Rodius was a Hyrulean knight, Aelia a respected priestess and healer. Being their third and youngest child, Randio was coddled by his parents, not having to live up to the same expectations his elder siblings were held to. Though most members of the family have pursued military careers for ages, the Osins are new players on the stage of nobility, the first among them to be knighted being Randio’s grandfather Aias. They weren’t notable landholders. They just lived in houses in Hyrule Castle Town and Hateno Village. Though on the bottom rung of the nobility class, Randio nevertheless grew up with the idea that his family was more noteworthy than the commoners. Taking incredible pride in his heritage, he looked up to his relatives, nearly idolising them. He began to equate his family to the heroes of stories and legends that his mother would tell him before bedtime. He would then dream about being one of them. A knight, fighting evil-doers and protecting the innocent. And he expected those dreams to become reality one day. Especially as he saw his brother and sister grow into that same role. [break][break] He would soon enough find out that the Goddesses may well have had other plans for him. [break][break] As is customary, if a knight’s child wished to be a knight themselves, they would have to live and learn under the wing of a knight from outside the family. As soon as he reached age seven, his father -a man who was good with words- arranged for Randio to become a page to Livius Faris, one of Hyrule’s finest and most reputable knights. The boy, along with two others, would live at Sir Faris’ household, receive a basic education, learn courtly matters and be trained in combat. They would have to spend the next several years doing things like running messages, cleaning clothing and weapons and just generally serve his master. This didn’t go over well for Randio. He did not get along with Sir Livius, who he found to be way too strict. The man demanded the utmost discipline from his pages, while Randio had a tendency to be playful and joke around due to his loose upbringing. He was regularly disobedient, and only seemed interested and motivated when it came to the martial aspects of his education. Combat training was the only thing he enjoyed, and the only thing he excelled at. Being bigger and stronger than the other pages, he had an advantage, and his tendency to not hold back would often result in someone getting hurt. In time, he started bullying and getting into fights with the other children at the knight’s court. [break][break] After a year and a half of putting up with the red haired menace, Sir Livius sent the boy home. “You will never, ever be a knight.”, he had said. Randio would never forget that day, and how deep those words had cut him. He felt as if the world was ripped out from under his feet, and like his dreams had shattered all around him. Things didn’t get much better when he got back home. His family seemed to treat him rather coldly. Whenever his siblings would visit, they would completely ignore him. His mother would often scold him for the behaviour he had shown during his time at the Faris’ estate. His father grew distant, spending less and less time with his youngest son. As time went on, the boy started to retreat into himself, and would just stay inside of his chambers, the only thing bringing him any solace being books. He would read the stories that brought him so much joy when he was younger. He focused on his studies, making sure he showed the utmost discipline. He even managed to learn some basic magic from his mother. His behaviour didn’t completely improve, however. He would still get in fights with other children, who teased him about the reputation he had now gotten. As much as his parents tried to teach him to not be aggressive, he couldn’t help but react due to his hot temper. [break][break] His father would eventually look for another knight to take his youngest on as an apprentice. It seemed that word has spread of the young lad’s misbehaviour, however, and even Rodius’ silver tongue wasn’t enough to make anyone interested to give the boy another chance. Randio would have to accept that, perhaps, he would never become a knight like the rest of his family. Until, nearly a year after he had returned home, someone arrived at their doorstep who was willing. Dame Sorin Adoni, a young knight errant, would take the boy under her wing. [break][break] Soon enough, Randio would fall into the same behaviour as when he was a page to Livius Faris. He was not interested in anything that didn’t have to do with fighting and would half-ass in the task . However, he would learn that his time with Dame Sorin would be very different. The Adoni family name was once prestigious, but Sorin herself had very little to her name besides her horse and her equipment. She held no lands, and travelled around, earning her rupees doing odd jobs for people, and participating in the occasional tournament. She would provide her new apprentice with his basic needs for the first week of their time together, but would eventually ask him to provide for himself as much as possible. Or at least help her with necessary duties. While he initially refused, he would in time realise that his tasks were tied to his own survival. He didn’t live in a cozy house anymore, with servants making his food. He was in the wilderness, alone, with a strange woman being his only protection from said wilderness. He had nowhere else to go at this point. [break][break] And so they would spend many nights sleeping in stables, barns, caves and oftentimes in the open. Randio would argue a lot with his new master. Sorin, however, always remained calm. She seemed to be a lot more patient with him than anyone had ever been, and he at least appreciated that about her. She rewarded good behaviour with payment, and taught him how to handle money responsibly, telling him that if he saved up enough, he would be able to buy better equipment and his own horse. She didn’t need to tell him twice. Randio wasn’t fond of having to keep up with her and her horse on foot, while hauling all of his possessions along with him. [break][break] In time, Randio would come to trust and respect Dame Sorin. He didn’t always understand or agree with her methods and philosophy. He