Post by Natho (and Cepha) on Dec 7, 2019 3:06:30 GMT -5
Evening was finally rolling in on Hyrule Castle Town, the sun covering the typically gray square in a blanket of orange. Natho was taking a moment to rest against the wall of a building nearby. Thankfully, he knew the owner. Otherwise, someone might tell him to scram. People could be so rude. Traffic had died down at this hour, and with it, the thrum of endless babbling, bargaining, and bartering. As he watched the remaining adults go about their business, Natho wondered about the band of heroes he had heard of. He'd heard many things in the form of rumors, some claiming they were up to this, another that they were avoiding that, another that their agents could be found here, still others that a messenger could be found there. Yet try as he might to find any actual members of the group to get in contact with, the rumors had proven time and time again only to be a means of sending him on a wild goose chase. He let out a deep sigh. Would he ever figure out a way to find them?
Nearby, Cepha, his guardian fairy floated peacefully, her icy glow casting a stark contrast between his shoulder and the rest of the scene. Ever aware of his changing moods, she spoke up near his ear. "You're thinking about them again, aren't you?" Natho hesitated, not keen to admit that, yet again, she had read his thoughts. Then he nodded slowly. "I've been out here for so many years, trying to find out everything I can about them. But it seems I am no closer to finding them now than I was when I first heard of them." Cepha's gentile voice let out a soft hum before she spoke. "You know, you really don't have to prove yourself to-" "Oh please!" Natho interrupted. "Don't start into that again. I know that you believe he'd just welcome me back with open arms--or... branches--but even if I could understand why you think so, there's no way I could forgive myself for what I've done. At least, not until some good comes of it."
A distinct silence fell between the two of them for about another minute, as he continued to watch the crowds go by, and Cepha once again pondered her difficult companion. His guilty fears were just so... irrational. She had difficulty trying to empathize with him when he wound himself up so much on such an ill-founded viewpoint. Finally, she asked him, "what are you going to do?"
Natho's gaze remained fixed on the shoppers in front of him, hoping he'd catch a glimpse of someone odd in the crowd. Hopefully, anything that smelled of "Heroes of Hyrule guild" would catch his attention. "Well, when the time comes, I'd best be ready, right?" "Right." "So, I should prepare myself as if I've already found a connection." Natho perked up at the thought of something he could do. helplessness had never been something he enjoyed. "I'll have to start trying to make a bit of profit, something more than enough to earn my 'daily bread.' I'll also have to make a shopping plan. Hopefully, I can remember the things I needed when I first traveled here, and try to think of ways to improvise anything I can't afford. And of course, I'll still keep an eye out for any pesky contacts sneaking about that I can maybe talk to."
His eyes shimmered as a wild, playful smile broke out, much to Cepha's delight. "Oh, Cepha, how can I possibly fail?" At this, Cepha's glow flickered a little. As pleased as she was with this sudden livening, she new there were still major obstacles to overcome, and didn't want Natho blind to them. "Let's see... you're an orphaned boy in the streets of a kingdom controlled by thieves, with hardly a rupee to your name. You're trying to find a group you know nearly nothing about how to find, or even what to look for, who could be anywhere, but they are most likely far from here, farther than you are prepared to travel. How could you fail?" Natho laughed. Cupping one hand around Cepha and drawing her closer, he spoke to her softly. "Oh Cepha," he whispered, "There's always hope."
