He couldn't handle it. The screaming, Perseus begging to die, and now Gael was running for his life. Eleazar laughed at what unfolded, and he felt as though he was slipping away from reality. Things were getting too real. His sister could very well have been dead this whole time.
But just as he went to bring himself back in check, a knife whipped past his periferral and landed just beneath Gael's neck. His eyes widened as the prince slumped to the floor, screaming and crying in pain.
He froze again. This wasn't how this was supposed to go. This could have all been avoided if he had just listened! No one had to die! His attention was brought back to Eleazar, who requested that one of them put Gael to rest.
But he couldn't! Surely he could be saved, right? There had to be a way. This couldn't be it. Slowly he approached the prince, hands shaking as he looked over the blood that poured from the wound. He gulped, never feeling such hesitation in battle before in his life. He was always the gallant prince who won battles going solo.
Now, he couldn't even put a dear friend out of his misery. He could barely believe he even offered him up in the first place. It was only a bluff. It was only meant to be a bluff!
But now this was on him. It was his fault. He fell to his knees, slowly bringing Gael up into his lap and looking at him carefully with fearful eyes. "This wasn't supposed to happen," he admitted carefully. "I'm so, so sorry..."
He couldn't do it. But he had to. Taking the blade from Gael's side, he gulped again, putting it to Gael's neck and closing his eyes. "May the goddesses look upon you with grace and serenity."
With a gentle flick, the sharpened blade skid across Gael's neck, slicing it open to allow for a quick, clean death. The blade fell from his hands as they shook and the blood poured over his britches. He turned to Perseus with tears welled in his eyes, and then to Eleazar.
"We played your damn game. Now give me back my sister!"
And now one of them was gone for good. One less person wo worry about in the longrun, and although he was disappointed he never got to have his one on one fight, he was satisfied with the outcome. He won. He was superior. Surely his mother would see now what a foolish mistake her late husband had made with casting him out.
"As promised, I will have your sister fetched out. Don't you worry, she'll be here any moment..." he said, straightening himself in the chair and slamming his feet to the dusty floor. Getting up from the seat, he walked toward a locked door, waiting carefully by it as he then looked back to Gael's body.
"Send him out with you as well. Don't need his body stinking up the place, we have enough of those outside," he rolled his eyes, gestering his hand to push him away.
A knock came on the door to which Eleazar pulled out a key, opening it quickly. Rushed into his arms was the girl, along with her Sheikah guard. Quickly, he pushed them from his own grasp and onto the floor, allowing them free roam to go back to the others.
"Go. I'm done with you. They've had their meals so they're well fed, but I can't stop you from feeding them anymore. They might get fat though," he sighed.
He waited by the door carefully, allowing for them to leave as they wished. He smiled very faintly, excited to see what they had yet to know.
Garrett stumbled to the ground, but waited to make sure that Kura was okay. He breathed out in relief that rescue had come for them, but went pale as he saw Gael's body by the doorway. "What... what happened?" he murmured to himself quietly. He got up quickly and went to assist Artemis with carrying his body out the doorway. A carriage would be waiting for them outside.

You know me all too well
And I can't suppress the memories
You're gone and I can tell
That I've lost more than you'll ever see
It all happened so fast, but as his pleading to be killed had come to a stop, he had turned to notice the screaming Gael left behind as he fell to the floor, dying slowly. He was horrified by the sight, but Artemis stepped up hesitantly to put him out of his misery, saying a prayer for him before he was then laid to rest.
A new burning hatred sat with Perseus as he looked to the tyrant who seemed pleased with himself. Artemis demanded his sister, and as he did so, Eleazar had gotten up from his seat and quickly head for the doorway which led to the rest of the mansion. The door opened quickly, and two figures were thrown out across the floor.
One of them was Kura, and Perseus took immediate familiarity to her ginger hair. He swept in quickly, taking her in his arms and hugging her tightly. "It's okay. We're going home. He can't hurt you. Are you okay?" He felt bad for badgering her with words, but he didn't know what else to say or do.
Helping her up, he waited to see if she was strong enough to move on her own, but offered his support as they would go to the carriage. He tried to distract her while Artemis and Garrett handled Gael's body, waiting for them to exit before he then guided Kura outside as well.

