PERSONALITY
Scheherazade-- or simply Azad-- was born with a powerful desire for exploration. Although his polite and quiet demeanor around strangers may suggest otherwise, the young rito lives for the thrill of adventure and new discoveries. When resting or passing the time during travel, he can most likely be found with his nose in a book, feeding that thirst for exploration with his mind. His penchant for reading has nurtured Azad into a very sensible and knowledgeable individual. It has also, however, kept him from being the kind of social and outgoing rito the rest of his family is. Never having been one for crowds, Azad is used to his privacy and depending on himself for everything. The loneliness that comes with such an existence is only now catching up to him.
The black-haired fledgling may not have the longest list of friends, but he has proven on more than one occasion that his heart is of noble intent and he is always open to helping individuals of similar make. He doesn't like violence and will take many measures to quell it whenever it is near, but he has also accepted the fact that it is part of the world they live in. As such, he does not bear his sword with guilt. For, if he can use it to protect the innocent and fend off evil, he will. The belief that the 'path of most resistance, yields the greater reward' bears true to the rito when it comes to the challenge of changing a dark heart as opposed to destroying it. He is a great believer in second chances and, although many may call him gullible for it, Azad stubbornly keeps true to his moral compass.
These days, Azad struggles to find meaning in his life. As such, he travels far and wide searching for it. He obsesses over stories and painstakingly wonders what his will be-- or whether he will simply be a footnote in the history of the realms. Although he likely wouldn't admit it or even actively pursue it, the idea of becoming a legend and reaping the glory that comes with it has always been in the back of his mind. The rito wants to leave a legacy behind. If not for him, then for his long deceased older brother. He feels like he owes his sibling that much, and is determined to continue trying to live up to said sibling's example. And that of their mother, as well. His strongest drive is for him to be worthy of his family, first and foremost. Then use that worth to earn a place in the history books for them.

HISTORY
Born in the cliffside roost of Sanma, overlooking the Zora Seas, Scheherazade was raised by a loving and complete family for the first part of his childhood. His family was well-regarded by the entire tribe. In particular, his mother Basali and her eldest son Topohura were known to the tribe as local heroes. His father Herazad, although not a hero, was the popular captain of the ship Seaquill and brought in many a haul of fish and other goods for the village. He had convinced Basali to marry him and start a family thirteen years prior to Azad's birth. Upon doing so, she had abandoned her post as apprentice to one of the royal archer's of Labrynna and moved to Sanma, giving birth to Topohura months after arriving. Her skills with a bow were, undoubtedly, unmatched in the region they called home. She fought off many a marauding bandit and hungry monster. As Topohura grew older, she taught him her ways, too.
Little Scheherazade would mimic his dear mother and older brother from the very moment he could walk. When they refused to let him handle a bow or sword at such a young age, he would instead bury his nose in a book and read tales about great heroes and terrifying villains. Sometimes, the cargo on his father's ship wasn't limited to goods or food for the village. Sometimes, the young rito would meet brave warriors and adventurers from many different walks of life. Until he was old enough to train with his mother and Topohura, these were the best days of Azad's childhood-- listening to the riveting tales of these visitors from faraway lands, recording them all to memory and dreaming of one day exploring his own adventures. Even when he would begin his training with mother and brother, the young fledgling would still return to meet (or, at least, shyly stalk) every stranger that came to their port.
Scheherazade was only fourteen years old when his mother was summoned by a fairy from the forest. Headed to thwart a cataclysm that would have wiped their little roost off the map, the woman would never return again. As it was, however, no cataclysm ended up striking their village. Hailed as a hero for all time, the rito of Sanma built a shrine in her honor. But the shrine was certainly not enough to make up for the loss Azad and Topohura had to endure. While Azad was too young and cowardly to go out and search for her, Topohura was old enough to gather the materials he needed on his own and venture off despite the pleading of his father to stay. Months would pass. And, unfortunately, Topohura never returned either. He was only twenty-six years old. Devastated by the loss of them, Azad and his father were changed forever. Azad, in particular, closed himself off from everybody and preferred training and reading to playing and conversation.
Years would pass. The sharp pain that had been his mother and brother's loss became a dull pulse-- always there, but manageable. He convinced himself they had both passed on as heroes. Exactly what they had wanted to be. And questioned whether he wanted to be that, too. Or whether he was even worthy of it. There were times where he would blame himself for not trying harder as a kid to stop the two from leaving. There were also times where he channeled their example and protected his fellow tribesmen and women. He lived alone with his father during those years, helping him on the Seaquill and traveling for goods and food to bring back. They mostly did runs to the Crescent Islands, but sometimes sailed beyond to the ports of Hyrule and Holodrum. It was times like those that a spark of the bright kid he once was would return. That those sweet memories of years past would fill his mind like warm sunshine on the cold surface of skin.
He suddenly realized that the life he was living wasn't living. Just a monotonous crawl day after day, keeping away bad thoughts about what had happened and keeping himself busy in books and work. He wanted more. In fact, he craved it. So, much to the latter's conflicted emotion, Scheherazade packed a bag and joined his father on a trip to Hyrule. Once they reached the port there, however, Azad would not return. He had never explored the realm beyond the strip of shore they had landed on. But he had heard it was in turmoil for quite a while now. And, if he wanted to live up to the legacy of his mother and older brother and make the most of his life as they would want him to, he figured there was no better place for it. Adventure called. Heroism was on the line. He would make them proud and ensure their names carried on as legends together. It was time their book was made.
APPEARANCE
Scheherazade stands at five feet and eleven inches and weighs approximately one hundred and ninety seven pounds. He has medium length black hair that he typically keeps well combed and parted away from his brilliant amber eyes. His body type is slim and he has fair peach-colored skin. Typically garbed in a red and white tunic covered with patches of green foliage on its back, the rito tends to dress rather lightly in order to support his ability to fly easier. He wears a brown leather vest beneath his tunic and dark under top beneath that. His gloves are boiled leather covering soft wool, the leather protecting the top of his forearms while the wool keeps his hands warm. Should he need to, the sleeves of Azad's under top shirt are split so that his wings can emerge from the sides at a moment's notice. The feathers on said wings are a brilliant pattern of white and green.
He wears leather bands around his waist that carry leather pouches. His trousers are dark and tightly knit, coated with natural asphalt to make them resistant to the salty sea spray of ship travel. His boots are filled with warm wool, and decorated with feathers from rare and exotic birds at their collar. In addition to the leather straps around his waist, Azad also carries a long and impressive black sheath trimmed with gold thread. Inside said sheath resides his mother's katana blade. The blade may seem old at first glance, but it is incredibly sharp and well maintained. Its somewhat curved handle is strapped with tightly wound white cloth and its guard is squared and golden. On it, rito symbols are inscribed. It is to tell the mysterious origins of his tribe's legacy.
