It was originally comprised of several warring tribes, representing the Highland and Lowland respectively, before a marriage of a Lowland leader and a Highland leader united the two part, laying the foundation of the Dukedom. Its rather poor soil but excellent situation in the trade network makes the Duchy a prosperous trade center, while their warlike mentality make them famous as supplier of mercenaries. Boasting a strong military force, three regiments are especially well-known: The Crimson Order, comprising of mobile knights on nimble horseback feared for their reckless charges; The Ironhearts, a regiment of well-armored sentinels famed for its record of always able to hold their position; and The Free Company, state-sanctioned mercenaries which have proved again and again their exemplary service as swordsmen in foreign wars. The Duchy's armies were instrumental in the early days of Hyrule's expansion and consodilation, birthing legends and giving them widespread acclaim. The recent discovery of mines on their Highland part and the improved irrigation of their Lowland part has elevated the Duchy to a high degree of prosperity. [break][break] The Peerage Maedhra's tale begins with her parents. Her father Fenior was the late Duke of Bion. He was in love with her childhood friend Aerwyn, a beautiful lady of Bion most regarded nobility and also a distant cousin of the previous dukes. She loved him back, and there was no doubt in the populace's mind that they were fated to be together. However, when they were still too young to seal their marriage Maedhra's mother was chosen as one of the handmaiden of Merseda, the Queen of Hyrule, who had just given birth to her third child. Thus they were separated, although they kept close contact, and Maedhra's father often visited her beloved due to the excellent relationship between the Duchy and the Kingdom of Hyrule. [break][break] The Heritage Lady Aerwyn returned a few months after Queen Merseda's death and quickly got married to her childhood lover, Duke Fenior. While a joyous celebration celebrated across the land, the speed and apparent urgency of the wedding raised a few eyebrows and lent itself to a few gossips among the court. The whispers intensified when Duchess Aerwyn gave birth to a baby daughter late in the year, who, according to some, bore no resemblance to the Duke at all, but who was eerily similar to one of the Royal Heirs, Princess Zelda. The couple wasn't disturbed at all, however, and they spent the next years in loving company of each other and their only daughter, a symbol of unity and an image of mutual love that many young couple aspired to. In time, the vicious rumors died down. When Lady Aerwyn perished in a freak landslide when Maedhra was six, the duke never remarried. There is a rumor, however, that the Duke had fathered a son with a commoner. But this was so far unproven. [break][break] The Warrior From the beginning Lady Maedhra was noted to be an especially bright and rambunctious child, often getting into fights and was a natural in the art of warfare. While she dutifully learned and practiced the ladies' art of poetry, dance, and songs, it was with the weapons rather than needles which she excelled the most. In another region her talents might have been unappreciated and forced to wither, but the warrior culture of The Duchy of Bion suited her well. The Duchy's men are fierce and their women brave and independent. With the encouragement of her father, Maedhra thrived. As was customary of the Dukedom, when she was but fourteen Maedhra had to serve in the military to give her experience and insight of warfare so crucial to her people's way of life. She chose The Free Company, and spent some time waging wars on foreign soils, her status notwithstanding. She would gain many friends and lost some, but the ecperience clearly enriched both her talents and her compassion. It was during this time she gained the nickname of "The Red Demon", owing to her fearsome battle prowess and distinctive horned helmet. [break][break] The Stance The Dukes of Bion had sworn fealty to the Hyrule Throne, rather than the Hyrule Royal Family itself, although they were well aware that it was up to them who they deemed most fit to hold the Hyrule Throne and who was the usurper. Duke Fenior had chosen to be neutral during the last two wars, his significant forces neither helped nor hindered the Royal Family's struggles, although it should be noted that he secretly sent supplies of weapons and foods to the Royal Army in exile whenever possible. His stance, while problematic, was greatly appreciated by his people, since it allowed the Duchy to continue to prosper and to lend their mercenary services without jeopardizing their position. [break][break] The Loyalty Duke Fenior passed away under mysterious circumstances which was rumored to involve the Sheikah, although this could not be verified. Lady Maedhra, who had returned to her Duchy for some time, was crowned the Duchess of Bion, and immediately strengthened her position. Many were sceptical about the brash Duchess at first, knowing her hotheaded tendency and legendary recklessness. She soon proved herself able to implement her rulership experience, however, shrewdly balancing the interest of many parties while concentrating power in the hands of Eleven Councillors, a group of very capable ministers which handled the Duchy affairs. Winning support of the military and especially The Crimson Order and The Ironhearts by streamlining their provision requests and increasing their equipment's standards, Duchess Maedhra was ready to throw her support behind the Coalition Army. [break][break] The Army The Duchy of Bion's support could not come at a more opportune time. The Coalition Army was ready to lay a siege on the Rogue Order's Hyrule, and the news that the new Duchess of Bion was mobilizing her famous army in support of the Queen in exile greatly lifted the morale of the Coalition Army. The Duchess' army arrived on the 2nd day of siege. The sight of The Crimson Order's knights, their crimson capes gallantly swaying in the winds, and the majestic black-and-red armors of The Ironhearts standing immovable as the mountains were met with cheers and adulations of those aware of their exemplary reputation. With the Queen re-installed at the throne, the new Duchess was seemingly willing to repair the relationship of their respective states, having been marred by the instability of the Hyrulean Throne.

