She spent the first several years of her life there, learning the privileged ideologies of the proud avian race, and absorbing their prejudices. Her father, a copywriter, and her mother, a florist, decided to move to Hyrule when she was still a child, partially to escape the cycle of hatred, but also due to temperate climates being more welcoming to her mother’s career. [break][break] The family settled in Hateno Village approximately twenty years ago now, allowing Remi to grow up among a mixture of Hylians, Humans, and Goron who made the city their home. Being along an important trade route, she was also able to intermingle with Gerudo and Zora. It was a healthy experience and one that has caused her to be much more open-minded than a lot of other Rito, whose isolation has created more of an echo chamber than a communal utopia. [break][break] Her household was a happy one, where she was able to listen to stories told by her father in the evenings, and work with her mother in the florist shop during the day. She learned to appreciate both the existing and potential beauty in things around her, and developed a strong inner sense of narrative to see the threads that tied all races together in story and song. [break][break] When she was old enough, Remi took out an apprenticeship with a local enchanting shop, learning the trade in return for hard and consistent work. She enjoyed her place there; enchanting items was the perfect marriage of the lessons she had learned from her parents. She was taking part in a narrative the customer wished to be told, and contributing to a sense of comfort and beauty within which they could thrive. She took pride in getting to know the customers, and to grow relationships with them. [break][break] Her master also took notice of how well she fit into the dynamic of his shop. Within three years, Remi was promoted to Journeyman and began earning a salary. While it was a modest income, it was something she could take back to her family, finally contributing to their well-being. Both her days and nights were full of love and warmth, whether spending it with the people whose company she enjoyed at work, or with her parents in the home they now all paid for. [break][break] The rise of Eleazar was a soft shattering of that comfortable world. Though business was able to continue mostly as usual, the change in social hierarchy caused ripples of unease even so far away from Castle Town. There was a sense of stress that simply was not present before. Though they had relatively little nobility nearby (outside of Bion, which itself did not border them directly, Remi couldn’t name any non-royal nobles), and therefore very little to fear from the wicked usurper, his soldiers did cause troubles to rise within the city. Their proximity to Death Mountain and positive relationships with its leadership seemed to keep them as safe as could be expected however, and they were able to ride out the occupation easily. [break][break] Once the usurper was driven from the castle and Queen Zelda returned to her rightful place on the throne, Remi noticed the pallor lift from the faces around her. For the most part, things seemed to return to normal, though time would be the final judge of that. [break] |

Though these spells are often useless outside the context of enchanting, she is capable of creating competent, if humble, pieces for customers. Due to the needs of her clientèle, her specialities have become glamours for appearance and “halestones”, something unique to her master’s shop which claims to increase the vigour and resilience of its wearer. She is capable, mostly in theory, of infusing weaponry with basic enchantments to increase their hardiness and retain an edge for longer, as well as infusing armour with the ability to resist incoming damage at slightly higher levels than it otherwise should, but she gets very little experience in that area. [break][break] RACIAL ABILITY: [break] + Flight: The rito possess the ability to fly due to their feathery wings. [break] + Heat Resistance: Perhaps because of their previous home to volcanos in the past, the rito find it easy to live in hot climates. [break][break] OTHER: Though she spent the first seven years of her life among the Rito, Remi has had very little interaction with them since. The Rito of Hyrule especially seem to be isolated and angry, and when they needed something from the Hylians or Gorons, they flew directly to Castle Town or Goron Village, and then returned to their floating island. She is curious of them, and wishes she could know more, but is afraid that at this point she’s simply too integrated into a multi-cultural society to ever get the opportunity. |
