or once, his mind was clear, sharp, with a primary focus on what he was doing. The clarity scared him, but what scared him more was how Zelda was. He had heard mention of her being conscious, but lost track of the time while trying to search for the origin of that mysterious voice. But this, this was so much more important.
The sounds of his running caught the attention of others, mostly servants going about their business, but they had little time to get out of his way before he barreled past them, sliding around the corner to Zelda's quarters. There was no thought, no hesitation, as he pulled on the latch of her door, opening it.
And in the moment that he looked at her, he was frightened.
He hadn't seen her, the actual her, in four years, and all the memories of having her in reach, only to be an illusion, flashed before his eyes. Regardless, his hand reached out, and he grit his teeth as it clenched into a fist, falling at his side.
"Zelda."
She was upon her bed, and for a brief moment he had the concern that something had happened, but he saw her breath rise in her body, and went over to her. The bed sank under his weight as he held a hand over her, unsure about touching her, before placing a comforting palm on her side. His thumb gently rubbed a circle against her, and he tried to speak, but words lost him. He struggled for a second with what to say, before choking out a response.

uch sudden words were enough to spook the Hero, and silver steel danced in the moonlight as he took a defensive step back when the entity appeared before her.
A Twili.
He point leveled with her heart, not with intent to attack, but protect, but she began speaking to him, and he felt his arm lower slightly. Her words were... Odd. As if they knew each other. As if...
Long lived.
He lowered his sword, dropping his arm, and took a slow step forward. In a strange way, she felt familiar to him, but he couldn't place why. Still, the sword spirit had mentioned an old friend. Maybe she was this.
"You're the intruder I sensed, I take it. When you say long-lived, you don't mean-"
He stopped, frowning, and sighed as he sheathed his sword, arms crossing. In the moonlight, he looked over her once again, eyes flitting from low to high, and he raised an eyebrow at her. She was different than a lot of the Twili that he had met in the past, as few as they were. She was much more regal, much in the way Zelda was when in her meetings. Royalty, of some sort. Royalty like-
His breath caught as it hit him. When Zelda was looking for stories of the Legendary Hero before he was declared to be him, she had him research things, stories of old, and he had come across a dusty tome recounting a story. The Ballad of Twilight was its name, and it mentioned the hero having traveled with a Twili companion, a Twilight Princess. And her name was-
A friend.
He pushed the spirit's thoughts back, rubbing his head, then looked up to the Twili.
"I don't know you, and don't know you're telling me the truth when you claim you are who you are. Explain to me why a Twili Princess would be in our realm at this hour of night, and why I should believe you?"

ontrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham.

Much had been done that day, and when it was all over, Link had taken about as much of other Hylians as he could.
He told Zelda his intentions of going for a walk, and though she insisted he take a guard or two, he refused, instead belting his sword at his hip. It still felt wrong, but it was growing on him. The spirit of the Master Blade had spoken to him briefly, but he heard nothing from it, no fragmented, cryptic words given to him since. Honestly, he didn't mind.
It was nice to have a quiet day.
The night was relaxing, for once. Crickets played their low serenade as he walked out of the gates of the encampment, hands in his pockets, and he just took the time to look around, at the moon, and the stars.
Master...
He was reminded how greatful he was now that he was back. He had missed the moon.
Master!
With a flinch, he looked around, only to realize the source of the voice was in his head. The spirit again. With a sigh, he opened himself up to what it had to say, curiosity showing through their connection.
An intruder... A friend...
His eyes widened, and almost by reflex, his hand went to his sword, head on a swivel. The spirit was aware of so much more than it should be, but it had always proven right. He began to walk a slow patrol around the camp, still resting his hand on the pommel of his blade, keeping an eye out for anything suspicious. As he walked further towards the treeline, the hairs on his neck prickled, and he swore he had heard somebody take a breath. Metal slid against metal as he drew his sword slightly, calling out.
"Who's there? Show yourself?"
An old friend... Greet her...
Once again, the spirit caught him off guard, but he slid the inch of exposed steel back into the sheath, and stepped into the treeline. It was an ancient copse, the gnarled roots twisted over countless years, the trees great. He pushed aside a canopy of moss as he stepped further into it, and his eyes came across a large, dying tree. It had passed its prime, but regardless, it still was impressively large. But he took no time to admire it, instead listening closely.

