Arleif Sturlon
Courage
Gerudo Warrior
TITLE/NICKNAME: "Arnlie" (by close friends); "Commander Sturlon"
RACE: Gerudo
AGE: 23
GENDER: Female
SEXUALITY: Bisexual
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION:
Arnleif is defined by her unwavering support to the Gerudo tribe. Throughout her years, Arnleif was always told one thing: fight for your people and abscond all else. Her mother had named her Arnleif with the belief that she would become the ‘Eagle Talons’ of the tribe. Some children may have seen such early, high expectations as immense pressure, but the warrior chose to rise to them. Arnlie’s unabashed determination makes her come off as headstrong and narcissistic and to a certain extent those claims are accurate. Even in the face of near certain failure Arnleif rises to the occasion, even if death would be imminent.
The vast majority of Gerudo tribeswomen are thieves, that is the simple truth of it. However, Arnleif wanted more for herself and her people. Over the years the once sparse Desert of Doubt was beginning to have more and more outsiders visiting, some even wishing to stay amongst the Gerudos. These people are extremely untrustworthy in Arnleif’s eyes and are stepping stones towards the erasure of Gerudo culture and perhaps the race itself. A part of this essential racism came from Arnlie’s mother. Arneif is born from a Gerudo mother and a Hylian father. This in of itself isn’t uncommon in the tribe (how would new members be born after all?) however instead of integrating himself into the tribe, her father tried to convince Arnleif’s mother that Hyrule would be a far better environment for their child. He had bluntly referred to the tribe as bands of savages, criminals, and uncultured. The man would have preferred Arnlie’s mother be a housewife instead of a warrior. Gender roles are incredibly insulting in Gerudo culture and thus the man was driven out. Perhaps his intentions were just, but all Arnleif hears of him is negative and gave rise to her particular hatred of outsiders.
Among those within the tribe, however, Arnleif is an ally worth having. Her courage makes her a formidable foe to those who would wish to bring the tribe harm. Besides the respectable traits, Arnleif has a lesser seen clumsy, almost child-like persona that she keeps under lock and key. Arnlie is a glutton (a bad thing to be in a desert), easily jealous, and hates spiders. She really hates spiders.
LIKES:
Cows: They are cute, don't get her wrong, but the real reason Arnleif invested in a massive ranch of cows is because she finds their milk and meat divine. Creamed beef is Arnlie's favorite dish. It's a shame that without trade it is near impossible to receive key ingredients for the dish such as flour.
Lord Phoenix: Arnlie's pet cucco and the protector of her home. Though most cucco are docile until provoked, this bad tempered bird will instantly begin harassing anyone it runs into unless Arnleif is there to calm the poultry down. It has a Gerudo emblem painted on its wings and wears a red beaded band on one of its legs. This is to help tribeswomen to identify the bird versus a common cucco and to stay away.
Sparring: Call her cliche, but Arnlie would rather spend an afternoon in a training center with young Gerudo than do anything else. Some of the tribes-people think this isn't as productive as if she became a thief and went to claim resources the tribe needs, but this is how Arnleif believes the Gerudo can eventually keep outsiders away for good.
DISLIKES:
Foreigners: Arnlie's racism is deep-seeded and has been a part of her since the day she was born. Most Gerudo's are naturally wary of outsiders, but Arnlie would rather see invaders to the tribe dead first and questioned later. She knows her views are harmful to trade, something the tribe would need if they were to separate themselves from their thieving roots, but merchants are the least trustworthy outsiders of them all.
Archery: Gerudo are to be masters of every craft, but no matter how much Arnleif tries she can never manage to string a bow. Whether the arrows break in her harsh grip, the warrior's fingers bleed from the pressure of string, or she cannot make the arrow fly more than a few feet it drives Arnlie crazy. She has deep respect for those who can succeed in the skill.
The Cold: Probably for the best that Arnleif lives in the desert since she has zero tolerance for icy temperatures. The nights in the Gerudo Valley can become fairly frosty and she hates it. The cold bothers her animals, can kill crops, and makes her nose run. It is the worst.
MOTIVATIONS:
Get out and stay out: Arnleif wants the Gerudo tribe to return to its origins when it comes to national pride. Besides breeding, the tribe should not have to interact with the outside world. Any one in the tribe at present that isn't the Gerudo race should be forced to leave and those who would attempt to enter the village are to be driven out.
Ascended: If it was up to Arnlief she would be the next in line to lead the tribe. It would be in a time when a male is born into the Gerudo. That doesn't stop her though, she has been training her whole life to be a strong ruler that does not need to demand respect from others.
