Aiz took a moment, smirking as the Zora expressed his surprise to her reveal and title. Shrugging as she turned back to the darkened skies, she looked around for anything that may have been out of the ordinary. "You can believe or not, it matters not to me." He was likely not from Holodrum himself, which would make it harder for him to have recognized her uniform or sword.
"As for continuing on... we're still quite a bit away from the castle. We could continue on foot to lessen the noise of our horses, but it's up to you. I'm not sure of your ability to fight, but if you would feel overwhelmed should we come in contact with monsters, say it now, and we will rest until dawn," she said plainly, a hand resting over the hilt of her sword.
He spoke of the poe stalking them. Not just a poe, but the poe. Who was he referring to? She had only dealt with poe a number of times since she left Hyrule, but they all seemed the same; angry spirits that toyed with lost wanderers. "You say that as if you know what this creature is, or what it wants. I didn't see any poe on my arrival. Did you?"
Raising a brow at his notion of having no fear of the beasts as foolish, her arms crossed over her chest as she sighed. "Ah, you're young. I did not say I wasn't afraid of anything. But beasts of the night? Absolutely not. But I'm not foolish. I don't go out of my way to provoke them. But if I were to be approached it would not feign my ability to protect myself."
But yes, it had gotten dark quite earlier than normal. A show of the season's change into autumn. A smirk pursed upon the young hand's lips as she motioned to her sword at her side. "Traveling in pairs is payment enough. I would not ask you to spend your earnings on my assistance when I was the one who approached you."
Aiz looked out to the starry night, the cold breeze causing her skin to clam up as she stepped closer toward the fire. "Nex," she mused over his name. "I am called Aiz. Hand of King Asthar of Holodrum," she bowed politely before retreating to her knees near the fire.
Although the man's figure was hard to make out, as the sheikah stepped within the vicinity of the cave, the glowing embers gave light to reveal the man and his wares. As her vermilion eyes scanned over him carefully, she nodded as he confirmed where she thought he might be heading next.
"As am I," she responded plainly. "Although its not common to find travelers this far from the main road. Lots of monsters around these parts." Perhaps he was a trader? He must know the area well enough to confidently travel in a discreet fashion. Or maybe he was lost.
He had mentioned the dangers of the outsides, to which she turned to look back, the sounds of crickets and nocturnal beasts which hummed in the moonlight. "Perhaps it is, although I wouldn't say it would be a danger for me... I've been alive far to long to be afraid of creatures of the night."
Loosening herself into a relaxed stance, she let go of her intimidating persona as she examined the man carefully. A trader perhaps? He seemed to have quite a bit of inventory on him. "Although I must say I'm surprised to see someone travel alone with so much equipment on hand. I suppose it is irresponsible of me to travel alone as well though."
Stepping into the light, a shimmering uniform of red, black, and gold glistened into the fire. A Holodran seal which wove into her chest, she let her hand raise to her cheek, pushing her snowy hair from her eyes. "If you are heading into town, allow me to accompany you. It's safer to travel in pairs."
It was quite unorthodox for the King to send the hand in his favor; normally it was the other way around, and yet Asthar proved time and time again that he was anything but orthodox. She didn't mind it--much. But she would have preferred if he had sent her in his stead for any other place than Hyrule. It was still etched in her mind of the animosity she and the kingdom had toward each other.
It was nearing nightfall; day after day of travel which Aiz had made alone. Under better circumstance, perhaps she would have been escorted with a battalion, but the less attention she brought to herself, the better. The closer she was to the castle, the more tired she became, and with still quite a bit of journeying left, she had decided it was best to rest for the night.
Dismounting her horse, she pulled her bags from the saddle as she searched for a dry area for a fire, but suddenly a glimmer of light in the distance caught her attention. Another traveler? Or someone dangerous? If she were to make a fire, she would need to be sure that they would not attack in her sleep. Perhaps it was time to investigate.
Grabbing the reigns of her horse, she made way for the fire, seeing a lone man come into view as she approached."Sir, may I ask where it is you are headed?" she called out, her voice monotone, androgynous and somewhat tired.