er voice rose, panic and anger rising in a time of need, but she chose to direct it towards him. In all honesty, he has seen this coming, but it made it hurt no less. His body tensed, and he looked over her shoulder, pain in his eyes, and let emotion overtake him.
“What is there to talk about, Zelda? I’ve witnessed horrors that nobody should ever have to see, I’ve heard secrets I can’t tell anybody, I have watched your death and the death of all our loved ones again… And again… And again… And you expect me to just want to talk about it? Fine, I will!”
He turned to her, crossing the distance between them, and suddenly, to him, there was no walls closing in, no ruins, no world to worry about, but only her. Tears fell down his cheeks, leaving trails in the dust from his fall that caked his face, and he found himself grabbing the front of her top, pulling her nose to nose with him. His voice was a hoarse whisper as he spoke to her, shaky and slow.
“Every night, when they were done with me, I prayed to the Goddesses that locked me there, that you would coming for me. Countless prayers to someone who wouldn’t listen. Imagine how ironic that looked to all the enemies of my past selves, Zelda. Mocked, tortured, beaten and battered by all of them out of revenge, always pushed to the edge and left begging for the Goddesses. They wanted to make me stop begging for salvation, and beg for death instead, but the thought of you stopped me from crossing that line. I endured so much waiting for you, and you came. But they still come to me, in nightmares, and I can’t let you see me like this.”
He let her go, and stepped back, taking a breath before looking up to her. His look was weary and hopeless, but she was all he had eyes for right now.
“I didn’t talk about it because you shouldn’t have to experience the horrors they made me suffer. You were my only drive to live, and a lot of me was left back in the Sacred Realm. I’m not even sure I can be the hero you want me to be anymore. I have no Triforce, no master Sword, nothing that gives me the title. All I have now is shame, and you.”
The grinding of stone caught his attention finally, and he looked to see the room closing in further. With a sigh, he looked around, for anything.
“And if we don’t get this cleared up between us, all I’m going to have left is shame. So we’ll do this later, Zelda. My Zelda always thought with a level head, and you’re my Zelda still. So get it together, and let’s figure this out!”

e couldn’t hold much longer, he knew that his best bet was to fall and hope he would land how he wanted to. Fortunately, Zelda did him a favor in lighting up the floor below them, so with a couple deep breaths, he let go. He felt jerked as he entered free fall, and it lasted both too long and too little. His feet hit floor with a lurch, but instinct told him to do as he was taught, and roll when he hit the floor.
When he was back on his feet, he heard Zelda speak, and froze in place, looking to her. Close in? Did she mean the walls? Panic coursed through him again, panic which he tried so hard to force down.
“Close in… We haven’t triggered the trap fully yet, it seems, so we need to be careful. Is there anything to stop it? Look for a switch, or a- a-“
He stuttered and stopped when he saw the bones, fragments of femurs, and skulls, and spines, and he took another shaking breath.
Hyrule burning. Men, women, and children trapped in their homes, the only things left of them to burn white bones and marrow. His friends, family, and subjects all dead because he had failed. And Majora laughed when showing him all this.
“This is the fate Hyrule would have befallen had the Goddesses not intervened. Truly you were given a blessing, no? The world is better off without you.
He let out a choked sound as he held his hand, the pressure against his forehead snapping him back to reality, and he turned to Zelda, looking around frantically.
“There has to be something, a panel, or a lever, or a…”
He paused when he saw the riddle, reading over it several times before looking to his left and right once again.
“We need to let something in to stop it? Multiple things? Feel and cling? What do we- Wait.”
He held out his own hand, and his own orb of magic appeared in his hand, one of flame that flickered and soothed him. It was an ironic bastardization of the Goddess’ magic being employed once again by the Hero. He began to walk along the walls, looking for any sign of a solution to the riddle.
“Feel and cling? What do we feel? Cling to what? I don’t see anything to touch. This is- It’s-“
Frustration consumed him, and Zelda heard his fist hit the wall as he let out an unpleased grunt, breathing heavily.
“You were always the smart one, Zelda! You’re Wisdom, so give me a hand, before we both die down here!”

elda's words horrified him, but her touch grounded him in the moment, and suddenly, for a moment, the fear rushed away. For the first time since his return from the Sacred Realm, he met her eyes, and he saw her concern, her devotion to him. He saw the care that the Princess had for him, and he was once again horrified.
But this time, he resolved that he would not die.