A girl can have a hobby: The major problem with the Gerudo tribe is the lack of agriculture. If it is impossible for necessary crops such as wheat or corn to grow Arnlie will work her darnest to make a suitable environment for animals such as cows and cucco to thrive so that the Gerudo do not have to rely on merchants for food,
FEARS:
Spiders: If there is anything Arnleif hates more than foreigners it would be spiders. Once when Arnlie was a small child a skulltula came into her mother's fort and ever since Arnleif will border on fainting when she encounters any type of an arachnid.
Romance: A warrior has no need for things like love in the passion sense. Beyond children and release there is no reason to have relationships. This belief subconsciously led to her having an underlying fear of falling in love. She views companionship not as strength but as weakness and manipulation.
Water: Though not a full on phobia like her fear of spiders Arnleif has a particular abhorrence of water. There is not many bodies of water in the Desert of Doubt, but when Arnlie runs into one on a mission she stays far away from it. A lack of experience in the environment has mad her somewhat wary of being around lakes and the like. She will not get on a boat any time soon.
HISTORY:
Arnleif was born in the Gerudo Village only a few years before the birth of a rare, male Gerudo. Arnlie’s mother had an affair with a human merchant which led to her birth. Most Gerudo women lie with a man and then return to the tribe thereafter however Arnlie’s father was living in the village while he was trading. He was there long enough that Arnleif’s parents fell in love with one another. Sadly, her father made her mother choose between her village and him. Naturally, the village came first and her father left in a fit of rage.
Brokenhearted, Arnlie’s mother raised her to resent things such as love and men. In the end, they were good for only one thing and the new prince would be no different. Even if Arnleif and the male Gerudo were to never interact Arnlie still swore undying rivalry to him. The warrior loved her tribe, but this king was making once respectable women become weak minded and fool-hearty. There was no such thing as birthright or fate. Those who got the best were the ones who worked for it so that was what Arnlie would do. To make the Gerudo clan a mighty empire she would train and fight until she stopped breathing. No one would stand in her way.
Arnlie was named Eagle Inheritor for she was born to the sound of an eagle’s cry. Eagles are rare in desert regions, hawks are not uncommon, but never eagles. Arnleif’s mother wanted her to capture life in her talons like an eagle does to its prey. And capture she would, in time.
Over the years as the kingdom began to revolutionize and meet the standards of the outside world Arnleif watched as the land she had once knew was a mirror to the ancestors into a country that was like the kingdom that housed her father and others who saw her kind as nothing but a joke. The new order was one that dismissed that of the culture that had not changed for centuries. All because of one boy who thought his way was the better way.
While some took to humble approaches after a lifetime of thievery, Arnleif picked up the sword. Rarely would the Gerudo chose to arm themselves with a blade and armor but she was no fool. If Arnleif was to have any hope of protecting her people from the inevitable invasion of the outside world they needed to know how to fight as the outsiders did: only better. Thus, the first Gerudo knight trained for years on sword-fighting and new age combat. She learned all she did from books never daring to leave the desert to submit herself to a non-Gerudo master.
It took time, but now Arnleif sees herself as skilled enough to take on anyone who would seek to harm her people. She is so proud of how she has done that she now takes time to train young Gerudo girls to fight with swords and mason their own blades. Few of the Gerudo women like the influence she has on their daughter, especially her less than positive view of the king, but they would never dare say she isn’t anything but a fighter worthy of respect. If things were different she would no doubt be chosen as the leader of the tribe.
APPEARANCE
HEIGHT: 5 feet 7 inches
WEIGHT: 145 lbs
APPEARANCE DESCRIPTION: Arnleif is toned, muscular and extremely tanned. To anyone outside of the Gerudo tribe she would look like a beautiful desert warrior, however she is fairly standard as the race itself goes. Most Gerudo women are more focused on being lithe, small, and fast in order to be effective thieves, but Arnleif takes pride in her build and the number of times it has contributed to keeping the village safe.
Arnleif’s defining features are her striking red hair and deep blue eyes. Gerudo usually have yellow eyes, but due to her human father Arnlie was born with cerulean eyes. As a child she was self-conscious of her eye color and fear she would be insulted for it but in reality few care about it and especially not as much as she herself does.
Arnlie's clothes are fairly standard Gerudo gear: a crop top and baggy pants. A notable accessory that Arnleif is never seen without is a matching pair of lapis earrings and blue beaded hair-tie she uses to keep her hair in a ponytail almost exclusively.
