After time away from the camp, Garrett found it to be unsettling that he received a letter all the way in Holodrum. With his master being killed by Eleazar, to receive a letter with his royal logo stamped across it was the biggest insult.
How did he find where he was? Who did he have that was dear to him? The note lay crumpled in his bag he journeyed the Isle with before arriving to the darkened city. It was strangely quiet tonight, as though they were expected to arrive for an event that was yet to start.
What was happening? Just as he had arrived, a Rito had fallen into his path, as well as another Sheikah.
Esmerelda's sheikah.
"Vaida," Garrett said abruptly. "What's happening? Who does he have?"
His fears started to settle as he thought about it. Had the other siblings been captured? Was Eleazar finally executing each of the royal family?
When Kura retorted to Mal's unnecessary nagging about his slang, he rose a brow as she found it hard to finish her sentence. "Soon you'll be what?--Hey! You can't just say something like that and not finish it! You're so grown up you get to go smooch the king, is that it?" he smirked, giving a teasing expression as he followed her into the corridor.
He couldm't quite place it; though he loved teasing Kura about it. There was something about the two of them that really miffed him, but he couldn't find one reason why he wasn't good enough for her. He was a King; one who was considered to be the best archer in all of Labrynna - so he knew his way around a weapon, and how to protect someone. He looked way too pretty for a dude though, and that kind of bothered him. "Yeah, yeah, when a schmuck like that wants alone time with the princess, we all know what that means, missy."
They came to a halt as purple mist clouded the only way to the door, and he immediately planted his feet beside Kura, watching it carefully as it became visible in the air - a physical apparition that appeared ready to harm them, and he took note of its lantern, and then the medallion,
"Alright. These things are tricky. When I was in training, we fought a lot of these. When you can see through them, they can't be harmed. But most physical attacks should work on it."
He brought out his blade once more, readying it in place should it try to attack before she can react.
As the chuchus all became liquid goop to the hands of their blades, Garrett swiftly turned around to face Kura, making sure that she wasn't being overwhelmed by the many that made their appearance. She, however, seemed to be having no trouble popping them like bubbles in eagerness. Well, at least she can kill bubbles.
"Looks like Art's lessons are starting to get a grasp on your memory at least," he smirked, looking forward to see the chest that came into view. After hearing Kura's inquirement of there being a key, he shrugged. "Sometimes chests are supposedly rewarded for completing a trial, such as slaying all enemies in a room. These temples were used as trials of strength for the past heroes, so I assume the logic still holds the same."
Slowly approaching the chest himself, he looked around carefully to make sure that nothing else was going to pop out as they went to open it. The hall was long, and became darker as the torches became fewer. At the edge of the wall near the end of the corridor, there was a switch on the floor, seemingly triggered by the weight of a person. He immediately pointed toward it.
"Hey, that might trigger a door to appear. Either way, that's our best bet for finding a way further in." He kept Kura at arm's length, but became cautious of the wooden chest. What could be inside of it? Well, there was only one way to find out.
Kick!
Slamming his foot into the side of the wooden box, the top flew open, revealing a small, silver key. "Well, this is some ass backwards logic." Picking it up in his hand, he looked around for a moment, trying to find something that this would possibly fit inside. "Maybe... it's for a door in another room?"
Oh boy, was Garrett already getting annoyed with Malikeith's backseat advice. As he had went to advise him not to light the torch, the room began to rumble and he was scolded for it. He groaned, turning around quickly as his eyes darted for Malikeith's. "What do you expect is gonna happen!? This place is riddled with traps and there's nothing else to do here, this is the only way to proceed! Did you just expect us to stand around and wait for something to happen?"
He was quickly cut off by the Princess's shriek and the two of them had moved in carefully to keep her in their sights. As the door had slid open they slowly began to proceed further into the ancient hall. Garrett's eyes began to glow in the darkness as he kept the torch up beside the young princess as they continued further.
They came to a bitter halt when the sounds of something moist began to drop from the ceiling. Pulling back on Kura's arm, he put a hand up to motion for them to freeze in place, looking further past Malikeith to get an idea of what they were dealing with.
