The Seekers of hope

The lost woods were, as the name suggested, mind bending. It had taken him almost 30 years to get an understanding of how they warped and worked to trick travellers into thinking they knew exactly where they were, when in fact they were somewhere else entirely. But it was in this place of great natural beauty, that Malikeith felt at peace. The chirping birds, the forest critters going about their daily routine as if nothing had changed outside this resplendent natural gem.



But things had changed, events had turned the whole status quo upside down and into a warped version of Hyrule that Mal struggled to comprehend. Lawlessness and chaos ravaged the kingdom, the Monarchy in bad favour with the populous, and a power hungry madman governing it all with a loose grip on the finer points of being a head of state. Which is why their mission, the ‘heroes of Hyrule’, was so important. The return of the hero, and the restoration of the Monarchy. They just needed a plan to get it.



Which was why after one too many wrong turns which he will never speak of, the ever-loyal guardian of the third Princess was sat perched on a tree, ever alert and waiting for his charge and his partner in defence. He crouched there ever poised in his official Sheikah gear, Bow and arrows strung across his back, two knives on either side of his belt and finally, several pairs of throwing stars clipped to his front. For he could guess her plan, the wild and often rebellious sibling was full of them. Since why else would he be summoned to the forest temple, if not to start rummaging? He had arrived much sooner than required, scouting out the surrounding area to ensure their meeting was indeed private. His satisfaction that it was indeed the case had brought him to his perch, awaiting the arrival of Kura and Garrett.

Like a cat; a royal feline that crept across the tall bannisters as it stalked it's unknowing prey. Waiting for the right time to strike, the epitome of finesse, as was the king of hunters.

Unfortunately, Kura was not the hunter.

No, she was the opposite -- which was clearly displayed as she clumsily fumbled through the underbrush on her way to the Forest temple. Loose branches pulled at her hair, rocks obstructed her path, and eventually she found herself face to face with a large and wary arachnid. All of which she recognized verbally with obvious agitation. Screams, grunts, and yelps. If there was anyone looking for her specifically... it would be like hunting a wounded and bleeding piglet.

She honestly felt miserable, and only the idea of glory cheered her up. The thought of handing her sister some lost artifact or knowledge for the release of Link, was her reason for continuing down the 'path' to the temple despite her want to just curse it all. That lone thought, and the unrelenting -brooding- aura she felt coming from her back. She was sure that her retainer, and most trusted friend, really despised her at the moment. Not only did she wake him up early for a possible fool's errand, but at this moment he had to personally deal with her inability to function as anything other than a castle born princess. Though the two of 'em would make it eventually, only losing out on a few hours of daylight due to her navigational errors and distress calls at the sight of a bug.

Upon arrival, she would urgently let her ass meet the ground, giving an audible sigh of relief at the sight of the moss covered ruins. Though the feeling of relief would fade as she realized they still had to go inside. 'Why can't Ancients just leave their stuff in plain sight... all these trials..'

"I wonder if Zelda had to go through any of this... maybe that is why she is such a grump.." she said to herself quietly, looking at the temple entrance with awe. Though she didn't care for all the labor, Kura really did like history, and discovery... so perhaps she would grow into the exploratory side.

There were few things that Kura had expressed desire for that Garrett had ever questioned. This was one of them.

From the moment the sun lit the morning sky, Kura had woken him in a shake, demanding that he get ready as they were heading deep into the woods to some grand expedition. Though half asleep, and incredibly confused, Garrett couldn't quite get an answer as to what it was exactly that they would gain from this. Or maybe she did answer, and he was just too tired to comprehend it. Either way, Garrett was a bit sluggish as he followed behind the princess, still keeping a careful eye on their surroundings as they pressed forward.

It was as though she had never had to fight in her life. No proper training, no proper form, and she fumbled at the very sinkholes and vines that were perfectly placed upon the dirt. It wasn't long for her to find herself being faced off by a giant spider, something Garrett really did not want to have to deal with. "You owe me for this!" he had mentioned to her after ridding the monster for her. Though not much conversation seemed to follow.

