PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION:
Adagio is a man of many qualities. The first quality someone might notice about Adagio is that he tends to smile frequently. Adagio is a naturally happy and optimistic individual, and he has a positive outlook on life. He could be described as sociable, or even downright friendly. In a way, Adagio is a people person and he has an open heart. He likes to get on with everyone and is warm towards even people he has just met. Perhaps he is too outgoing, maybe even getting on people's nerves unintentionally.
Still, he fancies himself something of a dashing rogue. He speaks with confidence. Perhaps more confidence than he should, but he's just a naturally outgoing young man. He does not shy away from others, and in matters of women, he is even something of a flirt at times, though he's far from a womanizer.
However, he does not stick around for long. Adagio is a wanderer at heart. At the end of the day, he is going to leave his new friends. Adagio goes place to place, doing as he pleases. In some ways, some might describe him as selfish. He's concerned primarily with his own goals and the road is his only really home. Adagio might even be described as unreliable. Do not expect him to keep all his promises, to say the least.
Though that is not to say he is a bad person. Adagio is quite the opposite. He has a strong sense of right and wrong and of justice. He believes in treating people well and doing right by them. At times, he can even be described as self-righteous, he who can do no wrong. When he sees a wrong, he wants to right it. Perhaps he goes too far sometimes, or he gets out of his depth. Things are very black and white to him; there is little grey.
Adagio has something of a chip on his shoulder. He has some slight problems with people in positions of authority, particularly other men. As such, he can have something of a rebellious streak. He has a habit of going his own way, and rejecting the conventional way of doing things if he feels there is a point to be made. This lends itself to a certain stubbornness, but also a kind of bravery.
In short, Adagio makes his own way, though he does enjoy company.
LIKES:
- Traveling - Adagio's one true home is the road. He is a wanderer at heart, and he loves it. He wants to see the world and try and find his place in it. Life is far too fleeting to spend it cooped up behind walls day in and day out.
- Music - Adagio has a certain love for music, though he lacks much in the way of skill in it, outside of his voice. But he loves a good song. Bar songs, traveling songs, and so on. He has an ear for it, and he often finds himself humming his favorite tunes.
- The Spotlight - Adagio is fond of being the center of attention. The young Hylian loves it when eyes are on him, when people watch him as he goes. As such, he has a certain love for heroics and other actions that lend themselves to getting the spotlight. He just likes the attention.
- Rain - Though he might be loathe to walk in it because of the often biting cold that comes with it, Adagio has a weak spot for the pitter patter of rain drops and the feel and smell that a rain brings with it.
- Good Food and Drink - Though he's not gluttonous, Adagio does like to eat and drink. He enjoys the taste of things and appreciates a good, hearty meal. Though, those can be hard to find at times.
DISLIKES:
- The Cold- Adagio hates the cold. He's always hated it. He dresses against it. It runs counter to his comfort on the road, after all.
- Crime - Adagio detests the state of things in Hyrule, and how they lend themselves to the corruption of man's morals. Small, petty crimes might earn a frown and some biting words, but anything larger inspires action.
- Dull People and Boredom - Adagio wants excitement, action, adventure. He wants to see wonders, big and small. He wants to fill his life with interesting people, enough to fill a story book. Though, he has little love for those and those things that run counter to that. He's not one who likes to sit still, and though he's still friendly to them, Adagio prefers not to keep dull company if he can help it.
- Being Tied Down - Adagio likes to wander. Anything that keeps him in one spot for longer than he wants will earn a frown from him.
- Cold Food - Though he's gotten used to it on the road, cold food will always sour his moment. He's not especially fond of it.
MOTIVATIONS:
- Seeing the World - First and foremost, Adagio wants to see the world, or what is left of it, while he still can. It's a whole wide world, and Adagio wants to see it all.
- The Thrill - Adagio is in it for the adventure, too. He loves the thrill of a good fight, or the tension of a heated moment. It makes him feel a live, and it gives him a story to tell. Provided he survives, of course. But Adagio considers himself a real adventurer.
- Discovery - What does this mean? It could mean finding treasures or lost lands, but Adagio wants to discover. Perhaps it might even mean discovering himself, or finding his place in the world. There's a great unknown, one that he's part of, and he wants to reveal it.
FEARS:
- Death - The wanderer's path is one fraught with danger. Adagio, of course, knows this, but it doesn't make it any easier. Oftentimes when he lies in darkness, trying to usher himself down into sleep, his mind catches onto one thing: what if he dies? What if he dies out there, all alone, far from anyone he's ever loved? It's a enough to fray his nerves and give him pause.
- Commitment - Not just romantic commitment, but one thing that strikes Adagio with fear is the idea of being tied down. It's an emotional and mental barrier for him, that idea of being bound. Perhaps it might be related to his upbringing, but Adagio is loathe to make any kind of serious commitment and the though of his freedom being stripped away is terrifying.
- The Fate of Others - Adagio is bothered by the state of the world, and he is concerned for the fate of those he considers friends or loved ones. A constant nagging fear in the back of his head is the ultimate fate of people he has left behind. Were they okay? Were they unharmed? What has happened to them? Sometimes it keeps him up at night.
HISTORY:
Adagio was born in a time before darkness ruled, back when Hyrule was well within the control of the Royal Family, when light triumphed, when the knights of Hyrule were a proud bunch. Adagio springs from such a line of knights, at least in part. Adagio is the product of a dalliance between the daughter of a retired Knight-Captain, who was on the path to Knighthood proper herself, and a mysterious man, a father who he never knew. His father rolled into town one day and his young mother was smitten with him, to hear the tale told. His father was a wanderer himself, clad in grey robes beaten by the road, a sword on each hip. This dashing stranger with black hair captured the heart of his mother, so much so that a romance bloomed within days and, before long, a child was conceived. But the flame that burns the brightest dies the quickest, and before long his father left the town and hit the road again, leaving his mother with three things: a child in her stomach, one of the swords from his hips, and a name: Adagio. Yes, the child would be named for his wayward father, in time. In the nine months that preceeded his birth, his mother returned to the modest home of her own parents, giving up her own dreams of knighthood so that she might give birth to her child in relative stability.