Suddenly the floors surrounding them were riddled with Chuchus, and they were slithering closer to them. "Alright, Kura, these things are easy. See the green and red ones? Those ones can't hurt you too badly. Just stab at them! Watch out for the yellow ones though, because they can electrify your weapon if you aren't careful."
Before he could get a response from her, he quickly turned his back, pressing it against hers so that he wouldn't lose track of her. Blade in hand, he allowed for some of the chuchus to come toward him, taking a leap as he slashed at them and allowed them to explode into a burst of jelly.
Malikeith gave the go ahead for Garrett to lead them into the old, dusty temple, which he didn't really mind. He peered in, red eyes glowing as his head slowly sifted forward into the opening, looking for where they might go. Narrowing his eyes, he knew that this would be a lot harder if Kura wasn't able to see. "This place has been visited by many heroes," he made note. "Heroes who bear no Sheikah blood. So there must be something here to make the sight a bit easier."
Suddenly, Kura's hand clasped onto his, and his eyes widened and he looked to her in a startle. "Wh-whoa hey, what's the matter? Don't tell me you're chickening out already?" he chuckled, looking back into the temple and taking a step forward. "Let me see here..."
He started to walk forward, entering the enormous room. Still as the sands, everything was frozen in time, untouched for centuries, as it seemed. Or perhaps, that's what whatever lurked inside wanted you to think. With how easy it was to get inside, it's a real wonder why no one has ever tried looting the place.
There was another set of doors, this time upon an elevated area with mossy, stone steps. On either side, there were two unlit torches. "Excellent," he said, carefully moving through the ruined room with Kura close behind him. "I think I might have some matches..." he sifted through his pockets quickly, pulling out a small paper box. Taking out one of the matchsticks, he swiped it across the flinted edge, dropping it into the torch. He did the same with the other.
SLAM.
Garrett turned back around, his arm hovering over Kura in instinct as the trio watched the entree door suddenly slam shut. The entire temple began to rumble beneath their feet; dust, broken pieces of the architecture, and leaves falling and crumbling in every direction.
And then it stopped.
The sound of a lock clicking echoed through the surroundings, the source coming from the door between the torches. It appeared to unlock, triggered by the lighting of the flames.
Garrett wasn't exactly thrilled to be going on this vacation, but he wasn't upset either. Finally, he'd be able to find some time and relax and take a nice hot bath... but he couldn't let Kura know that. No one was allowed to find out just how much he was looking forward to visiting the bathhouse on the island. He had heard many wonderful things about this resort in particular, but of course, you could only go by invite only.
Thank the gods they were actually friends with the King of Holodrum. Kura of course, was ecstatic at the idea of going on this romantic getaway with her little boyfriend, to which Garrett couldn't help but roll his eyes at the thought. And no, he was NOT jealous. He was simply in the belief that the two had rushed through things and haven't properly gotten to know each other.
Still, he held his tongue on the matter because he knew that Kura was happy, and as long as she was distracted from the heavier moments of war, then he was relieved. The three of them had made their way to the ship after a fairly quiet carriage ride, to be reunited with Queen Zelda and Elinkar - someone whom he was already familiar with seeing at the Heroes of Hyrule base just a few days before. Of course, Kura had jumped on the opportunity of accompanying Perseus to the ship so that Zelda and Link would not have to travel much farther than they had to.
It still had only been a few weeks since Link's rescue, and he was still fragile in terms of mentality. So the less travel, the better. The boat ride was rather quiet as well, but of course, Kura was excited. And when they had finally arrived to the port, Asthar, Aryllia, and two of their attendants were waiting for them. huh. I never would have guessed that there were more Sheikah outside of Hyrule... he thought to himself. However, he was quickly caught by the sudden realization that he was going to have to carry Kura's things to the resort.
Garrett wasn't sure what to say when she had apologized to him. It left him stunned, unsure of how to proceed, or how to even respond! His cheeks grew red as he looked down, feeling rather uncomfortable now that Malikeith had been standing around them, and he didn't want to get berated for being so affected by her words, and he huffed, crossing his arms and hiding his face in the large collar of his robes.
