PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION: Marik has underwent many changes in personality over the years, many things of great importance have happened within Hyrule and a lot of them have deeply involved Marik, this stranger within the land of Hyrule who hails as the First Prince to the fallen Kingdom of LeVain. His original royal upbringing had Marik raised as a fine young Prince, he was chivalrous and leader-like as he was taught by his father to one day be a kind King once his father had passed on to the next world. He learned basic swordsmanship, jousting and archery though later in life he would prove to excel mostly at swordsmanship.
Since Marik had crossed the Sea of Storms, Marik found himself in the land of Hyrule which had a sort of magical mystique about it that piqued his interest. Marik quickly joined up with the army of Hyrule at a young age as he had already been trained in swordsmanship at a much younger age than most people would, he excelled quickly. Marik was always the type of person to strive to be better at something no matter how good he already was at it though this also poses as a flaw in himself as he is never quite satisfied with anything he does at the same time. Time passed and Marik matured into a young adult as well as becoming the captain of the guard. With this position Marik was in control of a certain group of soldiers and thus he was able to put his leadership skills to work. Leadership is a role that Marik is able to fill with relative ease, while he has high expectations for subordinates or followers, he is a forgiving leader and is always up for helping those that need it.
It wasn't until the revelation of the 'Hero', an idea which Marik would quickly grow to dislike since it was so much different from his home. Marik had remained the same but when one of his subordinates, someone whom he had trained with personally, Link, was named the Hero to be, Marik became dissatisfied with himself once more. A trait which certainly included an amount of jealousy behind it because he had come so far only to have some nobody come along and take his trophy away from him in a metaphorical sense. From that day forward Marik became rather aloof and slowly succumbed to a God whom had chosen Marik to be his vessel. It was thought for quite some time that Marik whom had become one with Seith would never be the same again. When fused with Seith his personality adopted some of the traits that Seith himself had.
From this point on Seith was much more in control. Seith was a jealous God who held a certain distaste for Link and also wished to free Hylia from her human form. He was very much so like a highly amplified version of Marik's own personality. Seith's will was law to him, if no one would obey what he wishes then he would simply prove his dominance over whatever stood in his way and then assert his will upon whom and whatever he wished. Seith had a cold exterior though once deep in conversation with him he was rather sly and playful in his manner of speech and antics though that was not to be confused with how serious he was at all times despite how he may have been 'coming off'.
Upon the return of the Old Gods, Seith was 'expelled' from Marik's body so that Marik may return to himself. Marik was not punished as deeply as the other two involved in the issue because it hadn't been directly Marik's fault as a mere human cannot simply resist the will of a God even if said human was blessed by the Goddess of Power. When Seith was expelled from Marik, all the pain that had been forced upon Marik by Seith was also ripped from his body which recreated the feeling of it all over again. Marik was left in agony as the power of a God left his body and with that the gods whisked away Marik to parts unknown. Marik wakes up finding himself a much different person than he had been before, knowing that he had been through a lot though not remembering exactly what it had been, many though that Marik had died. Marik now searches to bring the pieces of his memory back with the guidance of a red fairy companion, Compa, who seems to know more about Marik than Marik himself does at the moment. Acting as his guide, Compa and Marik set out to return to Hyrule once more and unfold Marik's new-found mysteries.
LIKES:
- Swordsmanship: Since a very young age Marik has been taught the art of swordsmanship and he is rather good at it. Not only is it something that he excels at but it is also something that he honestly enjoys whether it's a friendly sparring match or a battle between life and death.
- Traveling: Since the moment that Marik had been paired up with Compa he has found a new love for adventuring, he doesn't much like to stay in one play for too long and with Compa at his side he is certain he will never truly be lost in the land of Hyrule.
- A good drink: As Marik is considered an adult and has been for some time, what good adventurer doesn't enjoy a trip to the tavern for a little rest and relaxation time? There's no better way to unwind after a long day of exploring than sitting at the tavern bar and enjoying a drink or two(12).
DISLIKES:
- Bandits: Those annoying highwaymen or thieves who have began to pop up all around Hyrule due to the on-setting lawless nature due to the dethronement of the ruling family. Those weaklings are so annoying...
- Small-talk: Marik is more of a direct type of person, if he has something important to say then he will certainly voice himself though when it comes to those times where people are forced with either silence or thinking of any and everything they can to talk about in order to pass the time, Marik finds this type of talk unnecessary in most situations.
- Link Fanboys/girls: While there are many things that Marik cannot remember, he certainly still remembers the way he feels about Link as well as how Seith felt about him as the two seemed to share the same thoughts on that topic. Marik had known Link on a personal level as he had trained Link more than a few times when he was both a normal soldier and Captain of the Guard. Seith and Marik find that the idea of the 'Hero' and the chaos that entails the cycle are unnecessary for the continuation of humanity and seek to end the cycle, preferably peacefully.
MOTIVATIONS:
- Destiny: Marik has for the longest time believes that an outsider to Hyrule like himself who was given Din's blessing and even made it across the Sea of Storms and ultimately ended up in Hyrule by random chance was meant to do something great. While most of the things that Marik has accomplished especially as of recently haven't been all that 'great' Marik personally accepts that his path to success must be riddled with many failures.
