"Cheap"? It took her a bit to understand that what the cook said was a joke, well a joke hopefully. From Sky's point of view getting a free meal was a great way to save on her own money. After all the payment from Cal would have gone towards getting food anyways, getting him to simply pay for it upfront at his own expense was cutting out the middle man.
After all normally she wouldn't even come to a place like this, often stopping at the markets to by dried and salted foods. This was actually a nice change of pace and if Cal's interaction with the restaurant head was anything to go by their time at the store would be just as lively. Once more an aspect she wasn't fully used to unless traveling with other people which besides one other person hadn't really happened before.
The little trip down memory lane was put on hold as she heard Cal call her name again, Sky's eyes shifting to the side as he queried about prior travels. "Some pleasant some deadly, though I've never really traveled alone". Be it other adventures or her stalfos minions but she was keeping that a secret for the time being. "Probably the most interesting trip I took as of late would be the one to Hyrule itself, partnered up with a Kokiri while on the road, a mature one, quite old but still childlike".
"She was fun to be with, ended up traveling back to the forest with her and continuing on by myself into the lost woods towards the temple". "Would like to meet with her again but with the plague and other problems in the heart lands I won't be going back their anytime soon, quite unfortunate". Hopefully their village and other lands would be kept hidden, the forest wasn't the most welcoming to hostile people.
"That being said not eveything is fun and games, plenty of monsters and bandits on the road that would be more then willing to take you out for any hard earned items on your person". "Often times I've had to travel by nigh or through other methods to stay safe, half the reason I wear this sort of clothing". Her hands motioning to the dark simple cloak still around her body, hiding away what ever the young women was carrying underneath.
The smile upon the mans face came off as a little... odd in her mind, never the least she didn't say anything, keeping her thoughts to herself for the time being. Sky following behind her new acquaintance as their moved through the streets, some of it being familiar to herself though it would seem Cal was leading her towards a different part of town, an area she hadn't really bothered to go much in the past.
Sky simply nodded at the name coming from Cals mouth, herself not knowing who they were, though her mouth salivated at the thought of this so called Ko being a very good cook. The wafting smell of food running along the stone streets and into the girls nose, this was certainly the food hub. Her eyes shifting around with each step, trying to spot the stall which Cal was leading them to, each passing second her expectations full of wonder.
Street food always had this unique feel to it that an Inn or Taven just couldn't replicate and unlike said places a street stall was encouraged even more to provide a good meal as customers had to go out of their way in order to eat their. Soon her eyes were drawn towards Cals goal, following the mans hands to where he pointed, Sky's gaze falling upon a small restaurant like building, it certainly wasn't what she expected, in fact it kind of blasted her perceptions quite easily.
Her head peaked out from behind Cal as the owner greeted them in a fashion that seems like close family, the two must have known each other for quite a long time. Thier interaction was quite blazent, but she had to smile at the mans joking manner upon greeting Cal, it was interesting to see someone else with such a close relationship. It reminded her of Sarah, though their were quite a few differences the charm and embarrassment was their.
Reaching out her smaller hand grasped Ko's giving is a short shake, "Um, pleasure to meet you, I am Sky, me and Cal will be traveling together of the next few days". "We are here because he promise a... forward payment for me experience in the coming trip". It was the best way to say it in her mind, lest someone make a joke about the two being on a date or something, Ko certainly seemed like the person to make such jokes. "As for food, honey chicken was on my mind, the sweet texture of the honey coating along with the tender chicken breasts underneath is always a goddess send". It also preserved relatively well believe it or not.
Despite the awkwardness of the situation it was nice ti visit once in a while. Sarah could be a bit of a handful but she meant well most of the time. "Yes they are interesting to say the least, don't know as many these days, a lot of have taken in by other family's or just grown up and left of their own, maybe it wouldn't hurt to see what the new batch of children are like sometime".
Sky had plans to return after the new venture, take a load off for a month perhaps before getting out into the wild again, maybe learn a few more skills to help her along the way, it would seem that the teaching staff had gotten a little better at the orphanage since her time there.
