both were silent.
there were ways for kicking and screaming.
Whenever he visited anymore, he always made sure to bring two things; her namesake and lots of fruit. When he had first come here, all he could give was his company, and give it he did. Day after day, he came to visit her and talk with her. Over the years he had come to care deeply for his fairy friend, wishing that she could leave her fountain more often and more regularly. But apparently the damned Garo had hurt her beyond even her magic to heal. If he had a way to heal her, he would take it. He'd left with a detachment of guards, not that it was a long walk. Her fountain was right by the castle, but still, an Emperor had to be guarded, it was just the way things were. Maybe one day she'd be able to join him.
The guards were dismissed at the entrance and told to wait outside as they always were. No one doubted Kindness's loyalty and devotion to the Emperor, and many mourned that she could not leave her fountain to stand by his side. Both for the pragmatic view of having a powerful Great Fairy amongst their ranks, and the more emotional view that she was a wonderful person that they wished would be more involved. Indeed, the devotion to Kindness was rivaled by perhaps only devotion to the Emperor himself. Instead, they simply visited her as often as they could. She had gotten her wish, her fountain had come back to life. Alone and without his guard, Alexander entered the fountain with an air of imperial dignity.
And so Emperor Alexander entered into the fountain, a bouquet of red spider lilies in one hand, and a basket of peaches, oranges, apples, and strawberries in the other. With the two of them being in private, the air dropped, and Alex seemed to be someone completely different, just for a bit. He gave a smile as he held out his gifts to the Great Fairy of Kindness, or as he better knew her; Lycoris. "I hope you have the energy in you to accept a couple more gifts and talk for a bit?" She had so many visitors that sometimes he wondered if he wasn't pushing her too hard when he came. Should he start sealing off the fountain for a day, every now and then, simply so she could rest?
here were times when she dreamed while awake. Not in the same way that a person daydreamed, no, something closer to lucid dreaming. In those waking dreams she could do whatever she wanted, see the places that her heart longed for, touch and taste and see and smell until she could no longer have the energy to press forward. Those quiet moments were so peaceful and so treacherous, doing their worst to tempt her treacherous heart more than it did itself. Oh, how she longed and loathed for those times in equal measure. Because with them, she broke a bit more every day. Because without them, she'd grow cold as Snowhead's peaks.
A lull in visitors allowed her mind to wander and spirit to soar. A fairy's fountain, on the surface, was just that - a pool of water with pillars and assorted gifts laying around it. Inside, though, in a place only she ever went, was something entirely different. A lush garden with an eternal night sky above, deceptively comfortable benches made of stone, and books that wouldn't be all read even in another thousand years comprised her true home. Affectionately called the Star Garden, she often found herself gazing through an enchanted mirror to check up on people all over the world... and some who weren't part of the world at all. The Hylian princesses were particularly intriguing to see from time to time as they possessed great strength within their hearts. But truthfully, most of the time her mirror showed someone much closer to her fountain.
Someone who, by the change of the magic in the air, brought her to the surface.
"I would never have the energy to turn you away," she replied softly, traces of waking dream gone from her heart and clothing dry despite hovering over the pool of crystal clear water. She smiled, her eyes soft and warm as ever, and rose to float over to the edge. Only once she reached it did she touch down, lifting the edges of her black dress to ensure that it didn't get wet in the process.
"Has the day treated you well?" Lycoris tipped her head to the side and took the flowers of her namesake first, then the fruit. He knew her weaknesses far too well after all of the years they had been acquainted. Two peaches were plucked from the basket, one being kept and the other offered out. "I imagine that the paperwork is starting to become more tedious than it is exciting."

And there she was, as brilliant as any star in the sky. Really, why she ever chose Lycoris was beyond him when she was so much better. Reaching over, he took the peach and began to ruthlessly tear into it. It was just too sweet not to, really. He was Emperor, he had access to all the most exotic foods in the known world, and here he was, simply tearing into a normal peach. He simply nodded to her question as to whether his day had been good before continuing to tear into the peach. It had only been a couple minutes before everything but the pit had remained, and there was no way he was eating that crap. It was just in time to answer about the paperwork, the bane of any monarch, yes.
Alex laughed a bit at that. "I actually enjoy it, believe it or not." Yes, what most kings considered the bane of their existence, Alex actually didn't really mind doing. Writing policy, signing laws, writing correspondence, all these things, the Emperor took joy in doing. It was something that helped the Empire, it was something that helped his subjects. It was this diligence and the paperwork that allowed him to build the wealth that allowed his siblings to live the good life. He had much to be thankful for all because he read some paper and wrote his name on it now and then.