"You... you can't be serious..." Aiz murmured, trying to take in what Asthar had just revealed. It was one thing to sneak in the casual relationship with the hylian girl, but to meet with the very tyrant who not only overthrew Hyrule, but also plans to wage war on Labrynna was ludicrous!
"I... can't stop you from making this decision. However, I highly believe you should allow me to assist you in this meeting--or at the very least bring your army. Going alone wouldn't be wise."
Since watching him since he was a young boy, she found it hard to keep tabs on him from the very beginning. Even in his youth, the king would make brash, impulsive decisions that were reckless to his safety.
She'd say he's the reason for her gray hair, but it came naturally for her, so she could avoid it. She looked over his wounds one last time carefully. Yeah, he says he'll tend to them... but when will that be?
"So when can I expect you disappear again? And what do I tell the council of your plans?"

"S-sir! You cannot simply expect that the care of Holodrum will rest only upon me! When I signed up as your voice and sword, centuries before your birth, it was never a worry on if I'd ever rule this land. It was never even a possibility until... I mean..." she felt her cheeks heat again in frustration.
"Forgive me for the bitter honesty, but you are by far the most irresponsible King I have ever served. Not in the sense that you do no good for your country, but you simply do not care of the boundaries which should be set to keep you safe! I would surely be unable to take your place. I doubt the people would have it that way." She sighed for a moment, trying to think more carefully of her words. "This is the reason an heir is detrimental to this Kingdom's future."
Asthar seemed not to worry too much about the future though, as it seemed. Once more, he assured that he wouldn't be letting his life go to waste just so soon, and she let out a tired breath in defeat. Nothing she would say would ever stop the wanderlust in his energetic soul, especially with the curious matters of the neighboring kingdoms.
His expression changed again - becoming more modest, almost hiding behind the hand that scratched his cheek as he turned to evade her gaze. A brow raised for a moment, and suddenly she felt nervous. "What do you mean for 'quite a while?' Please tell me you don't plan to get anymore involved in Hyrule..."
Maybe it was going over her head. She wasn't really accustomed to the idea of love anymore. It'd been centuries after all... but the bashful look, as though he was hiding something bigger than that made her wonder... he wouldn't hide something as big as that from her. He'd be more likely to hide--to hide--"You're... are you serious?"
It was happening again, wasn't it? That old Hylian blood was going to haunt her future again. Next thing she'd know, little hylian hybrids would be running around the castle and she'd be a slave to Hyrule again.
Her face paled in an instance and she felt her mouth go dry. "Please... please anyone but her... Even a different Hylian even--just not one with royal blood in the family tree..."
She thought she might lose her composure, but her attention remained focused on the poor bandaging across his torso. She scanned over it carefully as a hand slowly ran down against the broken fabric of the gause. She sighed, trying to forget the previous conversation. "It needs to be properly cleaned and rebandaged before it becomes infected."

He tried to play off as though the wounds he received weren't awful. Even so, it wouldn't stop her from assuming worry over his wellbeing. He mentioned their mission not going according to plan and how the King of Labrynna and his recent "sword" for hire had worse off injuries.
"Once again, I must urge you to be more rational in your decisions, your grace! Walking right into the lair of a tyrant is never the way! You could have been caught and your country would be declared to war! Perseus should have never done such a foolish quest - word has already been received that Eleazar plans to go to war with Labrynna," she sighed, shaking her head.
She looked around for a moment at the various decorations around the King's bedroom and took a step toward the vanity mirror, looking over her attire in the relfection. "And that girl... the sage girl. Did you finally let her loose? I haven't seen her around as much," she noted quietly.
She didn't trust Hylians. Especially ones with the blood of the old Royal Family - the same Royal family that was respsonsible for the deaths of millions in their attempt to unify the kingdom.
Turning back around, she tried to get an idea of just how 'nonchalant' his wounds actually were. "Take off your shirt and let me see where you were hit."

She could see right through his crooked smile that he was panicking. She knew this would be too much information to take in at once and she sighed, shrugging. "Of course, your majesty, it is only a suggestion, not an order. And please, sire, you know I don't like when you insult yourself."
She sighed as he tried to explain why marriage and children wasn't quite suited for him and she pursed her lips, trying to think of a response. "It's not that you can't, your highness, it's that you may be holding your standards a bit too high, perhaps? If we took some time to look for the right girl..."
