas worry me."
"Trust me."
---
Hollow couldn't help but giggle at how the soldiers reacted to the chaos that erupted in their livestock, animals balking and screaming in fear as Blight chased them around, laughing. It made getting into the encampment a breeze, and she only had to look for the fanciest place to find where their leaders would be. She sat upon the roof, hidden in the mist that occurred naturally, as well as that from her magic. Her legs kicked as she quietly hummed, waiting for somebody important-looking to come by.

What Artemis was expecting was to have a day off from the strenuous training and planning for the times ahead. He had finished in his recovery after the events in Castle Town and refused to sit around and wait for the others to do something productive, and so just after one week of his bed rest, he returned to his normal duties of scouting the forests and looking for supplies.
After returning from a rather successful and plentiful run, he had intended on taking this day to tend to the errands that were meant for his sister; she was however still incapacitated from the events within the Temple of Time. And of course the hero can't even be bothered to visit the woman who gave everything to save him. Although it was not visible in his expression, he couldn't deny the fact that each day she would not wake, he became a bit more unhinged; quick to anger and having zero tolerance for fooling around.
When word had come from some rather frantic soldiers who were in charge of guarding their livestock, he couldn't help but roll his eyes. Why was he so surprised that he couldn't even count on simple soldiers to guard chickens and cows? There was no question why they hadn't ranked up. Still, losing valuable livestock would be detrimental to their troops, so he immediately grabbed his sword and began walking down the beaten path leading toward the farm.

"This prince looks delectable. Do we have to talk to him?"
"Mind your manners, Blight. He's our guest."
Fate had a strange way of working, it seemed. Hollow was lying on her side, head resting on her hand, and she felt her eyes drooping until something caught them. Someone was walking towards the farm. She sat up, with a happy clap, and waited for the person to get closer, legs swinging as she sat on the edge of the roof.
He looks important... Like a prince! In fact, he seems familiar...
When he came close enough to be in earshot, Hollow let out a laugh, an eerie, echoing one, and she would wave when he looked up at her, head tilting curiously.
"You'll find nothing in the farm, fancy boy. I had to get in somehow, I've been dying of curiosity to see what goes on here. Welcome to my forest! Or, well... Our forest."
Her gaze flicked to the sight of a purple wisp dashing across a field, and Blight blocked off Artemis' advance to the farm, hovering before her.
"He's too bony. Hardly nothing to nibble on. What fun can we have with this one?"
"My dear, we're not here to have fun. We're here to find our purpose. We've been drawn to this encampment, this invasion of our home. I have watched these woods since their birth, and very rarely do Hylians inhabit it. Often, they cause trouble. But I sense you've different reason to be here."
"Hollow's much nicer about it than I am. We feel drawn here, but I can't tell if it's destiny or hunger. Guess that's up to you."
"And Blight is much more impulsive. I want to learn the purpose of this, hero."
She held the gold shard out to Artemis, reflecting in the torchlight. Her eyes glowed as she watched him, head cocked again, as Blight slowly circled around the two.
"Why did the Goddesses forsake us? Why was I given this? In my millennia alive, I have learned that very little is up to chance. At the very least, take me to who might know what my position in this dying world is."

A creature perched on the roof of a foyer looked down at him and he exchanged a tired look. He wasn't in the mood for childish games but it appeared that for the most part, things were left untouched. Perhaps the creature simply put a scare in the workers.
"Your forest?" he raised his brow. He looked over the wooden facial features, the corrupted fairy, and the general childlike form of the being. He deduced that it was a kokiri - or something similar to one, to which he gave a firm response. "Your forest is to the north. This location was once the bustling city of Hyrule long before the Hylian-Gerudo war centuries ago. Our people have thrived here since the foundation of our kingdom."
The corrupted sprite made note of his thin form, to which he narrowed his eyes in annoyance. The child spoke with more reason, asking for the explanation to a small golden fragment that she held out in her hand.
Taking a closer look, Artemis scanned over it to make sure it wasn't one of the false replicas. He could sense the power shimmering from within and he nodded. "A lot has happened that I'm assuming the children of the forest are not aware of. Perhaps the Deku Tree is not aware either."
Normally, he would take more precaution about a stranger in their camp - especially with the vulnerable state his sister was in. However, that shard held by the small being was one that they would not want getting into the wrong hands.
"If you would prefer, we can take a seat and discuss the changes of scenery. Hyrule isn't quite as prosperous as it once was. And judging by the comments of your friend, I'm sure something for lunch can be arranged."
