OTM NOMINATIONS

PLEASE READ THE INFO THOROUGHLY

RULES AND INFORMATION

Hello everyone! Welcome to ZRP's first OF THE MONTHS!! \o/ Please read all the information below before replying.

To answer the question --
'What are of the months?' : Of the months, or most commonly known as OTM's are spotlighted categories in which the member base will vote for to be rewarded. These categories are 'Character', 'Thread', 'Member' and 'Couple'. Those that win out of these categories, will be highlighted in the above boxes ( the ones right under the banner ) for a whole month until the next OTM's!

'What do we get if we win?' : Well on ZRP, staff has agreed on one reward for all of these. TRIFORCE SHARDS! Yes the magical item that you normally only receive from dungeons and/or missions. You can also receive them by becoming and OTM. Runner up's get a handful of Rupees! NOTE: For categories with more than one winner ( i.e thread and couple ) all of the participants in the thread and both couple characters get the reward. NOTE #2: For MEMBER of the month, they can dictate which character receives the award.

'How do we become an OTM?' : Your fellow member base must vote for you! First off, staff will set up a thread in which members are able to nominate someone(or some peeps) for each of the categories. Then after some time, staff will throw up a poll for each of the categories that members will vote on. If it happens to end up a tie, staff will choose a winner.

RULES

You can only receive 1 Triforce per character : So if a single character wins more than one OTM, they can only receive 1 shard. They can however get the runner up rupees ontop of the shard for coming in second place.
All nominations MUST have a valid reason: On the nomination field, there will be a text area for 'REASON' under each category, this must be filled out with a justifiable reason as to why they are being nominated.
Yes you can vote for yourself: But like stated before, if there is no valid reason for nominating yourself, then it will be ignored by staff.
All nominations must be within the time period: Please do not suggest a thread that has not even been replied in during the specified month, or a character that is not even finished.

Sorry about how long this has taken, staff has been a bit thinned out for the past couple of days. You are allowed 8 extra points to place in any of your traits! Since your character is approved, you can talk to Navi a bit more on plot ideas if you want! Lemme know when you put those points in and i'll update your mini profile.

AND I'M HERE TO GIVE YOU AN ANSWER!

I FIGURED THIS DESERVED AN OFFICAL TEMPLATE

HEY! Glad we could clear up that mess. Now about this lengthy and well thought out suggestion; I can really only give you detailed answers on each of the points you made and hopefully I can give you some insight! Feel free to reply afterwards with any comments, concerns, more questions, etc. I will not be irritated at you for coming at me with an opinion haha so don't think that. I also need to say this first. Anything that I type in here, I do not do it with a condescending, sarcastic or asshole-like demeanor so please don't think that or this will go south and fast. On another note: alot of what I have said in response; I have taken your lack of RP experience into consideration. So let's begin --

YOU: OPTIONAL RPG SKIN
- From what I gathered, the actual use of having one is to satiate your nerdy needs, and an aesthetic overhaul to represent an rpg form of Roleplaying.

ME: ANSWER IS NO
- Now let me tell you why. The most simplest answers I can give you;

1.) This is a Plot-based roleplay forum and not the actual games.

2.)The whole 8-bit old school look has been done on other sites and I wanted to do something unique. The only thing that I did not create from scratch on the current skin is the 'Currently Online' footer and the Thread List. [ the page where the threads of a forum area all lined up]

3.) Kinda sounds like ALOT of work and thought to appease a handful of people over the majority. Now like let's say everyone that wanted to rp here and everyone that currently rp's here, if they all came to me and said "We want this" then yea I would do it. The site has been in existence for almost a year, and this is a reincarnation of a previous site [That's where the elaborate plot was written and rp'd out ], and they prefer it to be a story forum that is relative to the games yes but relative to the game's STORY not MECHANICS.

YOU: CHARACTER/MONSTER STATS
- You want an elaborate and detailed system put in [that kinda goes hand in hand with your skin idea] with point/stat based characteristics for both characters and monsters. This would allow you to more easily gauge an enemy's toughness compared to your own.

ME: ANSWER IS TRIPLE NO
- Now let me tell you why. But first I start with a small story;

ONCE UPON A TIME I OWNED A SITE Well actually I have owned a few, but my most recent site that I have owned, was my most successful one. It was both my greatest triumph and my greatest failure. Have you ever watched, read or even heard of Dan Machi? [Aka 'Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon?]. It's an anime, and If you like all of this Zelda and rpg stuff I suggest giving it a look if you haven't already.