It was only the two of them.
Only she and Garrett remained in the cold and damp coffin, remnants of blood and bone scattered around the stone flooring. They had taken every single one of them; her parting memory of Mal was still fresh in her mind, and the sound of her screams still echoed in her head as she shivered in the corner. She was exhausted, mentally and physically, as the fatigue piled onto the traumatic experience of seeing everyone pulled out one by one. She didn't sleep one wink over the few days spent in his prison, dark circles not hesitating to form underneath her eyelids as she waited; honestly she felt like a death sentence was held over her, but her expiration date was unspecified.
A routine water check was shortly followed by the appearance of two shiekah. These deformed beings belonging to Eleazars personal guard, and she knew it was time to say goodbye. She reached for Garretts hand, her grip was light but stern as she tried to intertwine her fingers with his for support. She felt like crying, but she was unable to, and could only stare ahead as they were escorted up a set of stars and down a hall.
She didn't question it, the thought never crossing her mind, until she found herself being shoved into the coldest grasp she ever felt. It was his hands. Looking up, eyes wide with horror, as her mask of courage had been broken days ago. Golden eyes haunted her, and she now lived that nightmare. Mouth open she desired to scream, but no sound left her lips and she was quickly pushed aside like some forgotten toy. She fell to the ground, breath quickened as she looked around in panic.
Where she expected death, she soon felt the same warm embrace she had grown so familiar with.
"Perseus!" Kura cried out, her arms wrapping around his shoulders as she buried her face into the crevice of his neck. Now she cried, her horror and fright replaced with comfort and relief as he spoke to her. She had no words, her lips quivering as she struggled to breathe and move due to her lack of stamina. "I was so scared."
They had come for her. The only she could think about now was being far far away from Eleazar's clutches, and that seemed to be a dream come true as Percy helped her into a carriage outside.

The two of them made haste with getting Gael's body out of view from where Kura and Percy were. Artemis didn't bother asking anymore questions about the relationship; it wasn't the time. They just had to get out while Eleazar was still feeling merciful.
They lost so many troops. Zelda would be awoken to a rude greeting of 'Eleazar killed over half of our guild, your hero's useless, and Kura's sheikah was killed in battle!' at some point, and all Artemis could assume was that this was all his fault.
He should of called back the troops when he had the chance. This was on his hands.
They hurried to the carriage, wrapping the hylian's body in a thick cloak and putting him in a separate compartment from where the others would be.
It'd be a long ride home to the camp.
They didn't stop. They didn't want to. The further they got away, the better they felt, even if the wound was still fresh. When they had finally made their way back to the wooded encampment, Artemis did what he could to make sure that soldiers would remove Gael's body discreetly and allow for information to spread back to the Capitals, as well as the sea Zora. They'd keep him safe until they would retrieve him for a burial.
Kura was situated to rest in Percy's quarters until it was time for their long journey back to the Hylian Ruins. Waiting outside the curtains of the small foyer, the prince took a deep breath, relieved that she was safe, but destraught that things had gotten to this point.
Slowly, he entered, Percy sat upon a small chair and a desk, where he was writing the letters needed to alert of Gael's death.

You know me all too well
And I can't suppress the memories
You're gone and I can tell
That I've lost more than you'll ever see
The parchment was blank. For the life of him, Perseus could come to no words with how to alert the other leaders of their loss. Especially the poor mother of Gael whom expected him home before the night ended.
Sunset rolled in like a crimson storm as clouds billowed beyond the trees, sending faded sunlight in every direction of the lush thicket. Light escaped from the mesh curtains of the royal tent, and he was feeling the exhaustion slowly seep in.
Turning, or almost turning, was quite exhausting for one human. Still, he had to be there for Kura, hoping that perhaps the torture had not been too much. He didn't want to ask. He didn't want her to think about it, and all he could do now was rest assured she was safe.
When Artemis had entered the tent, he didn't turn, ink still in his quill as it pressed down against the paper. He had to write something, damn it. But it was no use, and he sighed, looking down and then turning to Kura to see what her response would be.
"She'll be okay. I'd like you to consider her coming back to the castle wit hme where she'll get proper medical care. A full inspection is in order," he nodded, looking to Artemis carefully. He then turned to Kura. "Please come with me. It's in your health's best interest."