"But this has been a good day, yes. You always make it even better." He smiled, wiping his mouth. For an Emperor to act so... unseemly! It was boorish! But he could be a boor around Lycoris and he always enjoyed that. Still, "Have you had any trouble today?" He wanted to know. She was stuck here, her injuries made that clear. Someday he'd figure out a way to get her out of the fountain, to heal her beyond even what her own powers could accomplish. He stepped closer to the fountain waters before sitting himself down at their edge, marveling at just how clean and crystal clear they were.
he number of people in positions of power who enjoyed paperwork were less than the fingers on her right hand. Understandably, she arched an eyebrow at the Emperor of Termina and put on her best 'yeah right' expression, all the while not doubting his words for a moment. She never did. Doubt him, that was. In the years that came between them she found that was one of the many things she never did with him. Doubt him, lie to him, hide from him, find fault with him... but there were more things that she did with him. Worry easily and wonder about, open up to, take comfort in, and hold inklings of unconditional faith.
That made him dangerous. Oh, how she knew that all too well. Alexander du Ikana - her Alex - was extremely dangerous to everything she ever was and everything she could ever be. And yet, she found that it didn't scare her like it should.
(And it really, really should.)
"My day went fine. You need not worry yourself with that," her laugh was soft and warm, much like her palm when she rested her hand on the emperor's knee after he sat at the edge of the water. What wasn't so warm was the following splash of water she directed at him with her other hand, a coy smirk taking root at the corner of her mouth. "You have more important things to fill your head with than worries about an old woman like myself."
Ha! It was a good thing she viewed time a bit differently than mortals or else immortality would be dreary beyond reproach. Being everyone's favorite grandmother did have some perks, she supposed, and if nothing else the amount of history she'd witnessed from her fountain could fill countless books. Maybe she needed to start writing again.
"Though..." Growing thoughtful and pulling her hands back to her lap, the fae glanced upwards at the rock ceiling. "I did have a thought the other day. A small request, mind you. Nothing that grand or anything. But, when you have a day entirely to yourself, would you mind playing hooky with me? There is somewhere I'd like to visit. I've been gathering energy up for a small trip, but going alone would be boring."
Her fountain, while both home and prison, did have many perks. Leaving it for more than a few hours? Impossible. Gathering up magical reserves to go for a walk nearby? Doable, if only rarely.

Alex grunted as he did his best to shield himself from the splash of water that collided with him. Instead though, it went straight into his face, matting his hair down and getting rid of that fancy style that they worked so hard to make look prim, proper, and regal. In truth, he preferred it like this. It was more in line with how he looked before he came into... all this. The empire, the riches, all of that. He'd come here to ask for her blessing before he was even King. Yes, Lycoris was one of the few that knew who Alexander was, rather than the many who knew of Emperor Iskandar. He looked through his dripping locks to her before he laughed. "Only in numbers." He complimented.
Still, she wanted to go somewhere the moment he had a free day? She'd been building up energy to get out of the Fountain for a bit then. For a moment, he felt a brief pang of heartache as he was reminded that she was trapped here for vast majority of her time. It also reaffirmed that he needed to find a way to get her healed up so he could get her out of this fountain. Nice as it was, she should be able to explore as she pleased, see the world, live in a mighty castle. Anything like that. But for now, Alex could only smile as he gave her a soft, pleased look. "Tomorrow then." He was the motherfucking emperor, and if he felt like taking a day off, he could damn well take a day off.
Playing hooky though? She wanted to be discreet then. "Anything you want me to bring?" Just what could she possibly be planning? Perhaps he should forego all the regalia and all that, just come as Alex or something.
hat sort of thing would be useful to bring where she wanted to go? There were endless possibilities really, but three things stood out more than anything else. And by revealing those, really, it already perfectly painted the picture of what she had in mind. "A basket with your favorite foods. A kite with plenty of string. A cloak that I can use to get around without being spotted."
Clothing was, like many things, not readily available for her. It wasn't as if she didn't have things to wear - in fact, she had more than she could comfortable use in her lifetime! - but they tended to be lavish and over the top in terms of appearance, as most people who gifted her clothing were those with significant wealth. One such man liked to come by once a week with fancy jewelry and elegant dresses, both of which she didn't have much use for. Were it not for an obvious courtship on his part, she would have turned the gifts down long ago. The idea of breaking the poor man's heart didn't settle all that well with her, and until he had time to settle and fold his feelings, she'd accept them with a smile.
Just so long as he never asked her for a reply. That would be the day a heart would have to break, patient kindness or not.
"You should also... be less..." Lycoris bit down on her lower lip, her features pursing in a pout-like scowl. "...this." What other way could she put it? Be more natural? No, because Alex looked just as natural dolled up as he was as he did when he decided to change things up. The only issue was he'd be easily spotted and, were that to happen, the time would be cut short. Her plans being ruined never set on her stomach well.
"Mm! If you have any of it, that import that came in last time. With the cacao beans, milk, and sugar. That was divine." Even a fae such as herself found chocolate to be a weakness.

there were ways for kicking and screaming.