Their silence would be accompanied by his loud, drawn out yawns as he scratched his messy head of hair, trying to properly prepare himself for whatever it was that they were doing. It was rare for Kura to actually summon him for an adventure. It was usually just a given that he would follow. The walk was long, the winding woods becoming thicker in the maze. "Are you sure we're going the right way?" he asked quietly. His eyes followed her as she continued to lead, until they were brought to a large stone piller, with steps leading over the thicket and onto a cliffside.

Once they had reached the higher ground, a massive, ancient structure came into view, vines entangled with the cracks of the mossy brick. Though Garrett wasn't exactly one for gods and grandeur, his eyes grew small at the realization that this was perhaps one of the ancient temples spoken in the history of previous heroes.

"Kura, you can't be serious. The Forest Temple?" he asked, hoping maybe they arrived to the wrong location. "Isn't this supposed to be something for the Hero to wander? We're invading a territory no one alive has ever even stepped inside of! We have no idea what could be in there--what if there's nothing even inside--what if--"

Garrett stopped himself as his eyes fixed upon a person standing near the temple entrance. He narrowed his eyes, taking a step forward as his face became visibly red with animosity. "What is he doing here?" his finger flung up, pointing to Malikeith, whom was waiting for them patiently.

"Did you summon him as well? Do you not trust in my skill to protect you alone? Or did he simply invite himself? Why am I the last one to find out about this!?" he stammered each question over each other, until he stopped, looking to Kura and biting his tongue.

He took a deep breath, shifting his weight between his feet as he crossed his arms in defeat. "I'm sorry, your grace. I shouldn't have said that. I'm sure there is purpose behind your decisions and it is wrong of me to question it."

He heard them before he saw them, which when one was a trained master of stealth and secrecy, was possibly the worst thing that could happen. The two came out of a thicket of shrubbery, bickering and squabbling like two birds over a gooseberry. It would have been charming, had it not been for one small detail: They were wanted fugitives, and Garrett was supposed to be a professional.

He squinted as he was pointed out by the other Attendant who seemed to be more than a little insulted at Malikeith’s mere presence with the party. The older Sheakiah repressed a sigh and with a no amount of difficulty leaped down from his perch and landed in a crouch before standing up to his full height, still coming up short however against the taller Garrett. “Forgive me for following my duty.” He spoke simply, eyes never leaving the slightly perturbed young man.

He noticed how he raised his voice as if he was speaking to none other than a lifelong friend and in some respects, that could be true. The two had known Kura for her entire life, Garrett taking something more of a proactive role and remaining by her side morning, noon and night, even when she was a babe, Malikeith had a particular memory of the abrasive youth sitting next to her cot, ever vigilant. But that closeness was dangerous as, just like he had witnessed, it bred ‘bantering’.

“While hot tempered, Garrett has a point. Removing yourself from the party, even with us to protect you, is a dangerous decision. Temples are no small task to undertake your highness, one wonders what could be worth such a trek. Does Queen Zelda know about this?” Of course she didn’t, or else they would still be tucked away planning the next step to return to Castle town. No, this was another scheme intended to help the cause, but a bad feeling swelled up inside the more experienced guardian. He didn’t like this one bit, on that he was sure he and Garrett could agree.

In the back of her mind, she knew that she was in for some less than satisfied feedback from Garrett, her most trusted and loyal 'friend', as they progressed through the dangers of the forest, and where he so bravely fought for her safety -- no for real that spider was huge! So immediately when he expressed his lack of enthusiasm for her idea, she huffed and stood to meet him, furrowing her eyebrows and staring down the tall beast of a man. Though her short stature, being that she was only 4 foot ten inches high, was not so impressive. "Garrett please! Doesn't it all sound exciting?!"

That was when he pointed out Mal, whom she had not even noticed prior.

'Oh boy'

She had a faint idea that Garrett didn't quite care for Mal skulking around. They had a similar relationship compared to Zelda and herself. It wasn't distrust, or hatred... more like a strong rivalry! Either way, Kura bit on her bottom lip and looked away with a cheeky grin "Haha yeah bout him..." -- And then Malikeith started in.

'Goddesses they agree on something for once...'

Looking away Kura clicked the heel of her boot into the dirt and hesitated, "No she doesn't know... but come on guys! I want to help my sister. She is there, at the hideout, scouring over tomes, and letters, looking for someway to bring back the Hero. Now this is just a hunch, but there may be something in there," she said pointing to the temple, "A scroll, an artifact, just some stone with words on it... anything about ancient Hylian knowledge that may be of some help to her."