"You know you don't have to apologize for anything right? Whether you're a brat or not, it's my job to watch over you," he smirked, watching her efforts to get the door opened. Truthfully, he hoped they wouldn't, and that they'd go home empty handed so that he could at least say that she were safe. But another part of him was truly curious as to what was inside.
So when the doors had finally opened, and Kura turned to them with a wide grin, the awe that swept over his face caught him off guard, as he looked to Malikeith in surprise. He was not expecting her to figure out how to open those doors so quickly, and now he began to wonder just why people never found the secrets within this temple. Getting in wasn't hard. But maybe getting out was.
"I get you feel like you have some kind of destiny to take part in for your sister, but... I mean, either history is really cruel to their companions or there is no record of there ever being anyone that helped the Princess or the Hero so significantly. I mean--other than the sages and whoever accompanies Link, there's a very consistent cycle of whom is involved and who is not," Garrett explained with concerned.
"I don't want you to think that I don't believe in your strength or ability. But we also shouldn't mess with the laws of nature. The very cycle itself has proven to be merciless to those who try to intervene," he frowned, peering into the dungeon carefully. "Though... I hope whatever we find in here is worth it..."
As it turned out, Kura was actually doing this to help Zelda, despite the heir not having any knowledge of this expedition. Garrett furrowed his brows for a moment as he scratched the back of his head in wonder, looking to Malikeith who.... surprisingly agreed with him for once. "Old man has a point," he nodded. "I know that uh... the various heroes of the past could do these alone, but he has like... twice the strength and wits of a normal person. I mean, when the gods forged a hero, they made him spectacular for a reason. No common person could undertake such a task. And despite your lineage, it isn't comparable."
Though Kura seemed to have enough of their disagreement, as she made the firm decision of going in with or without them, Garrett raised a brow, wondering if she really would. Honey. You wouldn't last 5 minutes in there alone.he thought to himself with a smirk. He knew that there would be no way to convince her otherwise though, and that she was dead set on finding something to aid the queen.
"I didn't realize you two were getting along so swimmingly," Garrett murmured quietly. Kura had already been walking from the two and heading toward the entrance though, to which Garrett looked to Malikeith in apprehension. "She's not going to last five minutes by herself. Even with all the poise in the land, she barely has the grace to walk through a forest without getting into trouble."
He let out an exasperated sigh as he started to skulk behind the girl, hands dug into his deep pockets of his caftan. Though his body language presented that he was dreading this, he still held some curiosity in regards as to what was left unrest inside.
"Wait up, there's no way in hell you're going in there alone!" he called for her to slow down and allow them to keep up.
There were few things that Kura had expressed desire for that Garrett had ever questioned. This was one of them.
From the moment the sun lit the morning sky, Kura had woken him in a shake, demanding that he get ready as they were heading deep into the woods to some grand expedition. Though half asleep, and incredibly confused, Garrett couldn't quite get an answer as to what it was exactly that they would gain from this. Or maybe she did answer, and he was just too tired to comprehend it. Either way, Garrett was a bit sluggish as he followed behind the princess, still keeping a careful eye on their surroundings as they pressed forward.
It was as though she had never had to fight in her life. No proper training, no proper form, and she fumbled at the very sinkholes and vines that were perfectly placed upon the dirt. It wasn't long for her to find herself being faced off by a giant spider, something Garrett really did not want to have to deal with. "You owe me for this!" he had mentioned to her after ridding the monster for her. Though not much conversation seemed to follow.
Their silence would be accompanied by his loud, drawn out yawns as he scratched his messy head of hair, trying to properly prepare himself for whatever it was that they were doing. It was rare for Kura to actually summon him for an adventure. It was usually just a given that he would follow. The walk was long, the winding woods becoming thicker in the maze. "Are you sure we're going the right way?" he asked quietly. His eyes followed her as she continued to lead, until they were brought to a large stone piller, with steps leading over the thicket and onto a cliffside.
