✉ notes: WOOHOO for finally doing something with Karliah!
I'm no Lady.
And all my life I've been knocking men like you into the dust.
To Karliah's surprise, others began to approach them and aid the group as they continued to fight for their lives. It seemed as though they were continuing to fight a losing battle, but the vigor of her magic allowed to persevere. She did everything she could; used all of her brute strength to fight off these embodiment as the morale began to lower for the group as a whole. Leon had been injured. Garrett was looking desperate. And Artemis... looked as though he was ready to give up and accept his fate.
"Do not be so easily hindered!" Karliah snapped to the others who faltered. "Our Lady has a very important role to play tonight, and as such, we must continue to fight until she has finished! We simply must hold our own. This is preparation for the struggles ahead!" she tried to lift their spirits.
It may seem like a death sentence, but whatever darkness came before them, was simply a test of their strength as a whole. This was only a slimmer of the power that could take hold of Hyrule again, and so far, they were alive - and for those who survived the Divine War of Seith... this should come as nothing surprising. Even these acolytes - despite their power, were still mortal.
"You each have triforce shards in your possessions - I suggest you use them to your advantage!"
Artemis then spoke of the third embodiment, which was nowhere to be found. It was true, and strange as it was, only two had arrived with each shard of the Triforce. If the third had shown up with the others upon their entrance... they would surely be dead. So perhaps their Goddess was blessing them with some sympathy.
Or pity.
Karliah growled in frustration, almost insulted by this divine prank as they simply played around with their food and watched them suffer. But not Karliah. Not today. She was considered one of the strongest of the Gerudo for a reason. She would put an end to this madness.
"I am not going to play any games for much longer. You will exhaust the power of your Triforce Shard inevitably!" Karliah took hold of one of Wisdom's neck, squeezing with all her power as the other hand then grabbed at the mask, pulling on it with all her might. To rip it off their face would reveal weakness. Just what was hiding behind them?
After reading tales of legends, singing songs of heroes, and dreaming of glory; is this what they should have expected? Was effort against evil meaningless? Were they to only die in the end, -- and to what cause?
Kura couldn't help but let her mind wander to earlier that week, when she so boastfully declared her will to fight. Her desire to grow in strength, and to be needed at her sister's side. She was so adamant that she didn't need to be born a Hero to make a difference; yet here they were, about to perish at the hand of evil, and there was nothing they could do about it.
"You each have triforce shards in your possessions - I suggest you use them to your advantage!"
But How?
'You know how.'
There it was again, the voice that echoed in the vast expanse of her mind, whispering to her as she laid in her own consciousness. In the world, her body was a large white wolf, who fiercely battled against the embodiment of wisdom and power. In her mind she could only watch, as the power of twilight gained more control by the moment. As if she was floating in a deep black sea, drowning, and frantically tried to reach the top. But there was nothing, and she slowly began to choke.
'I'm scared....'
'You can do something, and you won't. You are a coward.'
It was true, she didn't just fight to stay in control over worry of others. She fought to stay alive, and she fought for the right to come back, even knowing that she could stop them. She had no proof, but she knew in her heart that she could save everyone, or at least a few, and that sounded better than everyone dying. How many lives has this country sacrificed to survive? How many friends and allies died to save the Hero, so that the world may experience peace again?
If she had to be one more in the pages of a history book, then so be it.
'It's yours...'
Her breath slipped past her lips, and her body fell lower into the black void of her mind. Any light she once saw, slowly faded from sight, and a luminous hand cupped her face. She could only stare at the beautiful sight, not paying attention to the weight of her body being carried forward and through an opened cavity.
'What's going to happen to me?'
'Whatever the Shadow desires.'
Her feet brushed against solid ground, and she was laid upon it softly. Somehow that thought comforted her. Truly Kura didn't know if she was going to live or die, and she could only be hopeful that the power of twilight was enough to save her friends. So with a smile, the door to closed behind her and she was left alone.
In the world, as her mind was locked away, Witherfang's appearance took a notable difference. The wolf doubled in size and a plethora of darker aura fumed from it's figure. Slowly the white fur that it once had, grew black as the night sky and eyes glowed like the light of the moon. The shadow beast growled deeply, lips unfurled, as it stood shaking before the embodiment of wisdom. There was no telling just what the beast had planned until the very moment that it did.
It's large head swayed, eyes gazing back to the acolyte of power. Together the two masked enigma's were powerful, and together they were impossible to dispatch. But perhaps if there was only one of them. So with large dull thuds, the wolf turned its body to face Power, baring it's fangs as a sign of challenge.