Kura stepped closer to the two of them, her eyes genuinely expressing her concern and desire to help Zelda, "I didn't tell my sister because... well because she would not have let me. But I am not a child anymore! So... whether you are coming with or not, I AM GOING IN THERE, AND I'M NOT COMING OUT TILL I HAVE SOMETHING USEFUL!" And with that she picked up her backpack, secured her small rapier at her hip, and stormed off, slowing down at the entrance in her unease.

'YAH WHO NEEDS A HERO!... boy I hope they come with me.'

As it turned out, Kura was actually doing this to help Zelda, despite the heir not having any knowledge of this expedition. Garrett furrowed his brows for a moment as he scratched the back of his head in wonder, looking to Malikeith who.... surprisingly agreed with him for once. "Old man has a point," he nodded. "I know that uh... the various heroes of the past could do these alone, but he has like... twice the strength and wits of a normal person. I mean, when the gods forged a hero, they made him spectacular for a reason. No common person could undertake such a task. And despite your lineage, it isn't comparable." 

Though Kura seemed to have enough of their disagreement, as she made the firm decision of going in with or without them, Garrett raised a brow, wondering if she really would. Honey. You wouldn't last 5 minutes in there alone. he thought to himself with a smirk. He knew that there would be no way to convince her otherwise though, and that she was dead set on finding something to aid the queen.

"I didn't realize you two were getting along so swimmingly," Garrett murmured quietly. Kura had already been walking from the two and heading toward the entrance though, to which Garrett looked to Malikeith in apprehension. "She's not going to last five minutes by herself. Even with all the poise in the land, she barely has the grace to walk through a forest without getting into trouble."

He let out an exasperated sigh as he started to skulk behind the girl, hands dug into his deep pockets of his caftan. Though his body language presented that he was dreading this, he still held some curiosity in regards as to what was left unrest inside. 

"Wait up, there's no way in hell you're going in there alone!" he called for her to slow down and allow them to keep up.

Malikeith's face remained set in stone, his arms folded as he looked down upon the small royal with less than a pleased expression as she gave out her excuses. Some valid, grant you, but a young girl who grew up around the palice, running off to explore ruins which would most certainly try to kill her, was not something the royal bodyguard wanted to contend with. He had enough trouble keeping her alive outside of an enclosed space full of monsters and traps, let alone IN one.

He was once again the butt of Garrett's ire, the young man perpetually seemingly to have sucked on a lemon for too long as he grumbled and reasoned with Kura. However he did take note of Garret's argument about the hero, which caused Mal to hold back a sniff of amusement. Certainly in terms of physique, but wits was another thing entirely, or perhaps he was just feeling just a tad moody due to the whole situation? The combined attempts to try and curb Kura from this fool's errand fell on deaf ears as she marched forward unperturbed.

He didn't have the heart to tell her that the temple could have been raided already, After all, he recalled three occasions adventures entered this temple alone, weather or not they came out was a matter he couldn't quite remember, but that wasn't the issue. "I fear that is true of most of the royal house." He spoke, pinching the bridge of his nose before Garret went after the wayward princess. "I have a bad feeling about this." Not that it stopped him as he swiftly following after the duo.

Though the princess tried not to show it... she was scared. She knew that the temples were not to be underestimated; there have been many adventurers who thought they could get rich from the history that was lost within the depths of the stone walls. Each man nothing more than a name in some record book now, and a memory to the ones that loved them.

Kura was silent as she stood at the entrance, waiting for Garrett to catch up to her before they faced what was inside together. Her brows were furrowed, eyes unwavering and an aura of determination radiated from the young woman. In her mind, she recollected on her retainers argument, and didn't dare to look at him before she tried to forcefully push aside the stone slab that sealed the door. 'The various heroes of the past could do these alone, but he has like... twice the strength and wits of a normal person.' '... but he was still a man..'