Once they had reached the higher ground, a massive, ancient structure came into view, vines entangled with the cracks of the mossy brick. Though Garrett wasn't exactly one for gods and grandeur, his eyes grew small at the realization that this was perhaps one of the ancient temples spoken in the history of previous heroes.
"Kura, you can't be serious. The Forest Temple?" he asked, hoping maybe they arrived to the wrong location. "Isn't this supposed to be something for the Hero to wander? We're invading a territory no one alive has ever even stepped inside of! We have no idea what could be in there--what if there's nothing even inside--what if--"
Garrett stopped himself as his eyes fixed upon a person standing near the temple entrance. He narrowed his eyes, taking a step forward as his face became visibly red with animosity. "What is he doing here?" his finger flung up, pointing to Malikeith, whom was waiting for them patiently.
"Did you summon him as well? Do you not trust in my skill to protect you alone? Or did he simply invite himself? Why am I the last one to find out about this!?" he stammered each question over each other, until he stopped, looking to Kura and biting his tongue.
He took a deep breath, shifting his weight between his feet as he crossed his arms in defeat. "I'm sorry, your grace. I shouldn't have said that. I'm sure there is purpose behind your decisions and it is wrong of me to question it."
Garrett was born into the Kai Clan of the Sheikah Tribe, a once dwindling race that had suddenly sprouted in growth over the last few decades. In the clan that he was apart of, he was shut out from the rest of the world, dedicating his entire life to training so that he may be one day worthy of serving under the Royal Family. It was considered to be the utmost honor to be chosen, and the children of this small compound spent most of their lives training under the driving force of one day holding such duty. [break][break] He spent most of his youth on this strict regiment, day in, day out of constant training and discipline. He was considered to be a bit of a problematic child, often getting into fights with the other students and disobeying his instructors. And as such, he often was given punishment, which could have been as meager as a detention of sorts, but often resulted in his instructors attempting to break his spirit to build him back up. [break][break] He was troubled from these forfeitures, often recalling his childhood as being hard on his mentality, choosing to block it out and seek some kind of distraction. He battled many of his fears at the hands of these instructors, being stuck in a room with dozens of mini skulltulas and having to face them to escape. [break][break] When he became of age, still quite a young lad in the terms of a Sheikah, despite his problematic behavior, he was the most promising of his students in the art of stealth and close combat. When the time came to announce whom would be chosen for attending to and protecting a royal family member, he was hand selected by the Sheikah Council for such a task, alongside another much older Sheikah. While it was considered to be a solo duty, because of his age, they felt that perhaps he would benefit from a mentor to was far more experienced. [break][break] Garrett, to say the least, felt insulted by this decision, as he felt he was perfectly capable of protecting the next born Hylian on his own. To the surprise of the council, he had turned down the offer and chose to stay within the clan to take care of his mother, whose health was declining rapidly. [break][break] This, however, did not go well with the others. When one is chosen to rise up for their duty, they must accept or face dire consequence, such as exile and forever being shunned as an undesirable. Furthermore, Garrett expressed contempt for the council's next actions, because rather than giving him the choice of service or banishment, they accorded without his knowledge with his "youthful rebellion" in mind, stating that he was still too young to make such a decision for himself. [break][break] So without a proper plan, or even time to pack his bags, the Sheikah Guards had taken him from his home and shipped him off to Hyrule Castle, while he was left to wonder what would become of his mother. When Kura Hyrule was then born, he was forced to watch her without question. [break][break] He didn't even receive a letter when his mother had finally passed of her illness. When he had finally swallowed his pride and accepted his duty, he took pride in trying to outshine Malikeith, to prove that while he was still young, he had as much skill and swagger as the more experienced. [break][break] It wasn't until he had finally been given the approved time to go back into town, to which he found out that his mother had passed months before. There was no explanation given as to why she was no longer responding to his letters, and the council felt that the timing of her death was "unfortunate and inconvenient", as it would deter Garrett from allowing himself to fully devote himself as a retainer. [break][break] With that aside, he knew that dwelling on