Compared to her time spent trapped in Symmetry City, the ride to the encampment was quite short. She had actually slept for a majority of the ride, propping her head against Percy's shoulder and finally finding the peace to rest. Upon arrival, she was immediately ushered into his tent, sitting up on the cot with an array of cloth draped over her. Despite that, she still felt really cold, and her heart was racing fast.
Dark blue eyes watched him as she sat there, her body feeling heavier by the minute as Artemis entered the tent. His gaze met hers, and was returned with a meek smile as he questioned her condition. Before she could part her lips to give an answer, Perseus spoke up, expressing his concern for her to which she had no choice but to agree.
"Of course," she muttered, her voice a bit weak. She gave her best smile pulling the wool blanket closer to her core. Her face was a bright red color, and she was sweating hard, but she still felt so cold. Perhaps being in that chilly underground environment had given her a fever.
"Artemis can I have some water?" she asked, her throat dry and the sensation of dehydration making her limbs feel weighted. Stress and Trauma may have finally been starting to catch up to her now that she was relaxed.

OUR DESTINY FALLS UPON GODS
WE'RE NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN
ALL PIECES OF MACHINERY COGS
I'VE LOST ALL BUT MY CLOSEST FRIENDS
She looked weakened, but perhaps it was from the stress and lack of nutrients while she was captured. He didn't know how long it had been - days surely, without even an ounce of suspicion that something had gone wrong.
At least now she was safe, and back with her family. All that was left was for Zelda to wake up. But Eleazar's words still haunted him in the back of his mind. Had Zelda truly not cared for the crown? Was she wasting its potential?
He couldn't think like that. It was her sister, and she knew her duty to this land. He just wondered how he would break the news of their failure to her once she wakes...
"Water?" he mused for a moment before turning to the small table. "Of course."
He strode quickly to pour the vase of water into a small challace. Taking it in his hands, he turned back to Kura and sat it next to her on the end table. He smiled sheepishly, hoping things would return to normal soon.
"Once Zelda wakes and Elinkar is back on his feet, I'm sure we'll never worry of such awful conditions again."

He hadn't noticed before, but his beloved's face was flushed in exhaustion - sweating and shivering as though she had caught the plague. He had seen people wither away like this before, and it didn't seem like the normal run of the mill fatigue from being captured.
He felt his stomach knot into a ball as he tried to hide the concern that stuck to his face like fresh dew to grass. He breathed in slowly. Then out. He set the pen down on the table before moving up from his seat and positioned himself next to Kura, looking over her flesh carefully.
He put a hand over her forehead, feeling the persperation cascade like rain drenching over her skin. "Kura..." he murmured. Artemis had poured a challace of water for her and brought it close to the table and Perseus then brought it to her hands.
"You're so warm, are you sure you're okay? He didn't hurt you did he?"

The weight of his hand against her forehead felt strange, like it wasn't there at all and all she could sense was the pressure he applied. Heavy eyelids barely lifted, her eyes raising to set on his, but she found it hard to keep them open at all. To say that she felt exhausted would be an understatement.
Reaching for the goblet that Artemis had brought, the strength in her fingers faltered, the sound of the metal clashing against the ground with a dull thud as she had pushed it off the edge. "Oh," she murmured, taking a second to actually register that she had dropped it. Her hand retracted raising to rest against her upper chest, the taste of iron filling her mouth. This body was not her own; it felt heavy and painful, her stomach began to twist and knot, her lungs expanding and deflating rapidly despite the sensation of being crushed.
He didn't do anything to her, he had barely even touched her, just a fleeting moment that she was in his grasp before he threw her away like trash; but there was something wrong and she couldn't even tell them as she found herself unable to talk, there was only the burning pain in her throat. She needed water.
She slid off the cot, her legs wobbly as she tried to stand, her mind fuzzy as she attempted to hold her balance before stumbling forward. Two hands found themselves wrapped around the vase of water as she lifted it and pressed it to her lips. Around her cheeks and down her neck remnants of the fluid fell as she downed it, but it was not enough.
On top of that, she felt the desire to retch, her abdomen pulsing in pain as she hunched over with arms crossed over her body. Glancing up at the two men in front of her, blue eyes screamed out, 'Help me.'