So I suppose you can guess, but my site was loosely yet still firmly based around Dan Machi. In case you don't know -- Dan Machi is a story based in a somewhat Medieval setting with fantasy races, monsters, dungeons, etc; and in this show are 'Stats' like in old school Fire Emblem games, DnD, etc. Like they actually had stats, in a big tattoo across their back. So I recreated that to a site. I made great graphics, a HANDMADE MAP! quite similar to the one this site had but even more detailed and filled to the brim with places. I built Lore ontop of what was given in the series and I made a DOABLE and in-depth RPG like system with stats, numbers, etc but left out the rng of dice rolls and such.

The goal of this site was simple 'MAKE BAD ASS STORIES, BE THE HERO, AND BE THE STRONGEST!' That sounds fun as hell right? Well it was... for a while. But I have a certain RP style. I write -- and quite well if I should say so myself. It's a strong suit of mine. So while I was making this crazy and mind warping plots that made some of my members squeal with excitement -- there were others that were more concerned about being dominant, the leader of the pack, the top of topiest dudes. Their names were John and Zeek. [Navi can tell you bout em more later]. Anyways, these two were primarily combat styled RP'ers. They enjoyed number based systems stacked on top of metagaming bullshit.

I highly respected these two people, as did Navi, cause were were all close friends. And the two of them combined their wonder twin powers to literally destroy everything I worked so hard to create on that site. I was more occupied with getting out plots and going on adventures with players while leveling at the same time. They wanted more power and faster. Well we butted heads, and after nearly a year of reworking the system, bringing in new staff, new members, new skins, new priorities.... It just didn't work.

The quick moral of this story. You CAN'T combine stat based rping, and plot based storytelling. It doesn't work. This site actually had character stats for a hot minute till I convinced Navi to toss that out the window. This site will forever focus on pure storytelling versus exp, health, and numerical power-crawling.

THERE IS SOMETHING I WANT TO ADDRESS: A big reason you wanted stats and like, is as I said before. -- To gauge your enemy better. I TOTALLY understand this. I do. But think about it this way. Currently on earth, in real life, everyone is human. Everyone is squishy and if they get stabbed or shot, they will probably die. Everyone in the Zelda universe is like that as well. Even the Hero Link DIED in the most recent plot you know. When it comes to monsters.... well.
The dungeon system [which Navi stole from my old Dan Machi site ] is built the way it is, to give members the most amount of freedom in writing as they can. If people go in a dungeon and come out 100% unscathed, that is godmodding and they won't get credit. Simple. Be imaginative about your monsters and how you defeat them. Don't make staff go into the bestiary and give every detailed weakness and strength. GAH! Where is the fun in that. I don't like challenges where the trick is handed to me for free.

YOU: DEDICATED RULE PAGE
- Navigation of a forum based RP is new to you.

ME: DUDE... DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY RULE/GUIDE THREADS THERE ARE!?
- Now let me tell you why.

QUITE SIMPLY.... EFFORT Not Effort of the staff, but effort of the members. When I go onto a site, the first thing I look for is their rules. I look to see how many rule threads there are, and the length of each one. If it looks like a chore to read, I leave. Everything is broken up so it does not overwhelm members. Plus it's a terrible nuisance to scroll down or click a hot link to a specific thread in a board to find one snippet of a rule, where as I can go to the rule forum and find the thread I need exactly.

NOTE: Have you clicked the buttons in the banner? There is a nifty one that has MANY links to other useful links. Such as the Guide Forum. Plus if you hover over the forum images, it tells you what is in each Board.

I do however understand you are new to forum roleplaying in general. But most people in the RP world are not new and they know that rules are in their own forum. It's been a custom in the RP world for like nigh a decade. Also I made this new skin to be easier to navigate by supplying sub-boards directly on the main page.

YOU: FAQ

QUITE SIMPLY.... EFFORT
Now I'm complaining about effort from staff. Usually if someone needs help they can immediatly get ahold of staff or another member for help via the chat. That's why we use it ;-;. I plan on making guides about coding, but things such as character creation can be best asked in the chat. Or via pm through Proboards. Keep in mind that the current skin and app templates are made to be editable in the 'Preview Tab' without breaking. Unless they REALLY mess something up. We have yet to have anyone require a Bare Bones skeleton template however. When it happens, I'm sure we can make a swift accommodation. Yes it's just simply putting a bandaid on a wound instead of getting stitches... but it's just a mere paper cut. It'll be fine ^^

YOU: RP ZONE WITH NO APP
- You are feeling overwhelmed in the app process.