A dark colored paw lifted slightly, before pressing once more on the ground and pulling it back -- as if it was scratching at the surface. From that simple motion, bright eyes flashed and a mix of shadow and twilight swirled around the embodiment. Yet it did not harm the acolyte, instead it just swirled and collected together behind it, manifesting into a thin veil that glowed with a purple hue.
The incorporeal veil of shadow behind the acolyte grew in size and suddenly Witherfang was off, dashing forward with a mighty leap. Quickly closing the distance between herself and the embodiment of power, she opened her jaw wide, fangs ready to crush down on any surface it caught. But she didn't stop, instead the weight of her body would carry her forward, -- along with any creature she attempted to drag along, right into the Twilight Portal she created.
If she couldn't defeat it. Surely she would put enough distance between it and the the other embodiment as she could. In this last effort, one could only hope that she would manage to ensnare the acolyte in her jaws; as she was entering the Twilight Realm with or without him in tow.
The embodiments were met with an onslaught of retaliation, and though they cried in pain with every sliced tendril, every arrow shot into them, every magic al attack against them, they laughed through it. A hollow, crazed laugh. This was the best Hyrule had to offer?
But then there was more retaliation. The Wisdom embodiment was attacked by the Gerudo girl, suddenly overwhelmed by raw might, and it stumbled back, as the edge of its mask was grasped and tugged. It cried out, distorted voice pitching to a more normal tone, and with a spray of blood, the mask was ripped clean from its face. The tendrils faded into shadow, and before Karliah kneeled a Gerudo woman, one familiar to the younger Gerudo. She was one of the guard appointed to protect them. Though tears of pain flowed from her eyes, mingling with the blood dripping from her torn flesh, she laughed, looking up at Karliah, their eyes meeting.
“Mask-wearer, you were too blind to see the truth before you. Do you really think some sort of spy wasn’t planted with the family? ‘Twas I who alerted Lord Ezeazar to your presence, to get my revenge on that Gerudo witch with you.”
No one would know she was lying as she laughed to the heavens.
---
The Power embodiment stood back to nurse its wounds, but chuckled when it saw the sacrifice the soldier had made. What a fool, to mortally wound himself just to deal a small degree of damage? His hits stung, but the boy didn’t realize its power was just as divine. The laugh got louder as it used several tendrils to rip the arrows from its body.
“Not bad, Heroes of Hyrule. But you have no hope of winning. I’ll enjoy toying with y-“
A cry of pain rang out as the sudden appearance of Witherfang led to the beast assaulting the Power embodiment, and it cried out as a portal of Twilight formed, the beast pushing it into the portal. Tendrils whipped out to grab anything they could, and it fought back, with all its might. Still, it was a losing battle.
---
“Enough.”
That single word brought a silence to the battlefield. They were in the presence of another masked figure, similar to the other two, however, this one appeared simply humanoid and distinctly female. She dropped down from the nearby rooftop, and as her feet hit the ground, all would realize how unnatural the silence actually was. Within seconds, the magic everybody was catching on to would take effect, and swiftly.
Whether it was Sappho’s healing, Leon’s Aura, Karliah’s mask power, or Witherfang’s rage, all magic suddenly stopped. The Power embodiment’s tendrilled form faded at the same time as the Twilight portal. A chuckle came from the new adversary, and she put a hand to her mask, removing it from her face. The only sound the party could hear was a clinking sound, as from the bodies of the abominations dropped the Triforce shards.
“You played a fool’s hard today, heroes of Hyrule. As did you, my brother and sister. Where they embody Wisdom and Power, I embody Courage. I believe somebody called for me?”
Her mask was cast aside, and she calmly walked over to the Power embodiment, removing his mask as well. The Goron male underneath smiled at her, before she stepped away from him. Even if anyone were to strike at her, she would not break stride, and one would find their blades falling short as she continued speaking.
“It will please you to know that it was never our intent to kill you, Royal Family and friends. Nay, we simply intended to divert, and trap you, to make sure the resurrection of our Lady was not in vain. Your dear hero was saved from his eternal prison, but in the time it took the Witch and your dear sister, we freed our Lady. Be thankful, as with your goddesses abandoning you, you have been left alone in this world. But now you have a chance to start anew, as the Masked Lady once again walks this world. One of you already uses her blessing, albeit given to you by an unknowing source. Is that not right… Karliah.”
The Sheikah’s grin was wide, and suddenly, her eyes shined gold, as she looked up to the sky.