OUR FATE WAS CHOSEN BY THE GODS
The prince's eyes grew incredibly small. He felt his chest tighten as he watched the glass slip through Kura's fingers. He went to clean it up immediately, but froze in place when Kura attempted to reach the pitcher, but fell to the floor.
She was drenched in sweat. She was unable to function properly as she hugged herself, the pitcher falling beside her. "Kura!" he breathed out desperately.
He turned to Perseus desperately, before looking around for some kind of help. "Garrett. We need Garrett. WE NEED A DOCTOR!" his words roared from his lips with thunder and exhaustion. He flashed around the corner as he disappeared behind the tent curtain, trailing the torch lit path until he made way to their medical tent.
"Please! Please! Kura is very ill! Sound the alarms! She's losing time!" he screamed out, unable to breathe. He coughed from the strain, running a nervous hand over his forehead as he attempted to control his breathing.
The thoughts were accelerating inside his head. He wanted them to slow so he could breathe but they wouldn't. His breaths came in gasps, and for a moment he thought he would pass out. His heart hammered inside his chest like it belonged to a rabbit running for its skin. He needed to go back to her.
There, doctors rushed with him as he whipped back into the tent, looking to Kura desperately so he could try and aleviate her pain. There had to be something they could do! Some kind of antedote...
"Kura, breathe! You'll be okay!" Artemis tried to assure her... but he could barely assure himself. He cradled her in his arms carefully as doctors huddled around them, feeling her flesh as it burned with a feverous storm.

He had no idea what happened. It was as though he zoned out as the challace slipped through the princess's fingers. He blinked a few times, looking down at the spilled water as Artemis went to tend to it abruptly, but wasn't registering how ill Kura truly was until it was too late.
She was on the floor suddenly, hugging herself as she cried for help, and Artemis was in a complete mode of panic as he began screaming for assistance and looked to the King nervously. He had no idea how to react himself.
His fingers trembled as they went to brush against Kura's skin, tipping her chin to look at him as he tended to her anxiety as best as he could. "It's okay, Kura. I'm here. Artemis will be back with help soon."
He had to stay calm for her sake, but he already knew what was happening. It must have been something Eleazar planned, or perhaps he knew she was on her last leg. He watched the curtains carefully for Artemis's return, but the silence around them was deafening. He couldn't breathe. And in the distance he began to hear the scuttling of feet.
Artemis, followed by doctors rushed to the scene, as Basil went in to try and identify what was happening. His eyes grew small. "What has she eaten? Anything since she's been back?" Perseus shrugged, looking around carefully for the pitcher of water. "Only the water. That's it. I don't know what she had in the dungeon!"
Basil knew though. He'd seen this before, with other wounded men from Symmetry City. Biological warfare. A rare algae that zora are immune to, but deadly if consumed in high quantities of water....
And it was too late. "There's... there's not much we can do, your highness. We can alleviate her pain, but there's not much time..."
"That isn't true, and you know it! I order you to do something!" Percy demanded as he watched the young woman gently laid in Artemis's arms. "You're telling me that the best doctors on the scene here can't do anything?!"
He knew it was true, but he wanted to deny it.
"The medical pods left by the Sheikah council are our only options if we want her to live! But... she'll remain in stasis. It's hardly a way to survive."
Percy looked down at Kura desperately, and then to Artemis, who was still in panic. "What can we do? Artemis, please tell me there's something else."