- Restoration of Hyrule: Marik, lead with the guidance of Compa is on his way to return to Hyrule which he has head has fallen into chaos and so he wishes to speak to the queen and offer his help. As former Captain of the guard on top of simply being who he is he knows it is the right thing to do.
- Ending the Cycle: One of the most deepest seeded beliefs that Marik has that many Hylians would certainly not agree with. Marik has witnessed how the world outside of Hyrule is like and noticed significant differences. Hyrule seems to be cursed with falling into chaos every so hundred years and is trapped within a 'cycle' of repeating occurrences which all trace back to one common source among all of them, Link, the Hero. While the people of Hyrule seem to think that they depend on this hero of Legend to save them each and every time, Marik cannot help but think that this 'Hero' is half if not the whole problem. Marik wishes to bring and end to the Hero Cycle and show the Hylians that they are capable of defending themselves and do not need said Hero.
FEARS:
- Darkness: Marik doesn't have a literal fear of the dark, Marik fears the darkness that he can feel within him. While he may not remember all that he had done or went through during the time that Seith slowly coaxed him into being Seith's vessel but there is still a remnant feeling that lingers within Marik.
- Compa: While Compa and Marik have been companions now for a handful of months, Marik still has no idea where Compa came from, Marik simply woke up with Seith's powers supposedly expelled from his body in the middle of a forest with Compa at his side awaiting his consciousness. Part of Marik considers the possibility that Compa could simply be a fragment of Seith that is projecting itself from his mind into reality, possibly to lead him to bring Seith back once more as Marik can certainly feel that not all of Seith's powers had left him.
- Failing Compa: The fear that Marik has of Compa that in actuality the fairy might be Seith is very real though it is only partial and stays ticking around in the back of his mind. Compa has yet to lead Marik astray and as far as Marik can tell, Compa wants nothing more than to help him achieve his goals and the destiny that Marik has always felt he was born for, his greater purpose.
HISTORY: Marik's story begins far away from the land of Hyrule, Marik was born the first Prince and heir to the LeVain Kingdom, a Kingdom of moderate size within the Mainland who had a slow but thriving agricultural system which sustained not only the King whom was a rather gracious on but the people in the surrounding towns as well. Within the LeVain Kingdom under Claus LeVain, Marik's father, no one starved and the people were generally happy. This all changed when another King from a Kingdom not too far off from the LeVain Kingdom, rivals to Marik and his father crown, became jealous of their physical wealth and connection with their people. The King of this Kingdom was a rather cruel one and treated his subjects like they were nothing more than warriors or slaves and so he began secretly amassing an army until the day he rode upon the gates of the unsuspecting LeVain Kingdom. The castle was taken easily and not many would survive the tragedy, in fact as far as Marik knows he is the only surviving member of the LeVain Kingdom and the heir to its throne. Marik was sent out on a boat by his father, taken away by guards against his will as he pleaded to stay with his family in that dark time. Only two guards accompanied Marik as they set off to escape when they were caught in a rough storm. This was no ordinary storm however as they had accidentally entered the Sea of Stormy, a section of Sea said to be impassable by mortal means.
The two guards that accompanied Marik had perished along the way and now the young boy was alone on a small wooden boat essentially lost in the most dangerous sea. Any normal child would surely have perished just like the guards that were sent with him though Marik was somehow special, blessed by the Goddess of Power herself, Din. Marik had the strength to survive and eventually his ship washed up on the shores of Hyrule. Marik was still just a kid and he had no money, at least not rupees, a strange currency to him that the people of Hyrule used so he became a street urchin, living on the streets of castle town for quite some time, often taking on odd jobs until he had saved up enough money to buy himself a sword. After purchasing a sword he began practicing in private on the outskirts of town and from time to time found himself in skirmishes with bandits. One day Marik encountered a group of bandits on the outskirts of town and had promptly defeated them though what he hadn't noticed is that an envoy of guards had been coming back through town with the royal family. The captain of the guard had watched Marik and took notice of his skill with sword and knew that he was no random person trying to use a sword, Marik had proper training in his past and knew what he was doing. On their way through the Captain offered Marik a spot to join the Soldiers and begin training with them. While he was too young to participate in anything major, it was a start.
Marik quickly took the offer and was instructed to report to the garrison the following morning. Marik watched as the envoy rolled out, waiting for it to be out of sight before jumping for joy. He was excited because for the first time in a long time he felt that he had a purpose, something to work at and something to work for once more after the fall of his Kingdom and the death of everyone he knew and loved. For the longest time he had felt so alone so he had hoped that this would make him finally feel as if he belonged in this strange and new land. Marik went to the barracks the next day and was issued his armor and a new sword, one of much better quality than the one he had saved up to buy himself, he felt like a soldier now. During his time as a soldier Marik's fate would change drastically and be effected by those around him. As he grew into a young adult and was allowed to do much more as a soldier Marik met another young man roughly around his age named Link. Link was a decent soldier but Marik had essentially been the senior to any new member since he had been a soldier for quite some time. Marik rarely trained with the other as he found his methods of personal training much better than the mundane methods of training that the soldiers were put through every day though Marik found himself from time to time teaching Link a few things and sparring with Link.