“It is time for my Lady’s herald to appear, and visit her loyal servant. Understand that we desire no malice with you. My brother and sister did what they did of their own conviction. My lady offers peace to you all…”
A roar in the distance echoed through the sky. The Courage embodiment smiled, before continuing.
“But if you get in our way, your fate will be worse than death. We will flay every ;ast bit of power from you, then you shall bathe in dragonfire.”
Another roar, this time louder, and a colossal figure burst from the cloudline, great leathery wings unfolding as it hovered over Castle Town. The Courage embodiment raised her hands, a look of glee on her face, as if offering tribute to the dragon above them. It took off, towards the castle, and the embodiment looked back to the exhausted fighters.
“Now, little chickadees. Run. Your hero needs you.”
A sudden distortion of static would ring through the party’s ears, blurring their vision, and when it cleared, all the Embodiments would be gone. Shining Triforce Shards sad upon the pavement, now stripped of their bastardized owners. Even after the Courage embodiment left, the party would find that their power was still drained, slowly increasing over time. Too slowly.
A crash in the distance would sound as the dragon landed at the castle, but there was nothing they could do. Better to let Eleazar bathe in fire than try and fight it.
As Leon lay down on the ground in immense pain he would chuckle as he felt the strength draining from him but as he had thought that was indeed his last day living he was taken by surprise as the young woman who helped Prince Artemis had gracefully taken the blade Leon had thrust into himself out of his gut. As the woman began to heal Leon with a glow of emerald in her hair his wounds were treated but his sword still bloodied and his armor in bad shape from the fight. Leon chuckled again as he looked to the woman with gratitude in his eyes as he tried to get up despite his wounds but despite his own willpower he was only able to sit up and watch the fight unfold before him. That was until he saw a new masked figure appear before them and basically silenced the battle with ease. It was a slender figure and not as monstrous as the other two who seemed to be a woman before them. Leon looked back to his savior and tried to speak but before he could he coughed up a little blood from his injuries. Leon wiped the blood from his mouth and felt more at ease as most of the injury to his self had faded. "T...Thank Y...You.." It was still hard to speak but he was able to give a short few words out at least.
Leon took notice that when the tendrils faded regular people were beneath them, his eyes full of shock he felt terrible now as they were also severely injured. Suddenly he heard a loud roar from the sky, it was a huge dragon heading toward the castle! "B...But h...how?!" Leon said slowly as he was regaining his breath again making it easier to speak. Leon struggled to move his legs to stand up as he had used his bloodied sword as a crutch to help himself up. Slowly but surely he was able to stand again but could not run or do anything strenuous at the moment. Leon just chuckled as he felt like it was all just a giant waste, like all this effort was for nothing. A dragon was on the loose and now he was severely injured to boot, it felt hopeless. Leon then stared back at the new figure in curiosity as he held his hand to his gut noticing that his vital organs were not severely injured, he got lucky as he could have easily killed himself. Leon noticed they had dropped triforce shards on the ground before vanishing from the scene. Leon began to kneel down to pick one up but felt his wounds spark with pain when he did. Picking one up he pocketed it and looked to the others to see if they were alright while not worrying about himself as much. "I..Is everyone a..alright?" Leon could speak a little easier now but right now he would need to walk himself back to a safe place to rest for that is what he really needed right now. Leon sheathed his bloodied blade and moved through his damaged armor through the streets as they would soon head somewhere safe to rest.
The battle was over just as he had arrived. His arrows doing little to nothing to slow the advancing creatures. Magic was always a tricky thing to contend with, give him a bandit any day. Eyes went wide as he saw Leon, either foolishly or heroically, he couldn't tell, injur himself to gain a hit on the advancing monstrosity. Each party member threw their skills in, fighting off the assault as best they could, himself included, but it was for nought.
The air grew thick with a presence of an unearthly aura, the calmness and authority that this new player brought into the fray set the shadow of Hyrule's nerves a blaze. He didn't like it when the enemy was this collected, this confident and willing to talk. She waxed on, talking of a masked lady whom he couldn't place in his long experience, no frame of reference besides her throw away comment to their amazonian warrior. His arrows remain set, the string tight and creaking as he watched her move, ready to let loose the second she got too close to the wolf that was Kura, the second she dared bridge the line towards the royal family and their party.
"You talk too much." He spoke coldly as he let loose, intent on putting her down but found his arrows simply falling to the ground, rendered inert in their flight. Then the dragon came. It ghosted across the skies like a great dark cloud, wings beating up a storm as it slithered and wove above castle town. He winced for a second, just a second as his senses were overwhelmed, before realising it must have been more, as their foes had fled which left the party to pick up the pieces. In some cases, literally. He gained his own shard before heading to the main party.