She trailed off for a moment before sighing. Perhaps it was a bit too expectant of her to assume he'd comply with such a request. Still, she feared for the future, and of all the kings of Holodrum she had served, Asthar held the most potential. If only there was certainty of his bloodline's future.
She took note of his careful movements, before narrowing her eyes disappointingly. "You were wounded on the mission, your grace?"

Well, she certainly wasn't sure how she was going to get this one out without startling him. She took a deep breath as she followed him carefully, before they were then left to the privacy of his quarters. Letting out a sigh, she allowed for her voice to soften to its normal, less aggressive (and more feminine) tone.
"For one, you must understand that everything I'm about to relay comes from the utmost concern for the security of our Kingdom and its future. Especially with the threat continuing of a rogue fleet at our doorstep. I know your intentions are to remain neutral, but we feared the worst when you followed his Majesty, King Perseus in his attempt to take out the tyrant," she pursed her lips after that last part.
Honestly though, did he expect for everyone to assume he'd be just fine after not responding for days? 'We thought the worst may have happened in your absence... you neglected to alert us of your return home and whether or not you were safe. And so the council is urging that--well--"
She felt her cheeks heat up as her pale complexion flushed. "Well, that is--the council thinks it would be best if you were to have a successor--and seeing as you have no heirs and you're getting to be older..." her eyes widened as she then went pale. "Not to say that you aren't still young, your highness! What I mean to say is--we are running out of time, and it would be appropriate to find you a queen soon..."
She gave a sheepish smile. She didn't really get anxious explaining things like this. But with a free spirit like Asthar being pressured to settle down to pop out some kids, she found it a bit uncomfortable to explain. "That is... what the council believes, I mean."

Looking down at the young king, she narrowed her eyes carefully as she watched him jump out of his drowsy stupor and back onto his feet. Sighing at his realization, she felt a sense of relief that the king hadn't come into serious harm while he was away.
He had mentioned that they had much to discuss and she nodded in agreement. "I concur, sir. The council has summoned for a request in your near future for the sake of the kingdom--" she stopped herself, thanking over her words carefully.
Following him quickly, she tried to think of an appropriate continuation. "Well, what I mean is... we should really talk about this in private," she assured him. This was definitely something he wasn't going to like she assumed.

Swift as ever, Aizen strode through the city with haste upon her horse as she approached the castle quickly. Word of her Highness's return rang through the capital and as she finished up with a Holodran council meeting, she returned immediately.
She stormed through the front doors, scanning the areas quickly for her King. She had not heard a word from him after his announcement of "We're gonna try to kill Eleazar". She was left wondering of his survival for almost a week! With his death being rumored throughout the kingdom, others sought to Aizen for protection, as since Asthar had no heirs, she was to take his place.
But rather than take control, she insisted to wait it out, and so she moved to the shadows, taking a bit of a breather from her castle life. Why hadn't she known sooner that the King had returned?
Searching the corridors for him, and making note of him not being present in the throne room, she began looking in every room she passed before stumbling upon his sleeping body on the floor.
Was he that exhausted? "Your Grace," Aiz called out loudly. "Would you have me assist you to your room?"
Aiz had sifted through her various items of clothing to bring on this trip that Asthar so desperately insisted that she take part in - and truthfully, she had no idea why. But for the sake of her identity, she wasn't about to just jump in a lake with a bunch of people who ASSUMED she was male... not that she ever corrected them either way. She actually preferred it. That way there weren't as many questions as to whom she was or why she was banished.
She had been waiting upon the docks with Asthar and Haku, another poor victim in Asthar's excursions. Standing tall and upright with ebony armor upon her, one hand was fallen past her waist while the other was rested upon the hilt of her sword sheathed at her side. They were waiting for their guests - two of which were from the Royal Hyrulean Family.
"Your grace, may I ask once more why you insisted on me being here? Perhaps you have forgotten the reason I left Hyrule to begin with - to get the hell away from the reincarnations and their sheikah dogs." she spoke in a rather nervous tone. Not only was she expecting for The hero and Hylia reborn to make a show, but one of their Sheikah was as well... which meant that she was going to have to deal with proper traditional guard dogs.