Letting out a small sigh the two exited the building, Sky pulling up her cloak once more, the lowering suns warm gaze no longer reaching her. Though no stranger to the cold she wasn't really that fond of it either, Horon for the most part being a warm country andher most roamed area's being pleasant as well. As she began to walk her attention shifted from the weather back towards her new companion, cocking her head to the side at his rather out of the blue offer.
"You paying me with food for my services"? Well to be fair she didn't get much time to eat as per coming into the town she was promptly swept up by the conversation between the two men. Needless to say she could go for a nice evening meal, perhaps pick up some traveling rations as well. Though they would probably have a chance to pick some wild vegetation and fish a pently it was always wise to stock up on salted meats and cookies.
"Hmm, I could go for some nice roast chicken to be honest, dipped in honey sauce", her sweet tooth coming out with the offer of anything. She may come off as a somber, fashion lacking girl at some times but even she couldn't resist the taste of anything sweet. "You know a place around here? Or shall I lead the way again"?
A short chuckle cam from Sarah as she reached out to shake Cals hand. "Mentor is streching it, I guess older sister figure would be a better word". "As for the lesson, just simple manners and how to talk with people, if you think Sky is distant and cold now, oh my you should have met her a few years ago". "The girl rarely talked with anyone and just often death glared half the people in this place", time made quite a difference.
"You are welcome to stay as long as you pull your own wait, after all I think you are a little above the age for caretaking around here". If to punctuate her point another set of giggling kids ran by. Sky taking the short distraction to step forwards, handing over a few from her satchel. "We have other plans for the evening, I just thought to stop by, see how things are going and give what I can to keep this place up and running, one of the few good things this city has".
Sarah was more then happy to pick up the green jewels, giving the younger women a pat on the back. "Now now do be all down in the dumps, there are still many good things about this place, and always thank you for the small donation". "It was also nice to meet you Cal, one think I can say is despite her quirks Sky is a capable traveler, you made good meeting her". Her mature women giving another warm smile before taking her place back behind her makeshift desk.
"I may be back in a few weeks, it was nice seeing you again but we should be off, have a decent length trip planned the following day". Herself turning back to Cal, "you ready to head out again"?
Even if many things had changed around town in these back alleys were absent from it. There purpose probably dating back to when the capital City was still growing, now only used by locals or those trying to hide from prying eyes. As the duo moved through the stony like maze she often came across familiar land marks and establishments, giving indications of their proximity to the coming goal.
Her eyes briefly turned away from the path to stare back towards Cal, "they are as much family as one can be, but not I am not related, the place we are headed is a orphanage". As her final words were uttered the duo came to stand in-front of a slightly larger building, a small sign on the door confirming Sky's words. The muffled chatter and shuffling from people inside just making it past the door, "whelp, home sweet home I suppose".
Taking in a deep breath Sky pushed the wooden doors open, moving into a small open room like area made into a make shift reception. Down the varying hallways the odd child and caretaker moved, most busy with daily activities, all expect one mature women seemingly manning the front desk. "Ah, welcome just give me a second I have to-" Her weathered gaze shifting up to the duo with a little surprise, lingering on Cal before shifting over to herself.
"S-sky? is that you"? Said women moving from her seat and leaning down a little to look Sky in the eyes, a hand running along her cheek, up to the scar she bore across her eye. "It's a while since we last saw you, still in relatively good health... aside from this, guessing a life of an adventure as safe as you once thought hmm"? Her slightly worried look slowly being replaced by a more warm expression. "It is only a flesh wound, but yes it is nice to be see you again Sarah, just stopping by to see how things are holding up, won't be here long, got a new job al-".
Her sentence was probably cut off as Sarah moved to Cal, giving him a sharp gaze, eyeing each part of his body. "Hmm, didn't know you were one to make friends, and with a guy no doubt, at lest some of my lessons sunk in, fufufufu".
"So like a pawn shop then"? Didn't sound like a business that would make a whole heap of money if it never had a constant line of products. But then again some people were always in need of unique items that were hard to find, perhaps she'd find something of value herself while there.
"As expected, I am no stranger to a little bit of house work or shop tending, just don't expect me to be very good with customers". She was never really a people person, less so in Horon, there was always the risk of running into someone she may know, but in less friendly terms. "Maybe it will be a good chance to brush up on some recipes if we have to cook, I could certainly use a few more to have around when traveling". The same old trail meals tended to get old fast, more so with how often Sky moved around. Come to think of it, by now the young women had probably lived most of her life on the road save for Horon city.