Still, it was hard to look into her eyes, and instead, he shifted his focus to the dungeon entrance, leaning down to pick up his sword. It was sheathed in its scabbard, and he took a deep breath, putting on the most confident facade he could muster.
"It's just a dungeon, how bad can it be?"
He wasn't even convincing himself.
His first few steps into the dungeon brought back memories of his former quests, footsteps echoing through the abandoned structure. There was dust everywhere, and it was dark. He instinctively found himself calling on the power of his sword, but then remembered what weapon he was holding.
His sigh of disappointment was interrupted as a scurrying rat spooked him, and his breath caught as he sidestepped to avoid it.
He knew he was in trouble when the pressure plate sank under his weight. The floor began shifting under their feet, and his fear turned to pure survival instinct. But he couldn't stop himself from sliding, as the floor opened from under him, and soon he found himself falling. His hand flailed out, hoping for something, and grabbed an out-jutting rock on the side of the wall. His shoulder screamed in protest, but he grit his teeth, bearing through the pain, and held on, looking around.

[attr="class","TheHandmaiden"]here was an ancient feeling about the ruins, their carved details a testament to a time long passed. A time where the Hero was probably significant. Already, the symbol of that what they had lost taunted him, and he looked away as the Triforce glared down at him.
"Quit mocking me."
He was practically saying it to himself, but it was quiet enough that Zelda could hear it from him. He watched from the corner of his eye as she investigated, and when she came to the pressure plates, she noted her observation. With a nod, he stood on the other, and it sank under his weight. With that, the gate opened entirely, and he looked in, eyes squinting.
Something about it frightened him. He had been though this all before, why was it such a problem now?
Unconsciously, he drew his sword, the grip the wrong size in his hand, and took a few hesitant steps forward. He wanted to build on that glimmer of Courage, the shards of bravery he had collected. But it was hard. Just looking into the dark brought memories of blood and torture and laughter. Sickly sweet laughter echoing around him. Flashes of red, being unable to close his eyes, the lash of metal against his back-
The sword clanged as he dropped it, stepping back, and his eyes were wide in panic.
"I-I can't go back. Something's going to take me back."
His panic was brief, but intense. His breaths sharpened, and he stood frozen, until a shake ran through him and he took a deep breath, shaking with fear. He shook his head as he caught his breath, and calmed down slowly, looking away from Zelda. He felt weak. He hated it.

ink's look was dull as he dismounted from his horse, mind racing far too fast for him to give anything other than short answers to Zelda's questions and attempts at conversation since he was saved.
None of this felt right.
Going into dungeons, training, talking to people, anything. It all felt pointless. It was like his resolve to even live had died in that prison. Zelda was an anchor in a bleak world, but even still she frightened him. Still, he was trying, but it wasn't easy.
He grabbed the sword he had, and sighed. Even the sword felt wrong.
Tossing the scabbard around his hip, he tightened it, and gave an approving sound in response to Zelda. He slipped the targe he had borrowed onto his arm, and felt the leather compress in his hand. Until past that point, he hadn't looked in the cave.
His heart skipped a few beats when he did, however. But he thought about the warmth of the shard he had found, that familiar feeling. A spark of Courage, in his hand.
Unconsciously, he closed his hand around the very shard, hanging from his neck. He just knew more of his Triforce had to be down there.
The Hero of Courage is always born with several traits. Perseverance through the hardest trials, the resolve to stand up to the very embodiment of darkness itself, and the drive to protect the wielder of Wisdom. Such has been the nature of this symbiotic bond since the Goddess Hylia and her Champion sealed Demise away.
But all this can be stripped away from the hero in one swift go.
Link’s resolve since losing the Triforce and suffering through his imprisonment has been diminished, a shadow of what he once was. He still has resolve to live and fight for Zelda and his people, but now combatting it is the memories of the trauma he faced, of the things he saw. Damaged is really the best way to put it, and even the smallest chance of somebody dying scares him to death. He is still the same kind knight, but because of what he went through, has become reclusive, speaking primarily to Zelda, as her lover, and her Sheikah guard.
The Hero will have to find his resolve again to retake his title.
LIKES
[attr="class","scroll"]
Solidarity: Mistrust of others has pushed Link into a reclusive lifestyle, where he prefers to be alone in his room, leaving only to eat and socialize when absolutely necessary. Zelda is the only exception to this rule, and she is often close by him.