The door wouldn't move. Time itself acting like a barrier to the temple as the weight of the stone, paired with the elements, oxidized a seal. They were going to have to push harder for it to even move enough for an opening inside. Kura grit her teeth, and bared her shoulder against it; her tiny frame versus a meter tall stone door, was not an impressive sight to say the least. 'I mean, when the gods forged a hero, they made him spectacular for a reason. No common person could undertake such a task.' 'Did the god's not make us as well?' ' And despite your lineage, it isn't comparable.' 'His blood.... is my lineage too'

She strained against the impregnable ward; where one man might have given up and tried a different route, or went home in defeat, she still struggled. Delicate fingers formed into a fist and fell flesh on the surface of the stone, a soft thud echoing each time as she hit the rock over and over, muttering to herself, "All my life... I have ran away all my life, and hid when things got hard. I've been told that there are things I can't do -- because im weak, and because im frail. When my father, the King died... when my sister died! I only ran away and hid in my room."

Wet sky blue eyes raised to rest on her retainers. Streaks of tears trailed across her red cheeks, but she still wore that stubborn face, "I done pushing people away, and I'm done hiding. I won't sit and wait any longer for my sister to take care of things. I want to learn, and I want to get stronger. I-I... I can-n fight too."

Her declaration was short, and quickly followed by her pacing back to the tree line and surveying it for the largest, and most sturdy looking tree branch she could see. Kura grabbed it and slowly made her way back to the door, where she meticulously positioned the end of the wooden branch to fit in the crevice of the sealed door. "Garrett I have yet to apologize to you.... four years ago... after the coronation. You tried. I heard you... I want to say I am sorry. I was not myself, and it affected you too."

After the branch was held in the corner, pocketed by a fallen rock, she wiped her brow and leaned on it. Using what weight she had to try and pry apart the door. "I also want to promise you; I will never be like that again. I felt so helpless, and I hated it. So instead, I want to face everything with courage. I don't care if I am not the Hero, or particularly strong, or skilled. Because I am still a Princess of Hyrule, and I was born to aid my sister, and my kingdom."

Call it what you will --Willpower, Divine Intervention, Luck, Plot Power; but that damn door opened, leaving the princess grinning brightly like a child on their birthday. She wasted no time, sighing in relief and slipping through the cavity that was big enough for a man to squeeze by. Entering the unknown temple in search of gods know what, she placed her hands on her hips and inhaled. Maybe she already found what she was truly looking for. Or maybe there was more to it than that.

Garrett wasn't sure what to say when she had apologized to him. It left him stunned, unsure of how to proceed, or how to even respond! His cheeks grew red as he looked down, feeling rather uncomfortable now that Malikeith had been standing around them, and he didn't want to get berated for being so affected by her words, and he huffed, crossing his arms and hiding his face in the large collar of his robes. 

"You know you don't have to apologize for anything right? Whether you're a brat or not, it's my job to watch over you," he smirked, watching her efforts to get the door opened. Truthfully, he hoped they wouldn't, and that they'd go home empty handed so that he could at least say that she were safe. But another part of him was truly curious as to what was inside. 

So when the doors had finally opened, and Kura turned to them with a wide grin, the awe that swept over his face caught him off guard, as he looked to Malikeith in surprise. He was not expecting her to figure out how to open those doors so quickly, and now he began to wonder just why people never found the secrets within this temple. Getting in wasn't hard. But maybe getting out was.

"I get you feel like you have some kind of destiny to take part in for your sister, but... I mean, either history is really cruel to their companions or there is no record of there ever being anyone that helped the Princess or the Hero so significantly. I mean--other than the sages and whoever accompanies Link, there's a very consistent cycle of whom is involved and who is not," Garrett explained with concerned.

"I don't want you to think that I don't believe in your strength or ability. But we also shouldn't mess with the laws of nature. The very cycle itself has proven to be merciless to those who try to intervene," he frowned, peering into the dungeon carefully. "Though... I hope whatever we find in here is worth it..."

Oh how he longed for the days where it was just keeping the royals from being attacked by assassins and bandits. None of this awkward and down right morally merky relationship nonsense that he sensed going on between Garret and Kura. Of course it was that kind of thinking that had left him alone all these years, never being able to know the embrace of another or even a bond of brotherhood, It was duty and not much else. So in a sense, perhaps that deep, more brotherly bond that Garrett felt for the princess wasn't something his disproved of, but envied?