Bring the chocolate. The other things he could get, bring some food and bring a kite. From what he had to guess, maybe the Great Bay? It was a great place to fly a kite, plenty of place to run, nice outdoor breeze, the salty scent of the air. Maybe that's where she was feeling like going. Still, he couldn't help but find some amusement in the specific request for chocolate. "You really are hooked on that stuff aren't you?" He let out a chuckle. She was a powerful fae that was older than nearly everyone in the world as far as he knew, wise beyond her years with the experience and magic to boot. Yet he had managed to perhaps discover her weakness was that of simple chocolate. "Fair enough, none of that should be difficult to acquire."
And don't come all dolled up. Fair enough, if he was recognized it would be a hassle, they would want his attention or something and that would just ruin the time out. Then there'd be the scandal of being along with the Great Fairy. Though would that be a bad thing? Maybe not. Nodding, he agreed. "I could just let my hair down and wear something different." Sure, he may have looked natural all dolled up, but even minor changes could render someone completely unrecognizable. Really, if nothing else, it'd be less changing how he looked and more going back how he used to look. When he'd first met Lycoris he didn't have the whole regal Imperial style going. He was just a guy with messy hair and standard clothes.
Taking a moment to contemplate the use of a cloak though, he found it a bit odd. "Do you really need a cloak though? I always imagined you could just fix a glamour if you really wanted to hide." Really, the idea that she had magical limits was a bit of an odd one. He understood she was permanently injured, but that was physical, not magical. He could get a cloak, but he always figured that cloaks seemed to draw some attention because it was an obvious way of saying you didn't want to be noticed. But, if it was a cloak that she wanted, it was a cloak that he would get. Getting her what she wanted was the least he could do!
he Great Fairy of Kindness immediately scoffed at Alex's words, shaking her head from side to side to show her immediate dissatisfaction over his suggestion. "If I were to magically glamor myself, it would be going against everything I have in mind for tomorrow." That said, she could work a spell to retrieve the appearance she once had, many years before the current lord of Termina was conceived. It would surprise anyone alive to know that the fae once looked quite different than she did now, with shorter sunkissed locks and eyes more vibrant than new leaves born unto a warm spring day. Lovely as she was now, her appearance lacked the brightness it used to, with snow and amethyst replacing what once was there. A side effect of being forgotten for so long, lost in a valley of death and despair and endless regret.
How odd. It didn't really dawn on her until that moment how much she missed the woman she used to be. So much life and laughter filled her in those days long ago. Even if a spark of it returned, too much had happened. It snuffed out the traces of that spirited one and ensured the shackles of life ensnared her completely, pushing away any hope of one day breaking free of those self-inflicted chains.
Before allowing her internal musings to put a complete damper on her mood, and likewise reflect it on her all-too-readable expression, she gathered up enough water to splash at her companion again. "Don't forget, and don't get tied up with something else. I'll be very, very, very disappointed if you do." Lycoris wagged her finger, knowing full well there was no threat concealed behind her mirth-filled tone. Even if Alex didn't show up the next day or the day after, or for years to come, she'd have faith he'd return. She'd wait until he did, and that's just how it would be.
He wasn't old enough for her to worry about his age stealing him away. And were someone to plot against him or harm is body, then come hell or high water, they'd pay with every red drop within their veins.

there were ways for kicking and screaming.
Part of what she had planned involved her not using a glamour? Well now, what in the world could Lycoris possibly be planning that she couldn't use her magic, no magic for it. He knew what to bring, and of everything, he wasn't even sure what about any of that magic could possibly interfere with. Alex crossed his arms as he got a curious look on his face. He had a feeling she probably wouldn't tell him even if he asked, the surprise would have to be kept, and what a surprise he was sure it would be. Still, it was going to be rough keeping her hidden. With her snow white hair and amethyst eyes, add in that Fairy beauty, and she was sure to stand out. A cloak might not help much.
Of course, he seemed to notice the subtle shifting of her face for a moment, but the shifting seemed to stop as she geared up to hit him again with more of her fountain water. This time, Alex saw it coming just a little bit sooner than he had the last. He raised this arms as he shielded his face from the oncoming water. He still got soaked, or more soaked, if he could be, but at least the cold sensation of the fountain hadn't blasted him in the face. It just continued to make him look a bit more like his old self, with blond locks, darker in color for the moment, drooping down and sticking to his face. "I won't forget, I'll make sure to have everything ready to go by tomorrow." he assured her.
So he needed a kite, a good cloak, and chocolate. He could get all of that in Clock Town tomorrow before he headed back here. On the back of a Goht it wouldn't take long if he got up early enough to get busy. What kind of cloak should he get though? Red maybe? Red seemed like it might be a good color on her. He rose to his feet. "Tomorrow then?" He just needed to make sure that he was actually there on time, it would not do to have a disappointed fairy on his hands~ He just needed to figure out how he was going to work all of this, she only had a few hours out of that fountain, so he had to make sure that everything would be perfect.