"Seems like we have our self a deal, I shall lead the way", her arms gesturing out to have Cal follow her as she began to slowly trod down the cobblestone road. Weaving in between varying buildings as she made her way deeper into the city, though clearly heading into the lesser built up areas.
She shook her head at Cal's question, "no not really, I mean it closer then where we are but it is still a bit towards the center of town, in the poorer part of the city". Where most orphans came from, either through dead parents, abandonment or street children looking for a slightly better life. As such it was more in the center of the lower runs of society, allowing those who needed it to gather without much worry. Even if the two didn't opt to spend time there Sky would visit, she had a decent amount of trinkets they could sell to help afford food and other amenities that always seemed in short supply.
"If we plan to leave soon in the morning your friends places seems like the ideal place", It would most likely be less noisy to and their would be a chance of a proper bed... hopefully anyways. "I do plan on stopping home, we can do that now or you can show me to your friends place and I can come back later, which ever works best for you I'm not to picky". A life on the road tended to do as such, you learnt not to complain about little things like errand orders. "Work is fine as long as we get some sort of compensation, what type of place does this friends of yours own"?
Sky had to cock her head to the side a little at the mans sudden use of language, herself wondering what the robed individual could want down in the regular market, surely they'd have the necessary means to obtain them... right? Regardless it seemed such words concluded his departure, soon leaving the duo by themselves in the city streets, Sky turning her attention back to Cal as they began to walk on their way. "Yes, this is where I grew up, not that I have many nostalgic memories about here". Her tone indicating that she probably didn't live the best of lives compared to the regular Horon people. "With Hyrule under lock down I decided I may as well stop buy for a few day while planning my next trip, though it would appear that has already been sorted out". It would be interesting traveling with a few people, often she went solo, or with just one person and even then not for very long.
"I would offer to show you around, but to be honest I don't really know a whole lot, never went to the more built up areas of the city". She never head any real reason nor was really allowed to go there, a lack of money often did that to people. "And the places that I do know will have undoubtedly changed in the years I have been traveling". "... I don't suppose you have a place to stay around here? I mean, we could go to my place, that is if you are willing to take care of a few children while you are in town".
She doubted either of them were young enough to stay at an orphanage anymore, but the caretakers probably wouldn't mind an extra hand around the place. "Other wise an inn works just fine".
Sky didn't say much more, just simply nodding to the Cal. Personally she wasn't to invested in this mans desires for change, though it was something she hoped would happen it was doubtful a single person along could accomplish such a task. No, her main reason for agreeing to this trip was to get away from the capital city, do some more exploring and possibly get paid. For now she had made a decision and was sticking by it, the only unknown factor was the other man who seemed to be quite invested with conversing about the mans 'dream'.
True she couldn't fault the man for wanting to pick at Cal's personal views but it seemed like the man had a higher stake in the matter for some reason. Perhaps it was a hunch but Sky got the feeling there was more to this man then met the eye, a tiny gut feeling also alerting to a slight familiarity. Still it could just be her paranoia acting up due to showing her face, that constant feel that they would ask question upon learning her name. One thing was certain each of the three standing here were not your ordinary travelers, such that could make or break a very powerful trio... if they were one anyways.
Similar to Cal Sky had no real idea what the other man intentions where, it seemed as though he was testing the resolve of the soap box speaker. It seemed a little clique but to be honest it was a good gauge of someones character, again if that was his goal, "not that I want to rush you or anything but perhaps we could move out of the street and talk someplace else".
Well, it seemed her words had gotten the attention of this man and even if her offer was somewhat out of the blue Sky wasn't really interested in sticking around for long. Not that her skill set could get much work around here, traveling as a guard or guide was about the best sort of living she could do. Besides, if word got around about her unusual practices the city guard or some fanatic group would come after her, wouldn't be the second time.