Nature: When indoors gets to be too confining for Link, he takes instead to nature, finding relief in the solidarity and peace of it. Bodies of water are an issue for him, thanks to the illusion of being drowned again and again in the Sacred Realm, so he prefers to sit upon cliffsides in the mountains, looking over the scenery.
Animals: Link has always had an affinity for animals, having helped around local farms when he was a kid. He is most adept around horses, knowing how to tame and ride them effectively, but can also work with livestock, dogs, and cats well. Some will notice that all village animals befriend him within time.
DISLIKES
[attr="class","scroll"]
Being around people: Groups of people expect too much of him, looking for something he is not ready to face yet. Therefore, he is avoidant of having to interact with large groups of people.
Expressing emotion: Despite being the former paragon of Courage, Link knows to hide his feelings whenever he can. Emotional outbursts for him are far too intense, and they tend to reduce him to a catatonic state. As such, he tends to internalize a lot of it.
Seeing Zelda suffer: Link knows he needs to get better to help Zelda, and he is trying, but for now, all he can do is watch as she struggles to return her royal name from the ashes, and defeat the dark forces unleashed on the world.
MOTIVATIONS
[attr="class","scroll"]
Helping Zelda: His Princess is his driving force in healing. For years, he has sworn fealty to her, and as her chosen hero, there is nobody better than he. But he is unfit for the role currently, and must work to right that wrong.
Restoring Hyrule to glory: The war is over. Dark forces still linger, and the shards of the Triforce are hunted and collected, separated. It is his wish to see a unified Hyrule once again, and the Triforce returned to its former splendor, so the Goddesses can once again acknowledge his worth/
Living peacefully: Despite being a knight, Link has had enough fighting for a lifetime. He wishes to retire to a quiet life with a spouse, somewhere where people won’t find them unless they want to be found, and somewhere they can live off the land. But as the Hero of Courage, he has a duty, and that comes first.
FEARS
[attr="class","scroll"]
Water: One form of torture Link faced in the Sacred Realm was the illusion that he was drowning, hands and feet. Always trying to struggle out, but he always failed, and seemingly died of shortness of breath, only to wake and find it was an illusion, because of this, large bodies of water unnerve him.
Failing the populus again: The fear of failure is mainly what makes Link adverse to his role as a hero, and he knows that he wouldn’t be able to face anyone if he fails again. With his issues, he knows he’s not ready, but part of him doesn’t want him to be ready. The seed of doubt was planted, and quickly took root.
Death: Does this really need to be explained? Death equates failure, and the loss of the chosen Hero.
HISTORY
Being the son of a Knight sets your life into motion pretty easily. From a young age, Elinkar was raised in the family of the Royal Guard of Hyrule, the son of the Head Guard of the King and Queen. His mother died when he was young, in childbirth to his sister, Aryllia. His father was posted at the royalty’s estate on the outskirts of Castle Town, and it was there that he grew up, helping tend to livestock and playing with the other knight’s children, as well as his younger sister when she was born.
But one child he met would change his entire future, he hadn’t just realized it.
The Royal Family had three children, but Link bonded closest with the middle child, Zelda. She was his age, and they met early on in life through Link’s father and the King. The two were quick to befriend each other, and when her mother let her, Zelda would go out and play with him and the other kids. They would often go aside and play on their own, often sneaking off for adventure, and life was good. In this time, Link lost his father, and he was devastated, but Zelda helped him through, staying as a rock for her in trying times.
But suddenly, Zelda’s life changed drastically. Her mother passed as well, and suddenly, her father took her away from her friends. Link had no chance to say goodbye before she was ripped away from him. With how upset he got about it, his father pushed him instead to train under him, and his time was then split between combat training and helping on the farm. Still, he wondered how Zelda was doing, and instead focused on his work, as well as bonding with his little sister.
When he came of age to start training in the castle, he jumped on the opportunity. The guards welcomed in as part of family, and he was put in a group of young teens to begin his training. Work with spear, shield, sword, and various other weapons filled his days, as well as discipline and etiquette training. But being in the castle presented another problem.
He saw her again.
