This fucking desert. Sekne may have loved her queen, but it was clear she went to extremes when it came to planning things out. And her company in her crossing was of the whiny type, though if she was who she claimed to be, she was too valuable to let go.
But, as the sun began its caress of the horizon, they made it to the camp, and Sekne breathed a sigh of relief, taking her hood off, wincing at the sunburn on her hands. A small price to pay to please Midna, though.
"Keep bellyaching, and you'll wish this was a cruel joke. Until our Queen confirms who you are, I-"
Midna's voice made her jump a little, and she turned, bowing her head in respect to Midna, but looked up when she said the girl's name. She was who she said she was after all, huh? With a sigh, she made a show of twirling her balisong shut, pocketing it with a flourish and putting her hands behind her head.
"Went looking in Castle Town for any Twili, and came across Miss Rizali here among them. Glad to hear I didn't just bring a traitor in, though. Shall I take my leave, Your Majesty?"
"Well, why didn't you just say so? Our talk could have been sunshine and butterflies over a nice cuppa tea in that case! I'd be glad to leave you here and- Pfffffft!"
She let out a suppressed laugh, before flicking her knife back open and looking at the blade, making sure it caught the glint of what little sunlight filtered through, making the reflection dance ever so close to Rizali's face.
"Not a chance! I don't know if you're lying or not, so if you're coming with me, miss Court Mage, you best pack your bags quick and then we can get a move on. I've no time to dilly dally, and I'll be mighty pleased to hear our Queen confirm your status."
She flicked the knife shut, eyes darting up to make contact with Rizali's and she smiled, deceptively sweet.
"The only regret I'd have for the alternative is widening what I assume is such a pretty smile, but I'd get no less pleasure out of it. Off you pop, I won't be far behind at all."
"One of the usurpers? Are you okay in the head? I'm- Oh, forget it!"
With a frustrated sigh, she stepped back, taking the knife from Riza's throat, and flicked it shut, storing it away in its holster. She crossed her arms, giving the other Twili a stern look. Not an usurper? Or was she pulling a fast one? She wasn't good at running, but maybe it was a trap. Pity, she never liked going into those without a plan, but she had to make do.
"If you're really not going to snitch to whatever ass sits on that throne right now, get to talking. You're in the presence of Her Highness' personal assassin, and I've short time for liars. Either convince me why I should let you go, or cower against that wall some more so I have some entertainment."
The feeling of a pulse under her arm, held across the breastbone of the other Twili, brought a flood of adrenaline to her. It was always such a pleasure to deprive Pem his court, and she was lucky enough to find her newest target and prove herself to Midna, show her utter loyalty. It was a shame this girl was a traitor, she was cute, but Sekne's only love was for her princess.
But then she paused, blade dancing against flesh, as the other Twili spoke, and she blinked, a look of confusion painting her face. She spoke of her ursurper? Midna was nothing of the sort. Unless...
"Hold on there, who do you mean, my usurper? You're the traitor that serves the false leader, I serve my princess. Explain what you mean!"
She kept the blade honed on the girl, but it was pulled back. She was lucky her tongue gave her the chance to explain herself, silence was often earned a lot earlier by those in this position.
She knew it. A cowardly supporter of the usurper, or at least a coward with something to hide. It had been so long since she'd had a proper chase, and a few meandering Hylians shied away as she smiled, drawing her blade with a flourish and taking off in the direction of the other Twili. Using glamours to blend in, it was to be expected of Pem's bootlickers.
She took off in chase, elbowing Hylians aside in her pursuit. It was fortunate both had to stick to the shadows, as it limited escape routes. But the girl was quicker than she expected, and she seemed to know her way around. But where she was familiar with the area, Sekne was crafty, vaulting obstacles between them. She might be able to catch up around the corne-
She almost burst out in a laugh when the other Twili tripped and fell, stopping for the briefest second before dashing the twenty paces between them, grabbing the other Twili by her arm and forcing her into an alleyway, out of view as she pointed her weapon at the other woman's heart.
"Traitors run, love, and you were too quick to give yourself up. Any final words, betrayer?"
"Stupid city... Stupid Hylians... Of all the blasted places to send me, it had to be here..."
Wayward glances were given by the evening crowds to the young Twili, holding her hood over her face as she avoided eye contact with any of these simpletons. Sure, they were rejoicing in war no longer plaguing their land, but they were in her way. Her princess had speculated on the presence of more Twili in this realm, especially with conflicts at a lull, and Sekne had the privilege of coming to Castle Town to look.
And if one more of the lightfolk bumped into her again, they'd be short a couple finge-
And, lo and behold, she turned a corner, skirting the shadows, and found herself directly in someone's path. She barely slid to the side to avoid a collision, and pivoted on her foot, fists clenched.
"Oi, watch where you're wa-"
Her anger cut off as she realized just who it was she was looking at. No one distinctive, but a Twili was hard to miss in a sea of lightfolk. It was almost instinct for her to reach back, hand on her knife, and she kept eye contact with the stranger.
"Well, I'll be damned... I'm not the only one of us here."
Ash she came to, her coughs were dry and painful, and she convulsed with every involuntary hack, eyes opening. It was still dark, she was having trouble adjusting to the area around her, but she knew there was people. And then water, sudden and shocking, coaxing another fit of coughs from her, most of it ending up on the bed and her chest, and then her eyes adjusted.
"Where... Am I..."
People, and specifically Twili, around her, tending to her. One holding a waterskin that she weakly reached up for, grabbing. Cool water cascaded down her throat, as she gulped greedily, before dropping it and falling back onto her bed. She felt like she'd been dragged through a wringer, every muscle sore, but the bed was comfortable to lie in, at least. But she had a mission, she had to find her people, her queen-
And then she looked to her side, eyes taking a moment to focus before going wide at seeing Midna sitting at her bedside. Her queen. She would jolt, but she lacked the energy, and so instead just babbled like an idiot before speaking.
She hated sand, so much. Nothing about it was pleasant, if was coarse and getting everywhere. But Sekne had a goal in mind that surpassed her own needs, a duty to her people and queen.Still, these conditions in the Light Realm were less than ideal, and she found herself having to walk with the wind, a cloth covering her mouth to keep the sand out of it. She had walked through a part of the afternoon, all of the evening, and now the moon overlooked her trek into the desert, high in the sky. It was her only companion.
I need to find them... I heard they were this way.
Sighing as she came across another dune she had to cross, she shakily uncorked her waterskin, moving the cloth briefly to press the leather to her lips. To her dismay, however, only a small trickle of water came out. She was out of water. Cursing under her breath, she let it drop, hanging from its strap, taking a deep breath, and began the ascent, legs, arms and chest burning from the exertion.
It has to be soon... I must be close...
It was no sooner than when she reached the top that her legs decided to give out, and she pitched forward, hardly able to react before hitting sand. And she began to roll, tucking her arms into her head as best she could. She cried out weakly in pain the few times she bounced, landing hard on the sand, until finally she came to a stop at the bottom of the dune, on her back. She turned her head to the side, coughing and spitting up sand, and in the distance, saw the flickering of some sort of light. But everything was blurry, and her head felt heavy. She went to cry out for help, but only coughed again, a hand weakly reaching out for help before it fell. She felt her eyes drooping, heavy, and there was only one thought in her mind.
MOONSHADOW WALK: Sekne's Triforce Shard grants her the power of the Twilight Realm, specifically when under the black expanse of night. When under moonlight, her skin changes from its normal tone to practically invisible, only noticable by a faint glowing of her eyes.