Though any reply would not come as the men began to once again began to talk about ideology and other things, and though several decent points where made at the end of it all the subject didn't really interest Sky. Once more the women moved a bit to the side, leaning up again a wall while the two squabbled, onto looking back once she was addressed by the man introducing himself to be Cal. Probably some sort of nickname if she had to guess, though one could not be certain. "The Sunken City, yes I have been there before, I am guessing you can swim then if you are looking to travel there". Her reply coming with a small smirk, pushing off the wall and rejoining the duo.
She glanced down a bit at the raided hand, her eyes looking around a bit before her hand came up, though instead of going to Cal's her's went to her hood. Pulling back Sky showed her face, the strange black mist vanishing revealing a young women with long black hair and almost crystal blue eyes. A sight that many would find quite nice if not for the large scar running near to her left eye, "it is nice to meet you Cal, my name is Sky". Her response coming with a small greeting bow instead of a hand shake.
For the most part the two men did not seem to notice Sky's presence off to the side, for the moment such a case being just fine. It allowed to ample chance to glean the conversation and gather an understanding of what the two were like. The one in the yellow cloaked seemed a little overly friendly through, it was hard to place a finger on it but gut feeling told sky the man was just trying to get into the good books of the corner speaker. Either that or she was being overly paranoid again, people could be nice, more so ones looking for work, and if that mans was truly a mercenary perhaps they were just scoping out a potential employer.
Speaking of which the man slowly shifted towards the elaboration of his own trip, detailing the need for company, definitely a person who would want a mercenary at their side. Though things took a slight turn as attention was suddenly shifted to her, Sky looking up slightly at the two, once more her face being shrouded in a peculiar shadow, only her blue gaze penetrating the mystical barrier. "My being here was more chance, I was just vising home, been a while since I've come back to Horon, spent the last year and a bit traveling around, from Hyrule, the Lost Woods, Death Mountain and everywhere in between".
Her voice fell silent for a few moments before speaking up once more, "you say you are looking for traveling companions, perhaps an experience one such as myself would be of interest". "Also if you wish to know I can hold my own in a fight, you need not worry about my well being on dangerous roads".
The taste of dirt filled her mouth a little before moving her head up to gaze upon the world around, though where the sun should be her eyes were case upon a strangely familiar looking face. Her eye continued to look at him from within the almost unnatural shroud covering her facial features, a slight sigh escaping Sky's lips. "Depends, I do have some things that people would not find attractive, though such is no the reason for hiding my face". No doubt the long scar across her eyes wasn't the prettiest thing to look at, man or women alike.
Before the conversation could continue her would be rescuer had turned away, slightly yanking Sky to her feet as she grasped his hand, stumbling a little in the direction of the sudden attention grasping event. With a careful step, hand bring her cloak fully up Sky followed the man towards the sound of a very uplifting speech. She eyed him up carefully, not sure what to make of the mans words. True, his preaching did make sense but there was always the chance of ulterior motives with those string up the lower class among any kingdom.
Many people were more then willing use such methods to get themselves or some other order into power, such things had happened many times in the past, who was to say this man was any different. As the two conversed she merely stood to the side, observing quietly, seeing what the outcome of their conversation would be.
Horon, home... not much different if she had anything to say about it, just another reminder of why she left a year ago. Unfortunate to say her time away was cut very short. True, death was something she dealt with almost everyday, her powers revolving around corpse and bones, but even she was smart enough to leave Hyrule before things went to crap.
Her first stop? the lower cities, she wondered if the orphans she grew up in was still there, the chances being quite high if the state of living around here hadn't changed. Drapped in a long black cloak, eyes covered with a strange shroud that only made her eyes visible Sky stalked down the streets, gazing upon the poppers wandering around.
"Some things just never get old", she doubted anyone could get used to this sort of sight, regardless of if they lived here or not. It was a state of live no one should have to be apart of. Sooner or late such a society would collapse, the wealthy unable to put food on their table once all the presents start to drop, no doubt blood feuds and wars breaking out due to dwindling supplies.
She was quite distracted in thought, pondering, that her eyes did not look forwards, only when it was too late did Sky see the threat. A man walking out from another street whom she was on a direct crash coarse for, her feet unable to halt in time. The sudden impact send her tumbling to the side, a firm 'oof' coming from her body upon landing face down, a small amount of dust flying up from her body."Great... just great".