ME: I'M ACTUALLY A BIT CONCERNED
- Now let me tell you why.
TAKE A LOOK AT THIS

ONE OF THE MOST COMPLEX APPLICATION PROCESSES FOR STORY BASED RP-ING I'VE EVER FILLED OUT

It may look fairly straight forward, but the staff give reward points based on the outcome of the app and they are not afraid to tear them apart! To be honest... we actually have one of the most Lax app process's out there. You don't have to write a background for your character, you only have to list your likes, dislikes, motivations and fears... SHOOT You don't even really have to describe them. It's just 300 words for personality...and appearance can be literally shit out... DID YOU KNOW THAT LINK'S APPEARANCE DESCRIPTION IS A RIP OFF FROM AN OLD SPICE COMMERCIAL?! You may think we have people jumping through hoops but we really don't. We just give people OPTIONS. They have the option to take a canon or an important role -- which is where we require effort from new members. Only because we don't like people making canons and dropping them like flies. We deal with that enough already; So it could only get worse!

On another note: The whole RP zone where you can develop idea with people.... I actually thought about putting in a IC-RP text channel in the discord for something like this. Small paragraph rping is great for introducing people to personalities of characters they may have in mind. I've used this method and so has Navi [with her private rp's with Link ]

HOWEVER: We can not remove the app process of simplify it anymore. We are an intermediate rp site, and while we do expect newbies to show up, our app process is 100% doable. You survived! and You asked little questions so it can't be that hard.
Unfortunately if we removed the quality requirements of the app we have currently, we will see a parade of characters that are nothing but Gary and Mary Sue's. I dunno bout you, but diversity in characters is much more fun.

As for a Character Guide... if another person BESIDES STAFF can say that this will be useful I will put up an in depth, detailed process, on character creation... though it wouldn't be necessary if people read guides and rules and followed the links in them...

So that's pretty much it.

HARMONY Personally Kura has not made any friends; her only close relationships being with her retainer Garrett, and her promised King Perseus. Other than that, she has not many people she can confide in and tends to be emotionally volatile because of so. A friend could be ideal to Kura as she is a loyal individual and extremely caring to those she holds close. Be that being supportive of their goals, or just a shoulder to cry on.

HOSTILITY A young beautiful princess wouldn't have very many enemies, and that ideal carries over to Kura as well. She has not had the chance to make any enemies, but the thought is always there. Currently she despises the Witch Nynaeve, as she feels a dark aura around the woman and does not trust her. Which may be an instinctual feeling.

PARAMOUR As a princess of Hyrule, the concept of finding love has been but a fairy tail; the imaginative idea that a prince charming would sweep her off her feet and rescue her from the perils of the world was best left in her books. She is a honest romantic young woman and the idea of love does not evade her, she is just fairly new to the idea of a relationship as the offer of political marriage is no longer on the table as of current. Despite that; she finds herself fancyin' the young King Perseus, though she believes him to be way out of her league.

HUZZAH!!! It is a tad early, but ZRP is coming close to it's 1 year Anniversary! To celebrate the occasion, I, Nova -- have created a custom skin for Zelda RP!!! :clap emoji:

Things to look forward to with this new skin:

A decked out info center inside the banner!
A brand new character application template that is easier to customize and completely editable in the preview tab vs the bbc code tab!
Easier to navigate forum structure!
Members do not have to change anything in their mini-profile because they are the exact same!
MP3 Audio Player Plug-in!
and an OTM widget!

There will be much more to see once it is implemented, and for that I have to give my sincerest apologies. The forum will be put on maintenance from 12pm EST to 12 AM EST tomorrow on 8/14/2017. A full 12 hours so that I may appropriately put the new skin in and work out any bugs this may cause.

Staff will also be taking the time to clean up any old applications, and unfinished threads that need archived. So I suggest that you post on any threads you can before maintenance. There is a possibility it will be finished sooner, but that's unlikely ^-^ Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience but we can both agree that it is for the better!! I look forward to showing you all my hard work!