And so it was. Months passed, and though there was some tension between his mother and her parents, Adagio was born into the world with little issue. As it turned out, the infant had the eyes of his father, more than that even, he was the wanderer's spitting image. And so he was named: Adagio. In time, his infancy passed and he progressed all children did: walking, talking, and the like. He was well loved by his mother, and even his grandparents had a soft spot for the child, though they'd taken issue with his conception. He'd been a loud baby, more independant than most. He liked to be left to his own devices, crawling on the ground rather than being held. This streak would never quite end.
In time, Adagio came into his early childhood, and that is where his story began in earnest. His grandfather had gotten it into his head that he wanted Adagio to be a knight like he had been, as if some sort of replacement for his daughter. His mother, eager to see her son grow, was just as excited at the prospect. So, from an early age, Adagio was taught how to hold a sword. The young boy took to it like a fish does to water, and he found a childlike wonder in the miniature sword his grandfather had had fashioned for him. This practice would eventually grow into proper training at arms. As he grew older, his training grew more intense. Before long, he was actually learning to fight and not just how to swing a blade like some kind of stick. He learned footwork, positioning, stances, the whole lot of it. All of his grandfather's hard won knowledge was being passed on to him.
But still, that streak never quite faded. In time, the training grew even more harsh and Adagio almost grew to resent his grandfather. In adolesance, these feelings only intensified and they were also paired with a sort of resent for the whole idea, as well as others, like his father who was always absent. But it was not all bad. Adagio had some solace. He'd made a friend in his childhood. Of course, he'd always dad friends. It was just in his nature, but this friend was something more, a constant companion. She was his best friend, to say the least. And her name was Chasse. Together, the two got into assorted misadventures all through out childhood, and they were his relief from his grandfather's regime. And, perhaps, Adagio began to feel something more.
But as time went on, Adagio began to mature, though he still has something of a chip on his shoulder. At the young age of fifteen, he was finally coming into his own. Things seemed to be unfolding well for the young man. He had friends, his training was going well, and he was generally happy with life. But there was a yearning him, a calling. The road called his name and, in secret, he began to make preparations to leave home and find his own way, even if it meant giving up everything his family had wanted for him. He could not explain where this calling came from: it just happened, and so suddenly, like a gust of wind from nowhere. A certain romanticism grew in his heart, an idealized version of the vagabond life. He even tried to convince Chasse to come with him, but she was cut from a different cloth. No, it seemed Adagio was going to have to find his own way. Whether or not that was a good idea for a young man, that was another story, but he wanted what he wanted.
However, things cannot be quite so simple. As fate would have it, a darkness descended on the land. Despite the brewing war, his life had been left untouched. That was until things finally broke. The Royal family of Hyrule was ousted and anarchy reigned. Chaos took his home. Until then, he'd not gave a damn. He did not care about the so-called hero nor the state of the Royal family. He was content with his own little world up until that moment. But after the darkness came, well, he cared then.
With all bets off, Adagio and his family gathered in their home and milled about in silence, unsure of the time to come. It seemed they all had different ideas. His mother wanted to flee to Holodrum or Labrynna. His grandfather wanted to go out fighting or to join up with the stragglers, as a knight should. And Adagio? Well, he still wanted to travel. As it turned out, his family would be splitting up, possibly for good. His grandmother and mother were making a flight for Holodrum and his grandfather eventually decided to make his last stand in their home and provide assistance to the community they'd always been a part of.
Adagio, however, was finally on the road. His family had protested, but eventually gave in. His grandfather, surprisingly, had been the most encouraging, saying that in the new world, it was important Adagio find his way. His family divied up what they could for each of their journeys, but Adagio finally came into inheritance: his wayward father's sword. His mother revealed it to him, pulling it from a crawlspace Adagio had never known existed. The once fine, silvered blade had grown dull and the magic in the steel had faded. But it was his, his birthright. Strapping it to his side, he was ready to set out on the road, barely a man.
But before he could go, Adagio had one last person to see: Chasse. He went to her, trying once again to convince her to come with him. And once again, she refused him, this time with tears in her eyes and fear in her heart. The new world was a scary place, she said, and she wished that he would stick around. But Adagio would not, he could not, the desire to travel was like a fire in his soles, a fire in his soul. He needed to see the world while it was still worth seeing. So, Adagio and Chasse parted ways. Adagio left behind everything he ever knew.
And so, began his path over the next few years, making his way through darkness. And that brought him to where he stands today: still on the precipice of darkness, tempting fate, and just trying to see the world.
APPEARANCE
HEIGHT: 5'6''
WEIGHT: 118 lbs.
APPEARANCE DESCRIPTION:
Adagio is a lithe young man, slim and of a modest height. Adagio is naturally pale of skin and prone to burning if he spends too much time in the sun, as he is wont to do these days. His skin stands in stark contrast to his eyes and hair: dark hair and dark eyes. His black hair is long and often falls into his pale face, obscuring eyes that are a slight shade of red. He has no noticeable scars or marring.
Adagio is dressed for the road. He often dresses in wanderer's wear: long shirts and pants with a cloak that can be drawn tight around his body for warmth against the cold or to keep out the wind and dust from the road. As such, it is not uncommon to find this young man covered in dust and dirt. Believe it or not, though, Adagio actually tries to take care of his appearance. When he can, he goes to lengths to keep his hair and clothes in decent appearance.
