TITLE/NICKNAME: Matriarch of the Sky Rito AGE: 20 RACE: Rito GENDER: Female SEXUALITY: Omnisexual KINGDOM: Hyrule TRIFORCE: Power THEME:Tiaris' Theme
PERSONALITY
Living a life where one is groomed to a certain role tends to benefit those people in the long run, and Tiaris is no exception to this rule. From her posture, to her actions, to her manner of speech, she is every part the leader of a proud people. Her speech is concise and to the point, often given by a stare down her nose at others. She is very prideful of who she is and confident in herself, rarely showing emotion when they don't benefit her situation. All decisions put before her are weighed based on their benefit of the Rito, even before her well being itself. She holds a skeptical nature to other races before they prove to be true allies to the Rito, wary of betrayal and back-stabbing. Her confidence is almost contagious, in situations of combat, negotiation, and other personal acts. As such, she can come off as condescending and cold.
To her people and those she trusts, she warms up, though her serious demeanor rarely drops (often around lovers and family). She helps those in need, mediates where she is needed, and ensures her people, and all her people, live the best lives they can in the sky. She enforces the philosophy that those in need are to be helped by the community, and as such, very few go hungry or live unsheltered.
In combat, never has a more merciless Rito been seen. Her calm demeanor changes when her life is threatened, not to one of desperation, but one of exhilaration. She takes great joy in proving her combat prowess, especially when she has an enemy to use as an example. Though best trained with her sword, she also spent years mastering the art of the bow, as most Rito did growing up. Because of her magic, she is one of the best shots among her people.
LIKES:
Tea: Drinking tea while watching out over Hyrule is calming to her
Flying: Nothing feels more free than using her magic to fly through the sky with those of her people granted the gift
Diplomacy: Typical leaders abhor this, but Tiaris thrives in discussions with other leaders. Often, words are a better weapon than blade or arrow.
DISLIKES:
Tyrants: He who can't earn the respect of his people is not one fit to rule.
Impaired Vision: As a Rito, one of her sharpest senses is her sight, and having it obstructed mkes her vulnerable. She's not a fan.
Rival Tribes: Due to past trauma, Tiaris is wary of other Rito tribes, and watches them carefully unless they prove friendly.
MOTIVATIONS:
Prosperity: Make Rito great again
Extending the reach of the Rito: By extending the influence of her people, Tiaris hopes that her tribe of people can someday encompass an entire empire.
Balance in Hyrule: Whether she helps one side or the other, her end goal will be restoring balance to the land they reside in, with or without the Triforce.
FEARS:
Imprisonment: The thought of being captured brings back the traumatic memories of her childhood trauma
Extinction: With the chaos in the world now, her tribe dying off is a very real possibility, and as such she fears for her people's well-being
The ocean: Rito weren't made to deal with that hellscape of water.
HISTORY
"Living in privilege meant nothing to me. All that mattered was my people."
As all matriarchs of the Sky Zora, Tiaris was born into her role, raised and molded to be the perfect leader for her people. She was a sharp child, quick to read and write, being taught in private. She still grew alongside the other Rito children, but they treated her with a respect fit for a leader, and her natural charisma showed. She began attending council meetings young, learning the politics of the Rito as she sat quietly. At the time of her 13th birthday, she was allowed to speak on the council herself, contributing as an integral member of her society.
"We weren't without our enemies, I am a prime example of this. There was an attack, and I was caught. I suffered greatly from it."
Attacks by rival clans were common in the City in the Sky, and one raid in particular left a lasting impact on Tiaris and her people. In the dead of night, they were attacked by a large strike squad of rival Rito soldiers, while deliberations were going on, and the council was held hostage. Several were killed for resisting, and the leader of the rival clan stated his desire to have the City in the Sky. Taking Tiaris, he gave her parents 5 days to hand it over in exchange for her life.
She was caught trying to escape day 1. The rival leader, in a haze of bloodlust and sadistic glory, decided she was a disgrace of a Rito, and didn't deserve the title of such a prestigious race. Her screams echoed through the night as they removd her wings with two clean cuts, and with a promise to do the same from her family, she was kicked from the clouds.
"But my suffering was nothing compared to what I gave back to them."
She knew it was not her time to die, but she saw no solutions. Tiaris was hardly religious, but she prayed to Din, prayed for the power to save her from this situation as she plummeted further to the ground.
And suddenly, power blossomed in her, a power that felt free and rebellious. It had to be Din answering her call. Fire burst around her, and she felt herself change. What was once a typical looking Rito for her time was now one akin to what was described in the ancestral stories, feathers varying from a deep blue to snowy white. And she could fly. Her wings caught the current of the wind, and suddenly she felt herself guiding it, coaxing it to do what she wanted. It took a few moments to get used to, but then she tucked in, letting herself go into a free fall, and blew a vortex upward, the wind obeying her command.
The rebel leader was still looking over the edge with a grin when she burst through the cloud cover, the gale she had rode up on blowing him back. Several of his guard went flying back, and she wasted no time landing, grabbing one of their swords, and riding another gale back upwards. Guards fired on her, but with her flying skill and the wind obeying her, there was nothing they could do. Their arrows glanced harmlessly, and she dove down, leaving gashes in their chests with her stolen blade. The leader began to retreat to his home, but she rocketed after him, stopping between him and his family. He begged for mercy in front of his wife and children.
"I gave no quarter. He would have done the same to me."
With that, the rivals surrendered, and her ancestral form faded. The pain came rushing back as her own people came to rescue her, and she was taken back to her village. The healers could do nothing to save her flight, but they brought her from the brink of death, due to blood loss and shock, by a complex surgery, leaving small nubs of bone on her back of what used to be her pride as a Rito. It took her weeks to recover physically, and some claim she never healed psychologically.
However, her magic was something gained from it, as well as something that brought awe to her people. She was seen as a link to her ancestors, and no one doubted that she was destined for her role as matriarch.
And, per tradition of the Rito, she took the role on her 18th birthday, her mother stepping down in a grand ceremony. To this day, she rules them, with an iron fist aimed at her enemies, and an open palm open to her people.
APPEARANCE
Tiaris is a Rito of average height, standing at about 5 feet 7 inches tall. Because of her Rito nature, her bone structure is less dense and more streamlined than that of a Hylian, and causes her to have much more angular features. She is lithe, large-busted, and has long black hair. Her eyes are light blue, and are often focused on one thing or another. She wears a white dress, stylized with gold accents along her ribs, shoulderpieces, and a blue ribbon tied around her neck. She wears shorts underneath it, and knee-height white boots. Where Rito typically have a large wingspan, she has none, but if one were to feel back, they would feel the nubs where hers once were.
In hr ancestral form, she takes the appearence of a Rito with royal blue feathers that contrast out to a pearly white.
MAGIC
Ancestral Calling: Unlocked in Tiaris' most dire moment, this power allows her to call upon the power of her ancestors, letting her shift her form to that of one of her ancestors. This compensates for her inability to fly on her own, granting her the flight ability of her people in their former glory. In addition to this, she gains access to control over how the winds blow, assisting her in her flight even more.
WEAPONS
Sword: A single edged blade kept in a sheath, sharpened to a razor-like finish. Strong in the spine, and curved to deflect blows, it was a gift given to Tiaris upon her elevation to leader of the Rito.
Swallow Bow: The typical bow of a Rito warrior, designed to be used in aerial combat. Comes with 10 arrows, held in a specialized quiver so they don't fall out in flight.
