'CAUSE IT'S ALMOST LIKE YOUR HEAVEN'S TRYING EVERYTHING TO KEEP ME DOWN ~
Marin suddenly speaking up caught Cetus off guard, but she merely looked at Marin, listening to her fellow princess’ words. She nodded about the part about feeling weird about love, and certain expectations. It was all a relatable feeling for her, for sure, and she found she could relate closely to what was said. But she was shocked by Marin’s next words, an offer to help. Help with what? How could she possibly-
Oh.
For the first time in hours, she felt the blood rushing to her face, blush emphasized by the crackling fire. Her mind was in a panic. She couldn’t have meant anything but just what Cetus thought. Her mind went back to the way she leaned against her, holding onto her with no hesitation. How she had reacted when Cetus told her she was more fond of women. What she was proposing. It was all so obvious.
She was interested in the fairer sex, like she said before. She wasn’t the only lesbian here.
”You… I…”
Words jumbled together, and she hid her face, embarrassed, trying to breathe to calm herself. When she had finally relaxed a bit, she talked through her hands.
”You’re making a bold offer, but I… I’m not totally opposed. I could use the help, and I… This is embarrassing to say but you are very attractive and I enjoy your company and I… I… I don’t know how to phrase all this. I’m sorry.”
She stopped, lest her words be lost in a flurry of gay panic.
Marin only offered Cetus a friendly and inviting smile in response to her clearly flustered reaction. For a moment she thought the other was about to turn her down, but sure enough, Cetus relented and Marin felt her heart skip a beat. This... This was really happening. A little surreal, but she was beginning to understand her own feelings on the matter as well. Slowly but surely, she would gain a greater understanding of the world by exposing herself to new things. This was a very unexpected twist to what she thought would be a diplomatic endeavor, but not an entirely unwelcome one. In response to Cetus' stammering and stumbling about her words much like Marin had earlier, the princess... giggled in amusement.
"That's alright. It doesn't take a ladies' lady to recognize a beautiful woman~" Marin remarked rather light-heartedly. "I'm very fond of your dress, by the way. It has a certain mystery and allure to it that's very flattering." the princess would then go on to muse aloud, seeming to disregard how nervous Cetus was for a moment in favor of continuing to try and break the ice. She allowed those words to hang for a moment, considering her next words more carefully. "...To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel right now. But in my experience, the quickest way to clear that up is to try something new. So, would you like to try being partners, then? We do have a month left to see if this works for us~" Marin would finish rather invitingly. It was admittedly just an experiment at this point for her, a matter of validating these strange feelings in her heart rather than something official. She could very well learn she was mistaking them for something they were not, but it would take a long time for her to figure out on her own.

Partners. She pondered that word, the implications. Marin was very energetic, offering such a thing, and the more she toyed with it, the better it sounded. Another girl that found her attractive, that was willing to learn with her about this lifestyle. Having somebody to assist her feelings would speed things up, this was true. She looked away, needing a minute to think.
Well, also a minute to hide her face. The compliment on her dress was flattering, and sounded much more natural coming from the Hylian Princess than it did some suitor who only looked forward to taking it off of her. She smiled to herself, before standing up, moving spots from where she was sitting. Next thing Marin knew, Cetus was beside her, looking into the fire.
”Your dress is prettier. It brings out that twinkle in your eyes. But I appreciate the compliment nonetheless. And as for your offer… I should have caught on sooner, this is true. But yes. We do indeed have time to figure this all out, but I am okay with this. I’ll be your partner if you’ll have me.”
A short silence, then a small laugh came from Cetus.
”I feel like a handshake won’t seal this deal, so… How to we bind this contract?”
Marin could feel the remaining tension melt out of her body when Cetus sat beside her. Seeing Cetus demonstrate that she was now comfortable beside her told Marin that everything was going to be alright. She watched Cetus attentively still, a twinge of amusement creeping into her expression as the other tried to flatter her. The twinkle in her eyes..? That was some romantic language. She'd be lying if she said she didn't appreciate the focus upon her features that were available... at a glance, so to speak. Hearing her accept Marin's offer made her heart skip a beat. At what point did this become official? Should she be thinking about telling her sister right now?? A suddenly anxious Marin was lost in her thoughts for a moment, only to be snapped out of them when Cetus asked her a rather important question. ...A handshake wasn't enough? Well certainly not; when ever was a handshake appropriate for a princess? In all honesty, she'd noticed that Cetus didn't quite treat her with quite the smae level of ... attentiveness that her subjects usually had. It didn't really matter she supposed, in the sense that they were both royalty from different kingdoms, but it did draw her attention to the differing customs...
