Like all the members of her race, she learned to be at peace with and reverential of the nature that surrounded her. Like the rest, she could shift into an animal form, for her the silver fox, and spend her days playing among the forest creatures. [break][break] Inherited from her lineage was a unique duty, that of protecting a patch of the forest and keeping it healed. Every century or so, one member of the family would develop an aptitude for magic that could assist the land, as well as the plants that covered it and the animals that strode upon it, to become healthy and thrive. They would be able to assist those who had passed in returning to the earth to nurture future growth, heal minor sickness from those siblings of sap and blood, and encourage growth in the young. [break][break] Sif was taught by her uncle to utilise this power, trained for decades among the land they’d been charged to protect, and was eventually given the responsibility of being the next lead caretaker. Minish lived a long time, and she would likely see several other nature-oriented family members come and go, but eventually another would come who had the proper character and motivation to live in the woods. Since taking over, she has lived almost exclusively in the form of a fox, spending her time in an abandoned den near a river, and only venturing back into her home village once a week for supplies and to report how the forest was doing. [break][break] Recently, she came across a blight that began to appear on a mother oak tree at the edge of the forest. This was concerning, and her magic could not help to properly take away the sickness. Even combined, the power of both she and her uncle, as well as the other druidic members of their family they could gather, could not stop the blight. Knowing that it would certainly destroy all they had worked for, Sif understood it was time to venture out into world and find a proper cure for her home. |
