PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION:
Above respect for life and good, or disregard for life and promotion of evil, the Sarutobi places randomness and disorder. Good and evil are complimentary balance arms. Neither are preferred, nor must either prevail, for ultimate chaos would then suffer. This view of the cosmos holds that absolute freedom is necessary. Whether the individual exercising such freedom chooses to do good or evil is of no concern. After all, life itself is law and order, so death is a desirable end. Therefore, life can only be justified as a tool by which order is combated, and in the end it too will pass into entropy.
Sarutobi believes that there is no order to anything, including his own actions. With this as a guiding principle, He tends to follow whatever whim strikes him at the moment. Good and evil are irrelevant when making a decision. Sarutobi is extremely difficult to deal with. He been known to cheerfully and for no apparent purpose gamble away everything he has on the roll of a single die. He is almost totally unreliable unless he has an interest in whatever it is he is doing.
Sarutobi likes to indulge in everything. He will at least consider doing anything if he can find enjoyment or amusement. Life has meaning, but his has the greatest meaning. According to him, laws and rules infringe on personal freedom and were meant to be broken. Always looking for the best deal, he will work with good, neutral, or evil to get it; as long as he comes out of the situation on top. He is constantly teetering between good and evil, rebelling, and bending the law to fit his needs.
He may shift allegiances at a moment's notice, or remain with one for years. Sarutobi feels that there is no plan at all for the universe. Things just happen. He doesn't care what happens to others, yet will not necessarily go out of his way to harm others. If someone stands in the way of his happiness, he may kill that individual or move on to something else. His priorities tend to change as he experiences new things in life. He may even appear to adhere to another alignment for some length of time, only to switch at an inappropriate moment. He can be the worst trickster, conning people, not for gain, but for sheer amusement. Sarutobi may not be driven by fame or wealth, but may only take actions just to see what happens.
Sarutobi views ultimate freedom and disorder as most desirable. He sees good and evil in a secondary role, and neither should be allowed to interfere with pure chaos. Whether the he chooses to do good or evil is of no concern. He will almost always seek some selfish goal (such as a gain of power) in addition to the promotion of universal disorder, and is thus seen as "greedy" by others. Naturally, the he won't see this as greed, but rather as "self-fulfillment." Thus, respect for others does not stand in the way of the pursuit of individuality. Since death is inevitable anyway, Sarutobi isn't averse to speeding certain creatures on their ways if it's deemed necessary, although he won't go out of his way to inflict pain and suffering like an evil being would. Life can only be justified as a tool by which order is combated.
Sarutobi will keep his word if it serves his interests. He may attack an unarmed foe if he feels it necessary. He will not kill, but may harm an innocent unless provoked. He may use torture to extract information, but never for pleasure. He may kill for pleasure, but is not likely to do so. He may help those in need and he prefers to work alone, as he values his freedom. He does not respond well to higher authority, is distrustful of organizations, and will disregard the law in pursuing his self-interest. He may betray a family member, comrade, or friend, but only in the most dire of situations. Sarutobi does not respect the concepts of self-discipline and honor, because they believe such concepts limit freedom to advance their self-interest.
However, he does have some form of a code of honor, as he is unwilling to fight an injured opponent, wanting to defeat them at their full strength. When in a battle, he becomes incredibly fierce and aggressive. Sarutobi is also a very emotional person and lets his emotions control him from time to time. Losing those close to him have a huge affect on his personality, and motives; making him very distant from others for a while. While appearing to be a laid-back individual, this scruffy exterior hides Sarutobi's brutal, impulsive, excessively-violent personality and a lethally-short temper. However, despite his aggression and obvious blood lust in battle, Sarutobi possesses a feral cunning and has a knack for quickly exploiting any opening his opponent reveals. Sarutobi has an undeniable talent for thinking things through well in advance, making decisive and accurate decisions quickly in battle, and seemingly perceiving any situation at hand. He is a crafty tactician, easily deceiving both allies and enemies. In battle, he regularly uses cunning and deception to catch his opponents off-guard. He is a very analytical man, quickly seeing through an opponent's power and attack patterns to ultimately make them useless against him.
At various points in time, he may challenge the strongest members of his guild, or even a god or goddess to fight him. Due to his reckless nature, Sarutobi's fights usually end with widespread destruction. Sarutobi's love of fighting has allowed him to develop a rather strategic mind, helping him to, on various occasions, find weaknesses in his opponent's techniques, or simply weaknesses his opponents themselves possess. Sarutobi has also defeated his opponents with pure wit, rather than raw power. Sarutobi, befitting his recklessness and love of fighting, never backs out of a fight.
Growing up he was stubborn, short-tempered, strong-willed, and impulsive. After being tortured for most of his life in a basement his mental and emotional state became extremely unstable to the point of insanity. More often than not Sarutobi's actions are that of a mad man. He does not care what people think of him, either. As someone who chooses to lead his life how he sees fit, the opinions of others are of no concern and will often express this to someone who has ill thoughts of him. His outspoken, hot-headed demeanor is a trait he himself has acknowledged, and if somebody picks a fight with him, he cannot help fighting back. .
Sarutobi hates anyone whose trade involves taking money from people for things they cannot see or benefit from. He has difficulty remembering people's faces and names. He becomes extremely turned on and uncontrolling around nude or immodestly dressed women, and may touch or do inappropriate things to them without their consent. He is often disrespectful when talking to those older than himself, calling older men "gramps" and referring to some older woman as "old hag."