her death would do nothing but harm himself, and so he did everything he could to distract himself from the bitterness that welled in his throat, and used this drive to further himself in Kura's protection. He watched her grow older, and how she interacted with the other Hylian Children. [break][break] While Malikeith was there solely for her protection, Garrett inevitably developed an emotional connection to her. While he was still considerably older than her, she was the closest in age with whom he often associated with, and the two became rather close. He watched her mature into a fine young lady by the time that her father had passed, and consoled her for months, until Zelda's coronation had been announced. [break][break] When Elinkar Queensguard had been announced as the Hero of Hyrule, he tried his hardest to avoid the controversies that followed. He very well knew the rumors that passed the lips of the gossip mongering Sheikah which lurked about the castle, spying on the heiress and her secret lover, while she was publicly engaged to the Prince of Labrynna. [break][break] So when the time had come for the ceremony to unveil him to the people, the news of the wedding being mandatory or Link's head would be severed gave Garrett nothing but absolute hatred for such a foul man. He wanted nothing more than to speak out against him, but he knew that he may put Kura's life in danger by doing so. And as such, he stayed silent. [break][break] Zelda's death hit him the hardest. Not necessarily because she personally affected him, but seeing the grief of his charge tore him apart. No matter what he would say, or how he would try, nothing could console her, and they were left to wonder what was going to happen to Hyrule now that the to-be-queen was dead. [break][break] Artemis had gone on to help fight alongside the Fellowship so that Link may finish his trials before the alleged darkness would come, but in the short time that he had been away, leaving the two youngest sisters alone, scarlet fell upon the sky and nothing had been the same. [break][break] Monsters, gods, and demons of all kinds had poured out of the sacred realm, tainting the fields around Hyrule as omens lingered. Garrett would not leave Kura's side, knowing that many had gone out to fight in the battle against Seith, a banished god. He would be of no use out there if it meant putting his charge in danger. The chaos was short lived though, unexpected by many. While it seemed to last for aeon, it had truthfully only been several hours. As quickly as the gods came, they dispersed. [break][break] It was then they had learned of the selfless acts of the hero, and what had come after. He was presumably killed and locked away in the sacred realm forevermore, and the Triforce had been shattered. Seith was then banished from this realm, and while grief followed, so did peace. [break][break] Zelda was coronated, but few came to show respect. While the kingdom began to crumble in its own turmoil, Zelda secluded herself from the others and left the fate of the kingdom to hang on the council. Only then, did the pot begin to stir. [break][break] It lasted this way for over a year. Many wondered when the queen would surely take up her duties, while Garrett continued to protect and be there for Kura. Then, one night when none expected it, the unthinkable happened. [break][break] A vigilante group of criminals had managed to break into the castle and take down most of its defense. While Garrett was glued to Kura's side, he himself couldn't fend off the enemies either, as they were subdued rather quickly and brought before their leader - Eleazar. The group was now in Zelda's hands - her decision would give their fate. And being the selfless woman she was, she chose to stand down for the safety of her family. They had but only moments to escape. [break][break] Now, Garrett does nothing but follow Kura. While Malikeith tends to watch from the shadows, Garrett is much more personal and walks beside her as a companion, though if anyone or anything dared to threaten her, he would be there to try and stop it.
+ Night Vision: All Sheikah are able to see in the dark if they possess crimson colored eyes; however, they will glow in the darkness, making Sheikah a target for attacks if the others cannot see in the shadows. [break][break] + Lens of Truth: Sheikah have a natural ability to resist illusionary magic of equal or lower rank of their arcane trait. [break][break] - Weak to Light: Sheikah are weak to light attacks due to their natural ability to thrive with shadow based magic. Due to this, they will take extra damage to light magic. [break][break] SHADOW SHURIKEN: It's a simple technique where two shuriken, like the Fūma Shuriken, are piled one onto another and thrown simultaneously. However, depending on the way it's used, it can prove its absolute efficiency. The trick is to somehow draw the enemy's attention towards the upper shuriken. Then, they have to deal with the path of the lower, unnoticed shuriken. However, if the enemy notices both shuriken, which is done when they duck down, the technique ends up losing most of its efficiency