"We don't have time for that. WE must get the family out of here as fast as possible. Hylia knows what that Beast up there will do to this place and we can't afford to loose anymore." It stung to be pragmatic, his very core crying out to remain and aid this forsaken place. But to do that, they needed Link and for that, they needed the Royals alive.
"over before it begins, what a pity." Kallien mused to himself, hopping down from the rooftop he had poised himself on to strike, landing in front of the entrance to the chapel. He shook his head in disbelief at his luck. He actually thought of a plan that time. "oh well, the best laid plans often go astray" he muttered under his breath. "Redemption will have to wait, your grace" He looked back to the statue of Nayru with a sullen look. before the glint of the shards of the Triforce caught his eye. "hello lovelies!" He smiled broadly underneath his facemask, striding over to one of the shards and picking them up. his weapon letting off a bright flash as he did so. He looked over to the man wielding the bow, raising one eyebrow as he chuckled at the thought of anyone defeating such a terrible foe with mere metal arrows. "You might want to try the MAGIC variety next time, or maybe dip them in something flammable and set them alight eh? I fear however more will be needed to bring down THAT than swords and arrows." he motioned to the monstrous flying beast that had taken flight towards the castle. "Anyhow I saw you coming from the rooftops. Nice footwork." He looked from him over to the motley crew assembled around the spot where the battle had taken place, merely shaking his head. If all of them combined could not defeat those beings, What could? What could mortal men do against such awesome power? He folded his arms, muttering to himself, lost in thought.
✉ notes: gj you managed to piss off the warrior lol
I'm no Lady.
And all my life I've been knocking men like you into the dust.
When the mask had ripped from the acolyte's face, she fell back from the release of force - stumbling a moment to look back up and see the eyes of a familiar comrade. She lurched, brows raising in shock as the mask then fell from her hand. She had betrayed them all. But why? What did Eleazar have to offer that no one else did, aside from fear? Even she knew that Eleazar was unstable, and the moment you displeased him you could be sent to have your head cut off.
The acolytes fled from the area after giving their creed, as the roar of a beast loomed over the city, causing many of the people to stare up into the sky to see a massive dragon take off for the horizon. "What in the hell... where did that come from...?" she murmured under her breath. She pushed her mask up, above her eyes, causing the magic to negate from her body.
Now was a reprieve to get the others safely out of the city. She looked back to the others, Leon foolishly wounded, and Kura still suffering within the form of a beast. "We need to calm her and get her out of here safely. Artemis - we must help the wounded get back to the camp--"
She stopped for a moment, looking to Malikeith whom had arrived upon them. By how he had spoken to the others, he must have known them - and quite well. A shame that everyone had been separated before the battle had commenced. "Is there anyone else in the city that I should know about before we leave them behind?"
Another voice appeared from the alleyway, and Karliah turned to face yet another Sheikah - one whom no one seemed to recognize.
"You might want to try the MAGIC variety next time, or maybe dip them in something flammable and set them alight eh? I fear however more will be needed to bring down THAT than swords and arrows."
"And just who the fuck are you?" Karliah growled. "You obviously must be daft because you haven't seen a shrivel of anything we just encountered. Our magic was nothing compared to theirs. At best, it went even with them, giving us a longer chance of survival--and yet--wait--what are you talking about!?"
Did that Sheikah really just advise setting the acolytes to fire? "Do... do you realize that these acolytes are blessed with holy blight? Fire isn't going to kill divine beings. Especially one that was already on goddamn fire!"
She spat down at the ground and grumbled, irritated by the criticizer as she turned to face the others again. "Let's get everyone out of here already so I can take a long ass nap."
eon's gaping wound slowly eased together, the very basics of healing able to work on him, decreasing the flow of blood out of the wound where his sword had entered into his body, but Sappho continued with her incantation to try and make sure that any deeper internal damage was healed thoroughly as well. However, her magic was cut off as she started up again and attempted this, green sparks flying from her hair as she tried to recite the spell and complete it. An outside power was sabotaging her attempts, she knew that much, one that was strong enough to break down a shard-induced aura. Sappho turned around sharply, her intuition telling her that nothing good could come about from staying in such a place. But as she opened her mouth to warn her fellow survivors, the Sheikah appeared. She must have been the source of the nullification of their magic, a theory proven to be true once the Sheikah started to speak, and seems to be the final embodiment of courage that had been missing throughout their battle.