Still, she knew better than to speak too much out of line. Whatever Asthar wanted, she would certainly give if she had the ability - and he wanted desperately for her to come along... though it didn't seem to make sense to her. Wasn't the point of being a hand of the King so that she may take his place while he is away from the throne? Who was to worry about Horon City while they were both away? He had no queen! And his little girlfriend was standing beside them as well!
This was about to be a huge mess. She just knew it.
The Sheikah race was by far one of the most mysterious races among the core within Hyrule - but the strangest part of it all was their unflinching loyalty to the Royal Family of Hyrule. You are born to serve until you die - at least - that's what they always told you. [break][break] Aizen Kai was born into the traditional Sheikah village of Kakariko, where her family served under the Royal King for generations. It was said that the Kai Clan had served since the days of the original Goddess, however it was only orally passed on, rather than given fact with texts. She lived a generally normal Sheikah lifestyle - spending most of her days training and learning what it had meant to become a Sheikah. [break][break] During this time, they were planning for the eventual union of every race within Hyrule's border under one banner - many of which objected to and apparently disagreed with. It was a Sheikah's duty to bear this burden with silence though, and despite many who thought this a tyrannical or dangerous plan, they were forced to keep their emotions about it hidden. [break][break] Aizen was among one of these people. She believed that each race had the right to rule on their own, though she was not stupid enough as to open her mouth and ask questions. She knew what it meant to be Sheikah, and by divine law, she was required to serve under the Royal Banner. [break][break] Aizen finished her training at the age of 20, at which point they had begun their scour to hand pick the best Sheikah for protecting each of the Royal Family. The council themselves were responsible with such a task, and any Sheikah were not chosen were simply left to be normal guards of the castle, who watched from the shadows. [break][break] Those who were not bound to the royal member for life only had to serve 75 years before retiring. The family had been small this time - just one boy, whom was heir to the throne. Only after he was married and had one child did they begin to choose others. Each of these times, Aizen was never chosen. [break][break] When it had come to that time where they would select a Sheikah for the princess, Aizen was outvoted by another Sheikah close in age - Impa. The two of them had butted heads for most of their training due to their competitiveness with outdoing each other, but as time passed, they grew to be fond of each other, eventually becoming the best of friends. [break][break] And lovers. [break][break] Though disappointed that she was not picked for the duty, she was happy for Impa - though that happiness did not last for very long. With the birth of the princess, war had overshadowed the kingdom. It had seemed that several Sheikah had turned on the Royal Family in disagreement with their conquest for the rest of Hyrule. Their first act was to kill the queen, whom had still been resting post partum. [break][break] The Sheikah did not act alone though. Rebels from every race - especially the Gerudo Tribe had come forward to wage war upon the Royal Banners, and Aizen was forced to the front lines to fight alongside - and against her own people. [break][break] When the war had ended, the casualty count seemed endless, and many of the Sheikah were killed in battle. It was evident after these events that they were now considered an "endangered race". Any and all able bodied Sheikah were now required to serve the throne, even if they had retired. Impa went on to serve, not only as the attendant to Zelda, but as a mother as well. [break][break] Their relationship had strained from the war. With the looming darkness that would follow now that the Gerudo have made their obvious efforts against them, Aizen had been put upon a special forces squad. She often traveled away from the castle, while Impa was left to care for the child. [break][break] Upon Aizen's return home after months of being away, an interesting discovery was made. A young boy, claimed to be of the Kokiri Forest had forced his way into the castle, claiming that he has seen what will happen, and stopped it all with the Ocarina of Time. He had gathered the spiritual stones, wielded the Master Sword, and stopped the King of the Gerudo... only to be sent back in time to warn the King. [break][break] He named each of the sages required to keep them safe, as well as gave every detail of his time in the future to the Royal Family, before the King then demanded war and the execution of Ganondorf. [break][break] In this time, Impa was left with one revelation - she was the Shadow Sage, and her duty was to protect it until the war had ended. And as such she felt she could no longer give Aizen what she wanted. She asked for the care of Kakariko Village to be left with the council on the sole exception that Aizen no longer be sent to fight on the front