When it comes to fighting, Sarutobi is an unstoppable monster; he regularly seeks to exact revenge for the cruel actions of his opponent. He often taunts and belittles his opponents when fighting, sometimes attacking without warning. He has a strong desire to win his fights, but in what he views as a legitimate manner. To this end, he has often refused the aid of his allies, even when knowing it would allow him to win. His resolve in battle is unmatched and it often grows the angrier he gets.
Sarutobi's two dominant traits are his apparent rage bursts and his utter fearlessness. He can easily be amazed by the simplest things due to being locked up his entire life. He likes monsters and will ask weird creatures to join his guild every chance he gets but usually gets stopped by Umbra. He also has no knowledge of medicine and may attempt ridiculous ways to help someone that is injured or sick. He is rarely disturbed by violence or blood as he has fought his entire life. Even the worst battlefields rarely disturb him except when it involves a friend or relative as in the case of seeing his girlfriends corpse. He is seemingly un-phased by the most horrifying sights begging the question as to what tragic backstory he has gone through to be un-phased by such things. In a day to day life, he usually reacts to things slow depending on his mood, as if saving all his energy for an upcoming fight.
The same cannot be said when he is on the field of battle, though; he has been known to dodge quick magic with ease. It has been noted more than once that Sarutobi's instinct and behavior is similar to that of a wild animal's, like knowing who he has to fight before he even gets to the battle. Even his fights show this as he relies on his instincts and counter attacks. This compliments the way he views the world. He is most often seen grinning, except in a fight where he is forced to use all his power (and sometimes even then). He also seems to rarely change personality wise. Because he views the world in a straightforward and simple manner, he is occasionally the only person who can see past events that have taken place and realize the true goal
Sarutobi tries to be very straightforward about what he wants to be and how he feels, which is why he usually acts and says what he wants to do rather than think it. Sarutobi's simple attitude and naïve comments during fights are often mistaken by his opponents as poking fun at them. Due to this, many of his opponents lose their cool and charge at him in anger. While he is goofy and reckless, he gets quite serious when anyone is in serious danger, notably his guild, whom he considers his family. Sarutobi also has the tendency to unwittingly poke fun at an opponent's most sensitive trait. Sarutobi, however, has maintained that he is always serious during fights. In most cases, once he starts to fight he maintains a serious attitude and is only seen laughing once he defeats the enemy or is certain the enemy will be defeated.
In battle, he has shown signs of intelligence, high tactical and innovative skills. He can easily adapt to hindering situations and make the best out of the worst. Sarutobi also has a habit of saying things with a lot more weight and (occasionally) wisdom than he realizes without even thinking or meaning to.
The one thing that he does not allow is someone or something getting involved in another person's fight. At these times Sarutobi shows both remarkable restraint during the battles, and rage when something or someone outside the battle is involved, especially if it is a person he considers an ally. Sarutobi showed this in his past when he had to watch his best friend get beaten to near death by another man before finally exploding into the battle the moment his friend was defeated.
Sarutobi's personality is like that of a child's, in the sense that he tends to go to the extremes. He can either be extremely greedy, especially in cases of food, who his guildmates are, and adventure; or extraordinarily selfless, going so far as to virtually sacrifice himself to avenge or protect his friends, and guild, thought this is a very rare thing for him to do and he must care about said person considerably. This childish mentality of his allows him to get to the root of the problem, and allows him to figure out the most simple way of solving it.
Sarutobi also has an extreme thirst for adventure, which he has stated is the main reason he causes so much trouble in the world, believing that the root of the ultimate adventure is using the world as his playground. Because of this adventurous nature, he tends to avoid taking 'the easy way out' at times. Sarutobi has no actual sense of caution and in fact, has been known to literally laugh in the face of danger and walk into potentially harmful situations with a massive grin.
When his wife was betrayed him and created the hole in his abdomen, the mental and emotional strain of of the experience him to fall into a catatonic state. After waking from this state, Sarutobi flew into a rage and went on a destructive rampage to vent his grief and anger. Just mentioning what happened will depress him and mocking it would send him into another rage, targeting the one who did it.
LIKES:
- Fighting: When it comes to fighting Sarutobi's mind is a steel trap. He knows all of the ins and outs and is always ready to adapt to what the situation needs. His love for fighting goes too far sometimes in the fact that he will even challenge the gods themselves to a fight. Though nobody is sure if this is on purpose or if Sarutobi just naturally draws fights to himself, he typically can get into a fight over anything. He once got into a fight with his wife about whether hot sauce should be put into ramen or not and the two ended up destroying their entire home.
- Food: Sarutobi's love for food is on par with his love for fighting. Due the amount of energy he consumes on a day to day basis he needs to consume an inhuman amount of food. This is further enhanced due to his own abilities and his stomach is sometimes referred to as a furnace. Despite his overly high digestive abilities, his own energy burns away everything he eats as fuel for his body far faster than most. The more delicious the food the faster he can refuel and is one reason Sarutobi loves a woman who can cook like his wife used to cook.
- Training: Almost like a vicious cycle, he loves to train and has created a chain of eating, training, then fighting. He eats to gain energy and trains to become more powerful. Then uses this new found strength in future battles. It wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary for Sarutobi to disappear for years at a time on some insane training adventure only to return with a completely different aura about him. Although he can train alone, he prefers to train with someone can keep up with him.