As the Sheikah talked of the Witch, Sappho’s expression twisted into one of pure resentment, knowing that she must be referring to the old hag Nynaeve and remembered the humiliation she had suffered at the hands of the Gerudo woman. And with that piece of information, Sappho’s ideas of the identities of the embodiments and their group began to form. They seemed to be in league with the old hag, who was helping to free their ‘Lady’ from her prison. But who was this ‘Lady’ they obeyed? Sappho thought on this as she picked up a dropped shard and placed into a side pouch, ideas gathering together as she tried to reach a conclusion.
Then, that huge colossus of a dragon appeared, its wings unfurling to unthinkable proportions and its talons sharpened like swords. Sappho almost fainted at the sight of it soaring by, but it wasn't out of shock, it was out of a realisation that had come about by seeing it. The embodiments had appeared to be made up of various different tribes, all with one commonality between them - strange masks attached to their faces - as well as a theme of chaotic movement and protrusions similar to tentacles appearing during their transformations. They seemed to be allies with the old hag, whether to use her for her power, or genuinely working together, she knew not, but she did know that they had a deep reverence for someone they referred to as her ‘Lady’, similiar to how Nynaeve obeyed a being she called her ‘Mistress’. The pieces gradually fell into place, as she drew on all of her arcane knowledge: an assortment of tribes, usage of strange masks, tentacle-like limbs, ties to the Gerudo, a lady sentenced to a life in prison, the epithet of one who speaks in masks… Sappho’s eyes widened as she registered who she must be.
‘It seems this world has been intruded upon by a divine being yet again, but this time I will have to teach them the lesson that humanity does not need them to govern over the land. I hope you're ready, for I will stop at nothing now that I have my sights on this goal.’
With that, she followed on behind the leathery dragon, a solemn vow made in her heart that she would find the Masked Lady and return her to whence she came.
Stripped of my pride, my sanity, even my mortality, I have resigned Myself to the role Of an onlooker.

shining bright she is like the sun, waiting there for her fate to come
With the appearance of the embodiment of Courage, the divine beast found its paws landing upon the solid ground underneath, jaws coming free of the acolyte and its head swaying with confusion. The summoned portal was dismissed as it was manifested, and the wolf was unable to pass through to the Twilight realm.
More than that, it's body shook violently, and the dark purple aura that surrounded the beast dissipated faster and faster. Muscles quaked and yelps of pain symbolized the shift of the wolf slowly turning back into hylian form. Claws that dug into the earth were replaced with pale and delicate fingers, fangs and lips of it's maw broke and retreated into a familiar smile and the dark color of fur fell off into the amber tresses of the princess. It was painful, excruciating even, -- as the large form of the wolf broke and bent into the small petite size of the girl.
In the end, her bare body laid upon the ground, curled on her side and drenched in sweat. Her body spasmed, clearly still in shock from the instant morph back into herself. Normally she would remain as Witherfang for sometime, hours even, -- but the sudden aura that was expelled from the acolyte of courage, negated the magical effect of the divine beast, and it retracted within herself.
So her body laid there upon the ground, but her mind was empty, as her soul searched for it's way to the surface. Once bound in chains, she was freed from her pact, and Kura's psyche was able to return to her unconscious body that shivered in the dirt. The girl, now unaware of the happenings around her, only was able to rely on her friends to help her out of the city and back to the ruins.

Enemy, familiar friend
my beginning and my end
It took a moment for Artemis to get his footing back, and just as he had moved in on what appeared to be a third abomination, everything had stopped - magic negated, and talk of the future as they were then left to survive and escape.
Reconvening to collect their wounded party members, the world was shaken by a ferocious roar that caused all to stare into the sky in awe. A large beast was soaring through the sky - something that Artemis found to be quite mesmerizing.
He had always been fascinated by dragons - even taking time in his youth to leave home and study upon Snowpeak to learn the art of Dragontongue. There, he had met a young lad who was considered to be the Dragon Tamer of this era - a goron whom was training his youthful drake.
He turned back to the others, whom were trying to gather themselves to head back to the camp, and he looked back to the castle in hopes that perhaps those whom he knew planned to intrude would come back.
Karliah asked if there was anyone else that they should be waiting on the moment that Malikeith arrived. Artemis looked down and took a deep breath as Kura had suddenly fallen bare onto the ground.
Eyes following her unconscious body, his stomach dropped as he rushed to her side, pulling the cloak from his own body and wrapping it around her own, before picking her up over his shoulder and holding her tightly. He looked back to Karliah nervously.
"King Perseus and King Asthar have yet to return from the castle... but we cannot stay here, not with Kura like this. We need to get back to camp now." He turned, looking toward the path which led to the City Gates. "May the goddesses be on their side."