Zelda came into his life again, though she didn’t know it. He always saw her either in court, or from afar, but her Sheikah teachers and guards always guided her away before he had a chance to speak to her. His years went by along this way, until the young teen was a young man. Years of training had turned him into a warrior, and he discovered that he, Elinkar, was to be named knight, and personal guard to the royal family. When asked if there was anybody he wanted to knight him, his thoughts went to the princess. When walking through the gardens to contemplate his choice to be a knight, he came across a crying maiden, and was shocked when she turned out to be Zelda herself. Reunited, the princess consoled secrets in him, then suddenly, they kissed, the vague spark that smoldered before bursting to life.
Zelda, however, was afraid of the consequences, and she ran, leaving Elinkar fuming. Thinking far too brashly, he returned to the guard’s quarters, and planned to turn down the position of knight. However, Zelda herself came to confront him, saying she was willing to risk it, and a relationship formed between the two. Zelda knighted him before his peers, and named him jarl, granting him a position of low nobility and an estate to live in. With this, he was a full knight of Hyrule, and lived out his time in service and peace, with Zelda continuing their relationship in secret, due to her engagement to Prince Perseus. He was aware of the two, and knew Zelda did not love him, so he helped guard their secret, a close friend to them both.
In time, Link would discover that he was the reincarnation of the Legendary Hero, and with confirmation of the sages, it was confirmed. Tradition dictated that he was to be announced as hero to the world, and he was more than happy to go through with the traditions. In this time, his and Zelda’s romance had blossomed even further, and the two were rather getting rather serious.
But in that night, Link lost both the respect of his sister, and the love of his life once again. Aryllia gave him a look when they announced him as hero, and he knew she knew about it. He should have told her, but it was risky. In addition, Perseus’ father, Gladhion, caught Link and Zelda sneaking off after the traditional dance for an intimate moment. He was put before everyone, and an ultimatum was put into place: Zelda was to wed Perseus, or Link was to die.
While he was imprisoned, she visited him, and he told her to go through with it. What he was told of, however, was very different, and that night, the death of Zelda was announced, and Link freed. Instead, she had a servant stand in for her, faking her death, and himself, Perseus, and Prince Asthar of Horoldrum fled from Hyrule, Zelda meeting with them later in Horoldrum, disguised as a Shiekah. Their romance continued, but was strained due to the stress upon them.
Back in Hyrule, however, things were falling apart. The dark entity Sieth had been reborn, to a vessel named Marik, and made moves to free the gods themselves from the Sacred Relm. Great enemies of the past such as Zant, Majora, Yuga, and others were released from the Sacred Realm. Link was forced back to Hyrule to fight, and at this time, finally pulled the Master Sword, embracing destiny fully in a great battle against the gods.
It couldn’t have gone more wrong.
Zelda’s identity was revealed, and in a great battle, Link was dealt a killing blow. With his last breaths, he prayed to the Golden Goddesses, a prayer of help for the former champion of Hylia. And the Goddesses answered, but instead of grace and peace, they brought wrath. And stripped not only Sieth’s powers, but the Triforce from the trio of Marik, Zelda, and Link. As Link laid there, dying as Zelda shook him, he watched as the great relic was shattered into pieces, and suddenly his vision blacked out.
What awaited him next was imprisonment in the Sacred Realm, a torture of 4 years that felt like hundreds. Malevolent beings and gods that past incarnations of the Hero had defeated took out centuries, even millennia, of anger out upon him, and the Hero’s resolve was slowly broken over time. He found later on that he could communicate with Zelda in his dreams, but this also opened them up to interference by these gods. After four years, he had almost given up hope, but then a familiar light embraced him, and the gods cowered from him, for a change.
When he next woke up, it was in a bed, and to an immense amount of pain. He discovered Zelda had saved him, but when she asked questions of him, he was only silent, gaze fixated in a corner, shaking. There was damage to the hero, and it took him weeks before they even spoke.
APPEARANCE
Look to Link. 6 feet tall, blue tunic, blonde hair. Now look back to your man. Now back to Link. He’s on a horse, hemp breeches and riding boots working with the tunic to hide the fit form of a warrior. He’s drawing a bow, while on horseback. Look away, and back. Now you can see his green eyes. He’s throwing a bomb, which makes him cooler than your man. Once more away, and back. Strong arms swinging a hammer, and what’s this? He’s giving you a diamond. Basically, Link is the man of your dreams. What’s that? The diamond is actually a ring now. He just made it himself. Bow, shield, and sword on his back, quiver at his hip. Smile on his face.
Old Spice could make your man into this. But probably not.