was always baffled whenever she refused monetary rewards, taking a night of food and shelter instead. And he disliked how much she would go out of her way to solve problems through non-violent means. Nevertheless, he trusted that she knew what she was doing. As long as they survived, and they were together, he knew things would be all right, and he wouldn’t complain too much. Even if he missed out on a lot of the major things going on in the world. [break][break] Randio would never forget the day he found out the royal family had been rejected by the Goddesses. He was baffled. Angry. Fearful. It wasn’t a concept he was able to process at the time. Sorin told him to focus on the here and now. The Royal Family didn’t need their help as much as the common folk did. Even, or especially when civil war broke out, Sorin would ensure they stayed as far away from the political as possible. During wartime, it was the people in the countryside, those who weren’t able to defend themselves and became targets for bandits and raiding soldiers, who needed their help the most. That was Sorin’s reasoning. Randio could not disagree with the sentiment. [break][break] Then everything changed as the Rogue Order took over and Eleazar Velyris took the throne, about three years ago. It didn’t sit well with Randio at all. He was now well into his teens, and passionate as ever. That passion and his anger over the situation got the best of him, and one day, as Sorin and he were visiting Hyrule Castle Town, he spoke out against the new regime at the wrong place, at the wrong time. As the guards attempted to arrest him, he resisted, and drew his sword. Sorin drew her own, and commanded him to leave. Randio expressed his desire to stay and fight. [break][break] “For Din’s sake, Randio. Why do you always have to make things difficult? Listen to what you’re told for once! LEAVE!” [break][break] The words cut deeper than he thought. He had never seen Sorin this angry at him. It reminded him of his old master, Sir Livius. Fear came over him, and he swiftly made his escape, not looking back one second. He miraculously made it to his horse and managed to flee the town. Before he knew it, he had crossed the border into Holodrum, his would-be pursuers nowhere to be seen. It wasn’t until he set up everything to go to sleep that night, that he fully realised what had happened. His mentor sacrificed herself to save him. She might be dead and it was all his fault. He bawled his eyes out for the rest of the night, unable to sleep for most of it. [break][break] Randio travelled to Holodrum’s capital. It’s nickname of Mercenary Town meant that he would probably be able to find some way to provide for himself there. To his surprise, he would find a familiar face among the mercenaries in town: his brother, Arelis. Arelis was, much against Randio’s expectations, happy to see his younger brother, and asked him to come with him to the place he now stayed at. He told him that he and their parents had secured a house within the city after they fled Hyrule during the Rogue Order’s takeover. Their sister, Ilsilia, was still in Hyrule, but last they heard she was safe. Randio couldn’t believe what he heard. His family, the people he had admired all his life. Knights, who had sworn an oath to protect their royals and country, had fled that same country and got a comfortable place to live, while people back home suffered. They had left their honour behind to become sellswords, while Sorin, a woman he now realised he should have respected way more, had made the ultimate sacrifice for him. Randio walked away angrily, calling his brother dishonourable, telling him he wouldn’t see his family and find his own place in the city. [break][break] Randio would spend the next few years doing odd jobs and taking up mercenary work, despite his relatively young age. His anger towards his family would cool down with time. Randio would eventually decide to see his family again. He would even spar and occasionally take on mercenary jobs with them. It would be during this time that he’d learn from his mother to properly use magic. But he refused to live under the same roof as them. He felt that it would be a disservice to the woman who taught him to provide for himself. He would make sure he made enough rupees to pay for his stay at an inn. [break][break] His father told him they were biding their time. That, behind the scenes, plans were being made to one day take back Hyrule for the royal family. And that day would soon be upon them, so Randio learned, when his sister showed up at his parents’ doorstep, informing them that they’ve been summoned to take part in the invasion. [break][break] Randio was more than eager to help get rid of the dark powers that now ruled his home country. Above all, he hoped that Sorin had stayed alive all those years. He felt the chances were slim. All he could do was hope. [break][break] Because otherwise, he felt he could never make up for what she’s done for him. [break][break]

Made of steel, it’s about 3 feet long. The blade is two inches wide. The crossguard is about four inches wide, and curves slightly upward. The grip is covered in leather straps for better grip. The pommel, resembling a balled fist, is about as wide as the blade, and about as long as it is wide. [break][break] The shield is likewise simple in design. It is round, and about 3 feet in diameter. The front has been painted crimson and white, each colour taking up one half of the shield, separated vertically from the middle. The shield has already seen its fair share of use, and has been repaired a couple of times. It is made of wood, with linen on top. [break][break] Ward / Shield of the Goddess: A magical ability taught to him by his mother during their time in Holodrum. It creates a barrier around the user and the objects they are carrying, taking the shape of a faint, white aura. It protects the user from weaker, magical attacks. Randio can only use this for a limited time, and he has not yet mastered how to efficiently use this spell. The power lasts for one post, and cannot be used for three more posts. [break][break] RACIAL ABILITY: Because Hylians are naturally magical, they have one extra magic slot. [break][break] OTHER: He carries a leather backpack for all his miscellaneous stuff.