He found himself watching the specital before him, the declaration of defiance and desire to be more than what a grand destiny had planned. To be more than what's expected, a sentiment he could relate to on a variety of levels. He'd dealt with similar feelings when he was a young man in training. Expected to fail and run like his mother had, like it was the only thing his family would do. Destiny it seemed was something that was only a good thing when you were apart of the three, and even then it wasn't a solid garantee.

Garrett brought up valid points about the natural order of their world after all, Malikeith agreed oddly enough. These were the rules created by the godess and deities above, the same that had shattered the tri-force, the same that had taken their hero and the same that seemingly abandoned them to chaos. Perhaps a little change was in order, after all?

Kura through her own determination had pulled open the door and slipped through, something Malikeith found himself being alarmed at. He followed swiftly ensuring that as she rested briefly to enjoy the moment of accomplishment, he ended up in front, eyes looking through the gloom with ease. "While we are both impressed with your determination Kura, I refuse to allow you step one foot further without the proper protocol for entering unknown and possibly hostile territories. Garrett you remain close and in front while I cover the rear with Kura in the centre. That way she's protected as best we can given the situation. Now, Where to go from here, your highness?"[/color] He looked down at her with almost kindly eyes but the stern steel that seemed to fill is every movement remained, emotionally distant but still ever concerned for the young woman. So far the temple was nothing more than an moldy smelling ruin. Not that she was expecting more, but there was no writing on the walls or spoopy lit lanterns to really put the edge on. Following Mal's instruction she waited firmly for them to catch up and eagerly smiled up at the two of them. Of course she was getting the normal lecture from her retainers, but it was along with their approval to proceed into the temple, so in all she was not disappointed.

With a giggle she looked up to the older sheikah and nodded, "I am not asking that we barrell head into danger! Taking it slow is much more my preference as you have no idea what kinds of things can be lurking in here....," she said before tapping her hand on the hilt of her blade, "I am however hopeful that I will be able to properly show you how much I have been practicing." Unlike her sister that had trained with her tutors for years in sword play, Kura had only recently desired to pick up the blade. In her mind she thought it would be wise to know how to defend herself in case she was without Garrett or Malikeith (which was not often lemme tell ya ).

Before walking forward she raised her hand above her brow and squinted her eyes. Despite the small amounts of sunlight that peeks through the cracks in the stoney structure, it was still rather dark. "Do either of you have means of a light or a torch?... oh wait you can see in the dark..."

'Damn am I unlucky here', she thought before shuffling forward, supposing that she would just have to take it rather slow as she moved forward. "Maybe one of you t-two should lead... I am worried about stepping on something," she commented before moving to slip her hand into Garretts -- a common habit of her's when she was younger, if she was scared or frightened of something she insisted on holding his hand for comfort, but she had not done it in years.

Malikeith gave the go ahead for Garrett to lead them into the old, dusty temple, which he didn't really mind. He peered in, red eyes glowing as his head slowly sifted forward into the opening, looking for where they might go.  Narrowing his eyes, he knew that this would be a lot harder if Kura wasn't able to see. "This place has been visited by many heroes," he made note. "Heroes who bear no Sheikah blood. So there must be something here to make the sight a bit easier." 

Suddenly, Kura's hand clasped onto his, and his eyes widened and he looked to her in a startle. "Wh-whoa hey, what's the matter? Don't tell me you're chickening out already?" he chuckled, looking back into the temple and taking a step forward. "Let me see here..."

He started to walk forward, entering the enormous room. Still as the sands, everything was frozen in time, untouched for centuries, as it seemed. Or perhaps, that's what whatever lurked inside wanted you to think. With how easy it was to get inside, it's a real wonder why no one has ever tried looting the place. 

There was another set of doors, this time upon an elevated area with mossy, stone steps. On either side, there were two unlit torches. "Excellent," he said, carefully moving through the ruined room with Kura close behind him. "I think I might have some matches..." he sifted through his pockets quickly, pulling out a small paper box. Taking out one of the matchsticks, he swiped it across the flinted edge, dropping it into the torch. He did the same with the other.

SLAM.

Garrett turned back around, his arm hovering over Kura in instinct as the trio watched the entree door suddenly slam shut. The entire temple began to rumble beneath their feet; dust, broken pieces of the architecture, and leaves falling and crumbling in every direction.

And then it stopped. 