"...Oh? Well--Let me ask you something. How do the zora celebrate a newly formed relationship~? How do we 'bind the contract', as you put it~?" Marin would ask, still watching the other attentively. She was a bit curious as to just what kind of relationship she was dipping her toes into.
'CAUSE IT'S ALMOST LIKE YOUR HEAVEN'S TRYING EVERYTHING TO KEEP ME DOWN ~
A laugh came from Cetus, clear as a bell and light as a fairy.
”I don’t believe the normal consummation of relationships for the Zora applies in this case, dear. Besides, I’ve not an interest in any of that nonsense, especially not with some prince. I think… With something new like this, we’ll have to wing it.”
A number of ideas went through her head. A hug, a walk in the moonlight, a moonlight swim, even. But she found her hand unconsciously placed on Marin’s, and she jumped a little bit, looking down, before smiling and taking the hand in hers. Her eyes would meet Marin’s, the last of twilight fading as she tried to find a way to express her gratitude, to seal the deal.
She was shocked when she found herself moving forward to press a kiss to Marin’s lips.
It was light, chaste, almost hesitant, but sweet. Cetus pulled back, blushing, but smiling, and moved closer to the brunette, close enough that she could lean on the other girl. Smoothing her dress out, she laid her head on Marin’s shoulder, looking up at her to judge her reaction. Besides, being that close felt nice. For a little bit, she could feel like a normal person, and not a monarch with the weight of her people on her shoulders. She hoped Marin could feel that too, that sense of freedom and understanding.
In the rising moonlight, he eyes twinkled too, with hope for a good thing to grow from this.
Con...sumate? Had that word really just left Cetus' mouth? Marin found herself questioning whether she ought to be amused by a playful choice of words or afraid of the implications. Brr... And she thought she was taking things a little fast! The princess was jolted from her thoughts when Cetus took her hand in hers. Her eyes met the others and they shared a moment of unspoken desires before Marin found herself subconsciously puckering her lips to meet a kiss she'd barely realized was happening. Her chest tightened with anticipation and she found herself savoring the moment for all it was worth. As their sweet kiss broke, she found herself asking an important question. ...Had that felt right?
...Yeah, it kind of had. She supposed one learned new things about themselves every day! That still left the very anxiety causing prospect of telling her older sister, but at least she wasn't stuck in the hell that was self-doubt anymore. The small woman found herself being leaned upon, nearly falling over under Cetus' weight. However, she quickly balanced herself against the other and wrapped an arm around Cetus' waist in response, cuddling her rather clingily and leaning into her in return. Judging by the way the tension melted from her body and she went soft against the other, she was quite the clingy type and was enjoying this sort of closeness quite a bit. Funny, how destiny pulled their strings to bring them together like this...
" . . . "
It was going to be a nice night. Now all that was left was the morning.
'CAUSE IT'S ALMOST LIKE YOUR HEAVEN'S TRYING EVERYTHING TO KEEP ME DOWN ~
Day came sooner than Cetus would have liked. Though they spent much of the time of the moon’s rise together, with idle chatter and little bits of affection, the fact stood that they had to sleep. The guards moved in as they retired to the tent, cots furnished with furs and pillows. A light kiss was pressed to Marin’s head before Cetus climbed into her own cot, curling up. A small smile and flushed cheeks were hidden as she thought of what transpired, giddy as a teenage girl. She was happy, and slept well because of it.
Daylight brought some shuffling outside, and confused, stirred from her slumber, Cetus sat up, rubbing away exhaustion. The sound was her guards mumbling about something, and it piqued her curiosity. A day dress was slipped over her slip, and she stepped out of the canvas shelter, beholding what was before her. The guards were surrounding a small beast, a little fox of pure white color that was walking with a limp. The poor thing was hurt, and its foot was being bandaged. When the guards saw Cetus, the stood at attention, save the one fixing the fox up, and saluted.
“Ma’am, this creature was attacked by Moblins last night. We defeated the monsters, but it was injured bad enough that we worry for its survival. What should we do?
Compassion for all life above all. That was the belief Cetus had. She leaned down, slowly, before the beast, looking at it, and held out a hand. It recoiled, teeth showing, but she smiled, and pulled her hand back. With a gesture, she had one of her guards bring her some dried fish, and she held it out, like an offering. The canine sniffed it, before taking it from her, chewing slowly. Only then did it let her pet it, hands running along its hair.