Siege of Hyrule : 5 th day

"So, lemme repeat it one more time," Duchess Maedhra spoke, re-arranging the many-colored pieces scattered on the hand drawn map of Hyrule Castle, Town, and surrounding Field spread on the large wooden table. Many heads around the table huddled closer to see her moving the pieces as she detailed her strategy, several candles around the table cast a looming shadow on their gaunt faces. The central command tent was especially crowded this night, it seemed "We've secured the Western Gate yesterday, but these rotten meat have invested heavily on the ditch. No way we're gonna pry open that gate. SO, that's out of question."

She moved several pieces from the western gate area to other parts. "Our Zora allies will make sure crossing the ditch will be hell. However, these wet biscuits might gonna attack us still. From here. Your Majesty, I'd like your famed archers especially ready to intercept them." she nodded towards the King of Labrynna, "Any threatening movements: shoot'em. We'll send reinforcements from other flanks as needed. I doubt it, tho. Been hearing about Labrynna's archers. Said to be greatest in the land," she grinned, not shy of heaping praises where needed.

"The Northern part is safe in the hands of our Goron and Rito friends. They have their own plans so I'm not gonna touch it. That leaves the Southern and Eastern part," she continued, her hands dancing as she arranged other pieces on the table. It was fascinating how this young lady had such a grasp on military tactics like she displayed. "I suggest Your Majesty and your Army of Holodrum and most of our Central Army to take the Southern Part. The plains there are suitable for your fine horsemen-" 'Though not as fine as our Crimson Knights' she added in her thoughts, smiling inwardly with pride. "Once again, this is as crucial as marmalade. We expect those rotten vegs to be drawn here. The main amy. The real deal." As she said so, she pushed a large block from the area inside "City Walls" out. "As we've known from yesterday's battle, these flea-bitten pies have numbers, but no real brains. Should they see our largest gathering and our siege weapons, they should be drawn here, like flies to bananas."

"Now, what I am suggesting here -and I'll be stressing this, Your Majesty- is risky. But especially important," she exhaled. "Instead of matching the enemy's width, make your lines thinner but twice as long. Sieges in the middle, behind the infantry line. Horsemen on the sides and ready to ride at a moments notice. As the battle starts, pull the center line slowly. But be careful not to break. This needs an excellent morale which, I am sure, the Holodrum Army is capable of?" Her questioning tone was tantalizing.

There were nods and definitive answers of agreement. Duchess Maedhra smirked.

"Excellent. Now, slowly the enemy will be eager to pursue our retreating line." She pulled the stacks while pushing another stacks on the map. "Once they go far enough -like this- while our wings are still intact...."

She grinned. "Bam. We crush them from three sides like a juicy lemon."

Apparently satisfied with herself. The Duchess now turned her hands towards the area around the "East Wall" mark. "Of course, your army is meant to hold their attention, Your Majesty. If we are able to crush them, so good. If not, we only have to hold our line. Meanwhile, I'll take my own army and some of The Royal Army to assault the Eastern Gate. The sun will be behind us, so I reckon we'll have easier time against their arrows. Once our Gerudo and our siege teams manage to breach the gate, I bet they'll have swarmed us." At this she pushed a piece and directly slammed it to another. "My Ironhearts shall lead the initial charge inward. Our most powerful charge, our cavalry, will be useless in this packed area. What we need is a breach head for us to organize our real charge. This is a task well-suited for The Ironhearts heavy armors."

"Once we have our footing inside," her fingers walked from the gate towards the center box, named "Hyrule Castle", "It is a straight way to the Hyrule Castle. I believe my Crimson Order's charge along with The Royal Knights should be able to open up their lines, once they are allowed to gain sufficient momentum. Meanwhile, since the enemy will no doubt be concentrating here, Labrynna's Army can move towards the East and pepper the defenders with arrows. That should help much." The young Duchess concluded, finishing the re-arrangement of the pieces on the table.

"That's the whole cup of tea" she ended, her eyes taking turn to gaze each person present one by one. "Anymore questions?"