Marik worked hard for quite some time and eventually he was promoted to the Captain of the Guard of Hyrule and for a short time he was proud of himself, not because he didn't think that he could do it but because he knew he could do it and he indeed did. His achievement was very short lived and Marik was only proud of himself for a short time because soon after the 'Hero' was reveled to be Link, someone he had trained and helped. A parade was held for Link and many happenings around the castle confused Marik, Link had not achieved any great feat or anything, Link had been within the ranks of Marik's corp and he heard of no such feats. Marik quickly found out that there was some sort of lore of the land that a hero would come to save the people from impending danger. Marik disbelieved this because where he was from, Hero's were not chosen they were made, if one wished to be honored as a hero they became one, not simply recognized as one. Marik began to resent Link for this to an extend and as soon as that resentment set in Seith was able to get in touch with Marik.
Seith was the God of Fortune though long ago he had been sealed away below the Temple of Time in a prison that was build specifically to hold the power of a God within it. Perhaps due to Seith's innate ability for good fortune, he found a way to escape this prison. Seith had to split himself up into several shards of his soul and ultimately escape with his main portion into a vessel that would accept him. Marik in a moment of weakness, accepted Seith into him and fused with the God. Marik slowly slipped into the clutches for madness for some time as all the pain that Seith had endured in the torturous prison was instilled into his vessel as their bodies and minds fused together. Marik's physical appearance began to change so that he looked more like Seith, all the while Marik became very aloof and faked being sick the entire time. It wasn't until the revelation of the Hero that Marik came out of his chambers, attending the ceremony and revealed himself to be the God of Good Fortune, Seith. His revelation was mainly to the Queen whom he knew had been the incarnation of Hylia, Seith had been in love with her many centuries ago as he had been her mentor until Hylia betrayed all the other Gods.
Seith's plan was simple and didn't involve much of what actually ended up happening. Seith wished to battle against Link, not even necessarily in a battle for life or death but if the situation called for it, Seith was certainly ready to kill for what he wanted. Seith wished to free Hylia of her human body and return to his side and he noted that Link was the only thing in his way as well as the fact that the young Queen was in love with Link. Marik's resent fueled by Seith's anger and love for Hylia caused Seith to start a battle and to fuse the realms once more though Seith and Link never got to finish their battle as they were first interrupted by the other Gods who crossed over to the merged world and took their anger out on Hylia and her world for locking them out of it against the group decision. It hadn't been Seith's intentions to bring about chaos to such a level yet at the same time he didn't even have enough time to assess the situation and coerce his brothers and sisters to follow his will, as soon as it had all started everything seemed to come to a stop as well. The return of the Old Gods, something that literally had everyone frozen in their tracks. The three involved were punished, Link was sealed within the prison that Seith had once inhabited, Zelda was made to renounce the royal families claim to the crown of Hyrule and Seith, he was stripped out of Marik's body and Marik was teleported away, thought to have died from the God suddenly being ripped out of his body as it seemed as if that very action annihilated Marik, leaving nothing behind.
Marik was still very much alive however though he was a bit different than he had been before. During his time with Seith he had learned a lot about his own darkness, the dark power that lingered in the back of his mind that allowed him to do bad things or use bad powers even if it were for good. Marik found himself laying in the forest, a forest that seemed vaguely familiar but for the life of him he couldn't name it nor could he remember the right way back to where he needed to be. This was not the only thing that Marik could oddly not remember however, parts of Marik's memory seemed to have left him. Marik's mind was stripped of the memory of Seith and the things he had been told by Seith aside from a few key things that he would only recall later on when they were mentioned. Upon waking up he also found himself int he company of a Fairy, one that glowed with a bright red light that was outlined with black giving it a sort of sinister look despite it's playful and helpful nature. Marik learned that its name was Compa, a new companion for him to help him along his new path. At this point Marik finds himself in Hyrule once more as a nobody and not knowing much about the land either, he sets out on a journey to re-find his place in this world and to unlock the missing pieces of his memory.

APPEARANCE DESCRIPTION:
Marik's frame is neither thick nor thin though does have defined muscular tone to it, while one would not say it's a perfect frame, Marik is very much so in shape as he has spent his whole life as a soldier, fighting his way towards his goals. Marik is predominantly left handed though he is to a certain extend ambidextrous and coordinates with both hands rather well compared to most people. His face has neither a rough nor soft complexion to it as it's somewhere in between stern and friendly to the point where if one were to try and read his mood or what he might be thinking, unless one were a psychic, would have to listen to the implications within his voice or speech pattern often making him seem somewhat stoic. His face is framed by a strong jaw line and jet black hair which falls over his face primarily on the right side. His hair has a tint of navy blue within the jet black which can only be seen in the sunlight, his hair having a very spiky nature to it.