The sound of a lock clicking echoed through the surroundings, the source coming from the door between the torches. It appeared to unlock, triggered by the lighting of the flames.

"I have a really bad feeling about this."

Again he remained silent, doing his best to not read too much into the hand holding. It was just a young girl looking for comfort, that's what he told himself. There was nothing more to it. Except he knew there was and it was very much against his own personal code of how to conduct ones duty. You must never mix personal feelings with the task, how else are you to keep a clear head when the one you are...interested in is in danger? Kura had two well trained guards, willing to die for her. If she wanted a consort, they'd had to be willing to live for her.

His eyes darted to the two torches. "I wouldn't do tha-"[/color] His warning fell on deaf ears as Garrett went ahead and pulled the torches off, triggering the mechanism which pulled the door behind them shut, and unlocked the one in front. Malikeith placed his head in his hand and shook it. "Please...Please try to think several steps ahead of these things."[/color] He chastised his junior.

Regardless, it seemed that the temple was planned to act that way, or else they wouldn't have gotten very far. With his bow drawn Mal went ahead. "Keep Kura close." He ordered, not bothering with any pleasantries since there wasn't time for that nonsense. The Sheikah kicked at the doors, the boom echoing out and around the temple as he went into a crouch with his arrow pointed dead ahead, night vision eyes working overtime to pierce the gloomy vale that surrounded the explorers.

(Sorry it's so short and doesn't really add much, but I have no idea what I'm doing with this haha ^^ Never seen a Forrest temple in a Zelda game so I'm working off you guys.[/font]

shining bright she is like the sun, waiting there for her fate to come

The scent of sulphur filled her nose before the accent of light came into view. A smile started to spread on her lips in her relief for light, when the sudden sound of the door closing behind them sent her jumping back. Eyes searched for any indication of why, yet she only felt a deep rumble at her feet, and the click of a lock triggering. There was a mechanism in the door from the lit torches, and it made way for the space to open up.

Mal used his boot to gain entry into the next chasm and hesitantly Kura followed, her body always close to Garrett's in case anything was to jump out.

The light from the torches illuminated the ruin ahead of them, showing a large stone foyer, with several pillars and even some broken ones. The room however was rather empty, except for the large shadowy box that resided in the middle. She couldn't see it very well, and with the silence, assumed it was nothing important, until she stepped forward and the stone beneath her feet caved in. With another audible click, there was a slight rumbling and the sound of chains rattling in movement.

"AAAHHH!!" she screamed, trying to undo her mistake by stepping back. Except it was futile, and the chains stopped after the sound of a door opening.

Something was coming.

From the center of the room, there were faint sounds of water dropping, the pattern nigh-unrecognizable. The sound only describable as "Schloop".

Repeated sounds echoed in the room, and one by one they entered the light of the torch, though her guards could have seen them much farther away.

Chuchus, and a whole lot of them.

Oh boy, was Garrett already getting annoyed with Malikeith's backseat advice. As he had went to advise him not to light the torch, the room began to rumble and he was scolded for it. He groaned, turning around quickly as his eyes darted for Malikeith's. "What do you expect is gonna happen!? This place is riddled with traps and there's nothing else to do here, this is the only way to proceed! Did you just expect us to stand around and wait for something to happen?" 

He was quickly cut off by the Princess's shriek and the two of them had moved in carefully to keep her in their sights. As the door had slid open they slowly began to proceed further into the ancient hall. Garrett's eyes began to glow in the darkness as he kept the torch up beside the young princess as they continued further.

They came to a bitter halt when the sounds of something moist began to drop from the ceiling. Pulling back on Kura's arm, he put a hand up to motion for them to freeze in place, looking further past Malikeith to get an idea of what they were dealing with.

Suddenly the floors surrounding them were riddled with Chuchus, and they were slithering closer to them. "Alright, Kura, these things are easy. See the green and red ones? Those ones can't hurt you too badly. Just stab at them! Watch out for the yellow ones though, because they can electrify your weapon if you aren't careful." 

Before he could get a response from her, he quickly turned his back, pressing it against hers so that he wouldn't lose track of her. Blade in hand, he allowed for some of the chuchus to come toward him, taking a leap as he slashed at them and allowed them to explode into a burst of jelly.