lines, to lend her knowledge to the council themselves, as well as keep the peace in Kakariko between the Hylians and remaining Sheikah. [break][break] Aizen was outraged, to say the least. She felt insulted that she was not even given the choice to fight, have her love taken away, and now she was left to watch over a town that was slowly dwindling its numbers. [break][break] Of course, after the events of the Gerudo War, Impa was able to return from the temple, however it was as though she were completely different. All the time she spent in isolation, praying and away from the company of others had made her grow colder and without need for conversation, and while Aizen was relieved to hear of her safety, Impa could not give her the time of day. She simply had to return to her duties as attendant to Princess Zelda. [break][break] Heartbroken, now having lost her family in the war and the only friend and lover she ever knew, she was left only with the duty of serving under the Sheikah Council, which had taken quite an interest in her due to her wisdom and skill. Despite not even being a century old yet, they had decided among themselves that she would benefit their future needs, and asked her to join them. [break][break] Aizen was always more of a fighter though - and the thought of sitting around with a bunch of old men and women and deciding the fate of their people sounded dreadfully boring. But she knew that she had a promise to keep to Impa - and despite their newfound differences and separation, she intended to keep it. [break][break] And so, Aizen served the Sheikah council, for many, many years. Over those years she had witnessed the near extinction of her people, and their eventual growth once more, as well as the death of Impa, when she was taken just before the Twilight invasion. [break][break] Just after the Twilight Invasion, a sudden change in law had been placed that Kakariko Village would no longer be housing anyone other than the Sheikah race - and anyone who refused to leave would be forced out. Though Aizen tried to protest, it was ultimately agreed on behind her back by the rest of the council. She had no idea why, and there was no explanation as for what would come next. [break][break] Little did she know that the council had sent out specialists to kill any remaining people whom were living within the village who had not listened. It was the final straw for Aizen, but when she confronted them of their wrongdoing, she was met with expulsion. [break][break] There wasn't even a warning. The council members had simply stated that if she felt the need to argue with her elders, perhaps she did not belong. [break][break] But rather than simply leaving the council to return to her original duties, she decided to leave the Kingdom completely. [break][break] Marked an undesirable within Hyrule's bounds, she is no longer welcome in the eyes of the council, though she sneaks around every so often to keep an eye on how things are going. Perhaps that is how she got noticed by one of the previous rulers of Holodrum. Upon exile, she arrived here, where she had heard several other Sheikah considered to be undesirable had fled as well (if they were not banished to the Twilight Realm, that is), but to properly avoid any kind of humiliation of running into anyone she recognized, she had ultimately decided to disguise as a male and shorten her name from Aizen to Aiz. [break][break] Overtime, she earned titles from the previous rulers, as the appointed mercenary, to appointed knight, to hand of the king. It seems she had only left one Royal Family for another. [break][break] She's seen now three separate incarnations of the Princess and her Hero, each being remarkable in their own way, and yet she still felt as though she were talking to the same little girl she met when she was just a young woman herself.
+ Night Vision: All Sheikah are able to see in the dark if they possess crimson colored eyes; however, they will glow in the darkness, making Sheikah a target for attacks if the others cannot see in the shadows. [break][break] + Lens of Truth: Sheikah have a natural ability to resist illusionary magic of equal or lower rank of their arcane trait. [break][break] + Weak to Light: Sheikah are weak to light attacks due to their natural ability to thrive with shadow based magic. Due to this, they will take extra damage to light magic. [break][break] NIGHTFALL SEMBLANCE: This illusion requires both nighttime and eye contact to be performed, trapping the target within an illusion completely under the user's control. This results in the victim suffering psychological trauma that incapacitates them for a considerable period of time. She is unable to bring harm to these people - and therefore must stay still to continue keeping eye contact, however, it is useful to instill fear in someone, often used for defense. It does not work on Sheikah of higher rank, and can be easily countered by distracting or removing Aizen's eye contact. [break][break] KINGSLAYER: A sword which she used to slay King Galadhion during his execution, which was witnessed among all the Kingdoms after he had gone mad and overtook Hyrule. Aizen was chosen to be the executionist due to her neutrality and ability to collect herself in high stress situations.