”It can’t be more than a baby. Was the mother killed? If so, bring it with us, at least until it gets better.”
She then looked back, seeing if Marin had woke up too, before the fox caught her attention. A laugh was coaxed from Cetus as it licked at her hand, begging for more food.
”And bring the poor thing some fish, it must be starving.”
Minutes could draw on an eternity when one loathed what was going on enough. ...They could also slip by in a nanosecond in the throughs of passion. It was humanity's greatest curse, damned to remember the bad times with far greater weight than the good. For that evening, however, where the two princesses had been allowed to explore their feelings in ways they hadn't imagined--well, Marin hadn't put much thought into it anyway--everything had felt just right with the world. For that seemingly brief span of what must have been hours in hindsight, Marin had forgotten her troubles. All she could think about was what she was going to tell her family if this worked out.
...That was a problem.
So excited was the hyrulian royalty that she could not fall asleep, her mind awash with fantasies of a future between the two of them. Oddly enough, this future included children. Marin chose not to think too hard into that one, decidedly not wanting to question which part of her brain gave her the bright idea that that would be a thing. Perhaps in her tired delirium she'd simply not been all there enough to question it. Either way, it took her quite a while to fall asleep and when she woke up she felt like a mess. Her internal clock had woken her up on time, but the rest of her body was begging for more sleep. ...Oh well. Detecting a case of bedhead, Marin would produce a little brush and begin fixing and primping her hair. It was then that she noticed Cetus had woken up slightly before her and was tending to a tiny creature. Watching the other act in good faith brought Marin peace, the newly awakened princess greeting Cetus with a rather goofy smile when she caught the other checking on her. She looked too ridiculous to act dignified right now, but was quickly getting through all the little knots and taming that bedhead. Thankfully, her hair was fairly tame naturally and didn't require an enormous amount of effort to please.
"Speaking of food..." Marin began, putting some finishing touches on her hair. "May I interest you in some breakfast that will help keep your head clear during your meeting with the gorons later today?" the princess would go on to offer rather cheerily. Before Cetus could object on one of many perfectly sane reasons not the least of which 'where are you keeping your ingredients', however, Marin had placed her brush down and begun doing something entirely more interesting with her hands. She seemed to grasp at the air before her bosom, focusing in on an invisible object in her hands and then... willing it into existance! A cloud of arcane energy whirled past her fingers and condensed in her grasp taking shape and form before their very eyes! An ethereal crystal plate snapped into existance with matching silverware, atop which laid a small stack of warm pancakes glistening with partially melted butter and a sweet blueberry sauce. Not only was this a meal you'd be hard pressed to make while out camping, but there was a good chance it wasn't even in season. Standing up, Marin meandered over to Cetus and offered her the plate with an ever so casual smile on her face. Oh look at me, creating something out of nothing like it isn't a big deal. Aren't I just outrageous?
...The meal itself was perfect for what it was and then some, nutritious and fortified with magical energy that might just leave one longing for more for the rest of their days. Whether that's ominously addicting or not depended on the individual.
'CAUSE IT'S ALMOST LIKE YOUR HEAVEN'S TRYING EVERYTHING TO KEEP ME DOWN ~
As the small creature was taken by Cetus’ guard, she greeted Marin with a smile and light kiss, mumbling good morning. Imagine her shock, however, when the other princess conjured food from midair! What a magic! It was certainly a shock to her, but she was thankful nonetheless. Besides, it had been years since she last had pancakes that looked so good.
After their meal, the camp was deconstructed, as Cetus sat with Marin, the small creature in her arms. The young fox had eaten its fill, and was sleeping in her arms, finally trusting of her. Perhaps her magic could influence it? She couldn’t help but wonder. Her head rested against Marin’s shoulder as she watched her guard work, and she mused out loud.
”It’s been years since I’ve even been to Death Mountain, and years since we’ve met under the pretense of peace, and not enemies. I’m not eager to do this, but willing. There needs to be peace between our people. Perhaps you can come along, as well, and speak for your people. The Royal Family is long misplaced in the world, long overdue, and maybe it’s time to take steps forward.
In addition… What shall we do when we leave the Gorons? I would very much like to ally myself with you, as well, and I feel a meeting with your sister may be of merit. My father has always had good relations with the Hyrule royal family, despite his… Ways of old. But I intend to take rule as soon as I can, with the ailment afflicting him. My elders are in deliberation as we speak. It would be best if we made a treaty sooner than later.