Her vision already blurred as she came in and out of consciousness. Words spoken from both Perseus and Artemis were unable to reach her ears, leaving only the sound of silence as she kept her hands pressed to her abdomen. It burned, it all burned and it felt like she was on fire, but her skin was cold and goosebumps crawled over her skin. She felt the weight and warmth of his grasp, clouded and milky eyes raising to glance at her brother. From under his touch she could sense his heartbeat as it raced, and despite the amount of pain, it was calming.
Kura's reaction to this was surreal; she knew she was dying, that much was a given. From the look on everyone's faces there was no doubt this was true. It would be a lie if she didn't say she was scared, but at the time she came to accept it. She wanted to raise her voice, speak out to her brother and Percy to soothe their hearts. Eyes welled up, the tickling sensation of her tears leaving a wet trail as they slowly fell. Unable to come to words her hands instead found a home, one resting on Artemis's cheek, and the other grasping for her lovers hand. She needed to reassure them.
That was so like her, to think about their pain and their well being above her own.
Rapid breaths soon slowed, the swift intake of air no longer made a sound as she quit trying. Thinking back on to everything she had done, her only regret was that she wouldn't be there to see her sisters smile as she woke to find that her hero had returned. That, was the one thing she wanted more than anything, and was why she worked so hard these past four years. She had even been so silly as to proclaim this out loud in front of Garrett at the forest temple. She was determined to see her sister's happiness, even if it killed her in the end.
Eyes closed and limbs fell as the remaining amount of her strength left and her body slept.

OUR FATE WAS CHOSEN BY THE GODS
"Artemis, please tell me there's something else."
The words faded into oblivion as Kura's body became heavy in his arms. He just stared down at her, the yelling between doctors and Perseus blurring out into white noise. His eyes locked onto hers, begging for her to hold on for as long as she could, but he could see her slowly fade away.
"Shut up," Artemis murmured to those yelling around him. "Shut up! Can't you see she's suffering? We have to actually do some--"
He stopped as her hand met his cheek. In the moment they exchanged gazes, he could feel her leaving from this world, and he felt his chest begin to collapse. "SOMEONE GET THE GODDESS DAMNED STASIS POD!"
Sheikah rushed to the seen immediately, pressing themselves against the poor girl as they rushed to remove her from the scene. Practically pulling her from Artemis's arms, they removed her from the tent and made way to the medical area, where she was then pressed into a small bed of water.
Artemis ran after them, hopeful that they could revive her to full health. One sister was already on the brink of death. He didn't need two to go. "Will this save her?" he kept asking over and over.
Garrett looked at him anxiously, before looking down into the pod. "It will only suspend her in her final moments just before death. She's alive... but that's it."

You know me all too well
And I can't suppress the memories
You're gone and I can tell
That I've lost more than you'll ever see
Perseus choked. His watery eyes enlarged and the hairs on the nape of his neck bristled. He shivered slightly - a coldness draping across his skin. Slow and deliberate, life was slowly fading from his lover's eyes. He tried to scream, but the inside of his mouth lacked any moisture and a croak was all that issued from his gape. Finally, Artemis did for him.
He couldn't hold it in much longer. As Sheikah rushed to pull her away, he fell to his knees and stumbled to keep balance as he let out a deafening howl in anguish. He was crawling--then walking--then sprinting after the Sheikah.
Even with the adrenaline his feet slowed and he felt the vomit rise in his throat. He looked over her stiffened body that was laid to rest in the pod before it was closed. In staggering exhaustion he approached her. There had to be something more he could do, but a small crumpled paper was visible in the neck of her shirt. He pulled it out carefully, opening it shakily.
You should have played by my rules.
He did this. This was Eleazar's fault. Perseus felt the panic begin like a cluster of bubbles popping in his abdomen. Tension grew in his face and limbs, his mind replaying the moments before her death. His breathing became more rapid, more shallow. He pulled himself over the pod, onto Kura's lifeless body. No breathing. He began pounding his hands into her chest, over. And over.
Pound. Pound. Pound. Now breathe. No answer. His heart was racing with every press into her chest. Again - no answer. Again - no answer. Perseus's eyes scanned over her body and the panic grew. It wasn't supposed to end like this. It wasn't supposed to be like this. It wasn't supposed to fucking be like this.
Hee refused to stop though - she had to be alive. Even if he knew deep down she wasn't, he'd never forgive himself if he didn't put as much effort into saving her as possible. The Sheikah began pulling at him in a panic, begging for him to remove himself so they could close the pod. If they waited any longer she would truly be gone forever.
Stumbling from the pod, he let out ragged breaths and turned to Artemis with fire in his eyes. "We go to war. We light that bloody castle in flames, and I'll let every last one of my men give their lives to avenge her."
